We were in Fairbanks for 6 nights to allow opportunity to see the Northern Lights - our main goal. On night 5, we were scheduled for this tour. It was a clear cold night, made colder by blustering winds, but the lights were very active (the only night we got to see them). Jim our guide made sure the heated Yurt would give us good refuge not only for viewing them from within but also guiding us when to go out. Jim was a gracious guide, full of knowledge about the area and the lights, as well as a safe driver on snowy roads.

We took a tour with Bill, and we loved it! He was a fantastic guide, he told us so much about the auroras, was very attentive and over all made the night great. The lodge is very comfortable, stacked with hot drinks and most importantly, it was warm. Bill made a bonfire. Seating around the fire, looking at the immaculate winter Alaska horizon, in the expectation of the magical Aurora, that's an experience I'll never forget.
We had only one night booked with them, but we liked it so much we got another one on our last night in Fairbanks even if that meant sleeping only 2 hours before going to the airport.
The second time we got Joe, what an amazing storyteller! He brought pictures with him and through his words he painted a beautiful picture of what growing up in Alaska was like.
Both nights we got to see the Auroras. I will definitely take a tour with them the next time I'm in Alaska.

Way better than the Chena Hot Springs viewing! The staff took care to remove all possible lights pollution coming from the yurts. The yurts themselves had huge open windows to view the sky from the interior; you needn’t subject yourself to the cold to view the auroras!! Our driver and guide Ed was incredibly knowledgeable about bears and kept up a running stream of facts, which we sometimes peppered with questions and he took them all in stride. We thankfully had clear skies and got to see the auroras as they came in around 1:30AM. We even got to see the rare blue tint of the auroras and learned from Ed that it was nitrogen burning off in our atmosphere. Round trip transportation from our hotel was provided, and Ed gave us a certificate of aurora viewing once we disembarked. Super great experience overall, and would highly recommend!! There are even options to have dinner or go dog sledding, which we didn’t know about but would have totally booked. Don’t hesitate to book with this amazing tour company and their knowledgeable guides!

I was referred to this company by a clerk at my hotel and called them to book my Aurora viewing trip. I planned this for my first night in Alaska. Forty minutes before my pick up time I was called and told it was cancelled because it was snowing. I was sitting in my window and never saw any snow. If it snowed it must had been very little and shouldn't have been enough to cancel the reservation. I spoke to other travelers the next day who were able to see the lights via other companies. The person who called me to cancel said they were full the other nights so I never got to even try to see the lights as other companies were full too. They probably do great tours as they were referred to me but I will never know. I would recommend that they create ways to accommodate people they cancelled on other days as some people, like me, traveled for 12 hours just for the chance to see the lights. I am deeply saddened by what happened. I would recommend anyone else to book two nights with two different companies to decrease the chances of getting canceled over nonexistent snow. They manage many tours and might not realize how important these tours are to some travelers. I would have gone out in the snow as whatever they saw must have ended soon and having any chance to see the lights would have meant the world to me.

Hi Alisa,
We are very sorry that you did not see the Northern Lights. On the night of your tour, it was snowing in Fairbanks and at our viewing location.
Typically people are very thankful that we cancel and give full refunds when the chance to see Northern Lights are close to zero. To have a successful Northern Lights vacation, you should book well in advance of your arrival for at least 3 viewing nights, which give you a 90% chance of success. You booked last minute and expected that our tours are still available on following nights. Sorry this didn't work.
Best regards,

Don't waste your money or time with this company! ALMOST NOTE NO REFUND very disorganized, if your going to pay the price and customer service sucks.
We got the guy who has no experience his 1st trip and kept saying " I don't know, it's my 1st time" ask the company. Very annoying.
He asked to be rated and given a review, stated even how his driving is. Seriously!
We didn't see anything and he had no idea when should we leave. So we took charge
saying its been 3hrs, no info ( again it'shis 1st time), no activity, we are ready to be taken back.

We recommend staying until the tour is over since we can never know when the Northern Lights will come out even on a cloudy day if there is a brake in the clouds you have a chance to see them. Our guides always recommend for customers to call the office when it comes to refunds as they are the guide. All our guides are locals with lots of knowledge about Alaska and do their best to insure you have a good time.

We were picked up at the hotel by Michael at 10PM. He was our driver and tour guide. He was very friendly and helpful. He told us he would stay with us even till 5AM should we decide to wait for the northern lights. The lodge was warm with large viewing windows. We were very lucky to see the aurora shortly after we arrived. It was a scale 5 out of 9. We took many pictures from inside the lodge, not even having to fight against the coldness outside. The big windows were the best things of the night!! We went back hotel at 2AM. Highly recommend the tour!

We were very lucky to see the Northern Lights on the night that we went. We saw it around midnight and stayed for 2 1/2 hours as the lights kept getting more vivid as the night went on. Melissa our guide said that she had 7 people the night before and it didn’t appear so we’re pretty lucky and happy.

Joe are guide was amazing !!! Long time local Alaskan who is super friendly , very knowledgeable, and has tons of great story’s. He kept us entertained all night!!! Would def recommend going to view the Aurora with him at Aurora viewing lodge .
Also was nice to have a local who was used to driving on the Alaska roads(snow and ice). You could tell he knew what he was doing and I could tell the group felt a lot more comfortable knowing he was comfortable on the roads.
Thanks Joe

Joe was our driver/guide for our Northern Lights Lodge viewing tour. He was very knowledgeable and had lots of stories along the way. The yurt where we stayed was nice and warm and had huge windows where we could watch the skies if we get cold from watching outside. And the kids loved the hot chocolate and cookies. Coffee and water were also available. There was a toilet inside as well which was very convenient. We saw a few streaks in the sky in the first couple of hours but nothing more. I almost lost hope and it was indeed a test of patience for us because Lady Aurora didn’t show up ‘til the last hour but when she did, it was definitely worth the wait!
We took this tour in lieu of the Arctic Circle/northern Lights tour we missed due to a delayed flight. I just grabbed the chance because all I ever really wanted was to see the Northern Lights and so thankful that my wish came true.

We took a tour with Joe, who did a wonderful job guiding and narrating our tour. Mother nature was only partially helpful as the lights were visible, but very low key. On the plus side, they offered warm lodges to stay comfortable while we waiting for the lights to appear. They also offered warm drinks and cookies while we waited.

You could probably call and ask ?? It is on private property so only 1st Alaska Tours can go up there. But honestly I believe they would charge the same amount as if they were to pick you up. Which I feel is still very fair.
I know driving can be convenient, also good if your worried about being to close to strangers with Covid. Completely understand if that’s what your thoughts are.
I’d recommend just doing the full experience let them pick you up and drive so you just can sit back and relax.
Hopefully this helps,Enjoy !!!!

We arrived at the lodge at around 2 am from the airport, happened to look out the window at the river, the lights were active north to north east. which would be across the river from the lodge and slightly to the right.

The lights vary much, depending on atmospheric conditions with the cyclical season being more common between Nov and April. It can happen anytime of year but the odds are best during the Aurora season. Even then, on our four day February trip we had one active night, one weak night, and two no-show nights. Best to have an open shutter type camera to capture the moments.
