About
Ready for the experience of a lifetime? Come on our Kayak Turtle Tour.  Tours operate daily from the south end of Palm Cove and paddle out to Double Island from there.  Once we are at Double Island, it's an incredible experience.  There are mangroves to explore, coral reefs to paddle over and even a cave to explore if the conditions are right. More often than not, the water is crystal clear.  There is an abundance of small rays and turtles swimming  through the water, and it's even possible to see dolphins, dugongs or whales on the tour, but you have to be very lucky. Kayaks, life jackets, juice, water and fruit is provided.

What to expect
  • Departing from Palm Cove, we paddle our way over to the coral reefs that fringe Double Island and Haycock Island (Scouts Hat). The first stop is our turtle spot. This is the place where the green turtle and the hawksbill turtle can be seen basking in the ocean. More often than not we have numerous turtle sightings. This is an exciting part of the trip for all of our customers. From here on, we either travel to the north side of the island or we move in to the south side and explore the mangroves, depending on what the tides are doing and the wind direction. Its not uncommon to see many rays and shovel nosed sharks playing and feeding in the shallows along the tidal part of the beach. If we venture to the north side of the island and with a low tide, we will check out the lime stone cave. When the tide is right, we go right inside the cave. Here we find small stalactites hanging from the roof of the cave. Next stop is the beach for a swim and some fresh fruit and juice. Snorkeling equipment will be provided, so if anyone feels like a snorkel, you are more than welcome to give it a go. After all this, its time to head home. If the northerly wind kicks in, we head back to Palm Cove.

Andrew & Luke were terrific hosts. Even though they have clearly been doing this for years, they were not bored or jaded ... and lets' face it, trying to contain a group of kayaks with people of different abilities and interests, as well as language barriers, would not be easy!
There were plenty of breaks, and at 50 years old we didn't get anywhere near as exhausted as we expected, and we weren't wiped out for the rest of the day either. It was just a lovely leisurely paddle. The views back to the coastline were spectacular and there was plenty of marine life right in front of us.
It was a true privilege to explore Double Island as well.
Everyone should explore their region as if they were a tourist - we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and plan to do this with each visitor we have.
Polarised sunglasses are a must.

I would highly recommend the Kayak Turtle Tour to all holiday planners. Luke the guide for my tour was exceptional!!

I was a complete novice in the use of a Kayak but with Luke's support and guidance it was day day of great fun and has created a great holiday memory.

I am a solo traveler but Luke helped me feel in every way part of the tour group.

The equipment is great and plenty of time given for all our group to get settled for the tour and enjoy the event unfold. This is a value for money experience.

This is a 5 star trip, and should be on each persons "bucket" list.

Can’t thank the boys enough ! Highly recommend

Such a great way to spend the first day of 2022, Tour was fantastic Andrew & Luke were great such a great experience from start to finish. The trip out to double island was easy we had a few stops along the way for turtle spotting and drifting over the reef, after a trip around the island we stopped on the beach for a swim and wander around the island were we saw more turtles, rays and baby black tip reef sharks. A definite if you are In cairns head up to plan cove and take a trip with Andy & Luke!

Loved this tour. Saw lots of turtles popping up for some air near double island. Nice dip in the water and a little walk on the island. On the shoreline we saw half a dozen baby black tip reef sharks, a shovel nose Ray and a bluespotted Ray. Such a beautiful morning. Friendly and informative tour guides! Would definitely go again.

What an awesome morning paddling to the beautiful Double Island. We experienced lots of Turtles & un-spoilt coral which was a real treat. The Tour Guides are both entertaining and knowledgeable which made the morning even more enjoyable. Once at Double Island you get to walk through the, now abandoned, resort which was very strange especially when you hear of the famous residents that once holidayed there. We got to snorkel off the back of the Island and were fortunate to see blue coral & plenty of sea life. We would definitely repeat the experience when we return to Palm Cove.

We had a great time in the kayaks and saw lots of turtles and coral. We're an active family with a very active 9 year, this was a perfect holiday activity for us. Highlighly recommend for families especially if you feel like the kids are starting to run rings around you.

My partner and I did the Kayak Turtle Tour from Palm Cove. It was a big group of around 16 and the team managed us perfectly. The tour was casual and informative, the guides were great and made the experience very enjoyable. We had a sensational morning, I highly recommend the early start to enjoy this wonderful location. Thanks Luke and Andy.

We have done reef tours, rafting, tubing and electric bikes. They were all great activities, but this blew them away. Andy is a fantastic guide and you will see far more than turtles on this tour. On the reef beside double island, we saw amazing coral, more fish species than the barrier reef tours (like swimming through an aquarium) and even a (very small) reef shark. Andy’s knowledge is shared in a very casual, friendly way. Highly recommended.
