          Amazing Fairbanks
Our tour guide was Joseph. He is a born and raised true Alaskan. He knew everything and more about Fairbanks! He gave a wonderful tour. We did the 1/2 day tour. Hit the culture center and the museum as well as the pipe line. Joseph was very knowledgeable about the culture and history of Alaska. Even other tour groups stopped to listen to Joseph. When booking with 1st Alaska Tours - ask for Joseph.

          Alaska heritage tour
We did this tour with Muriel. She was very prompt in her timing in picking us up from our hotel and keeping to the schedule. Muriel was a fountain of local knowledge. She added so much to our experience on this tour. All of the places we visited we interesting and Muriel kept us engaged with her knowledge. I would recommend this tour to anyone wanting an experience and knowledge of Alaska.

So glad we took this ARTIC CIRCLE adventure!
Ryan was an amazing tour guide! He had stories to entertain us through the long ride to the Artic Circle. We walked on the Frozen Yukon River - who can say they did that! Saw the Pipeline - and learned really interesting things about it. We stopped at amazing viewpoints for pictures of Boreal Forest, and Tundra. (All of thse fun stops broke up a long, long drive.) We did see the northern lights on the trip home. We were given a nice sandwich, 2 waters, and snacks of chips and candy. Each person got their own food bag, mentioned above, to munch on during the trip. (I think adults will appreciate this trip more than smaller children since it is a long driving trip.) The ride helps you understand why this is called the last frontier because once you leave Fairbanks there is not much between there and the Artic Circle. I am so glad I took this trip...who gets to say they went to the ARTIC CIRCLE?! WORTH IT!!!

          Northern lights viewing.
This was a small group experience with a great guide. Salmon dinner with the greatest view of the aurora borealis. I highly recommend this company.

Under whelming and just not good.
This was expensive and just not a good experience all around. First the bus/van that transported us from Fairbanks to Chena had no shocks absorbers. We literally bounced up out of our seats repeatedly. It was a very loud and rough ride. Once we got to the "resort" it was apparent there is little to no effort to make the place welcoming to guests. The common areas were like downtown bus stations with hard folding chairs, dirty floors and no "decor" except an old stuffed bear in the corner. There were tables full of greenhouse seedlings and junk in the middle of the space. The "viewing room" had an old couch and a few chairs that made it look like an old college apartment and could only accommodate a few people. Even though the tour we booked had the ice museum included in the title, when we got there it was NOT included (read the fine print - it said is was closed for renovations, but it wasn't. And I'm pretty sure we paid the same price for the tour without it.) No matter, we were willing to pay extra for it as we were looking forward to it, but apparently they only allow people in as groups and all the groups were booked. So we were just out of luck. So we had five hours to kill up there until we were to meet back at the van which was excessive considering there was nothing to do but the hotspring and eat. The hotspring was ok, but as in other reviews the facilities were really dirty which takes away from the experience. At one point I stepped on something like someone's clothing or a towel in the water (it was dark) which again highlighted the lack of cleanliness and upkeep. Surprisingly, the best part of the trip was dinner at the restaurant (which I had seen negative reviews for.) The food was good, fresh and plentiful. Service was a bit slow but that worked in our favor because what else were we going to do up there? It seemed understaffed, we only saw three people who seemed to work multiple positions at once (host, server, bar tender, busser.) Those employees deserve awards and raises. They were calm, friendly, and professional and worked like a well oiled machine. In short, unless you want to be stranded for several hours with nothing to do in dirty uncomfortable surroundings just skip this. Or get a car and drive up just for the hotsprings if that's something you're dying to do, but in my opinion they are not really worth the trouble. No lights, that can't be helped. Perhaps that would have taken the stink off the experience if it ended with an amazing natural display. But instead, we just sat in the van for hours waiting for the end of the "tour." (I would have preferred to just cut it short but that's a problem when you're stuck in a group.) All in all a very unpleasant experience. :(

Ryan was the most amazing tour guide. He was knowledgeable and fun. I ❤️ the sledding experience and would do it again. It was exciting and I learned so much about sled dogs.

No Guide, 4 hours of nothing and No Lights
Arriving at Chena Hot Springs at 6:45pm we were told by our driver to be back in the Van by 11:45pm. There was no guide other than 'there is the Activity Center and there is the Restaurant' and 'sign these liability releases'. The next day on a city tour Joseph was our driver and he was a fantastic guide as well. The expected Chena Hot Springs Ice Museum tour was not available (already filled up). We later found that the Ice Museum is separately booked through Chena Hot Springs and not by our tour operator. We were told the restaurant had an hour wait, with some giving up after an hour and half. The restaurant was small and there were a lot of people waiting. From other reviews we didn't miss anything by not waiting for the restaurant. The Hot Springs changing facility had seating for only a few with dozens trying to change at the same time and slippery wet floors. The Hot Springs had beautiful rock and snow around the pool but the bottom was a bit slimy and had hidden rock obstacles to be careful of. After an hour of the Hot Springs there was nothing to do for the remaining four hours. Our driver did stop to look for the Northern Lights on our return to Fairbanks. It was very cold and uncomfortable climbing in and out of the van for hours looking to the sky for the Northern Lights. The lights did not appear for us on this perfectly clear night.

          Dalton Highway to Artic Circle
We have always wanted to go to the Artic Circle. Being in Fairbanks gave us the chance to do so. It was a very beautiful drive and little scary on the icy Dalton Highway. Our driver Randall was very good. On the way back to Fairbanks he stopped several times for us to view the aurora lights.

Dog sledding was so fun! Our musher was Bob and he couldn't have been nicer or more informative. As the mushers were getting the dogs in harness, there was opportunity to pet the dogs, who were all very friendly and wanted our attention. The dinner that was provided after the ride was very good. We did not see the Northern Lights, the sky was not clear enough. Obviously, no one can control the weather. We had already seen them for 2 nights at another location, so we were ok with that. Our shuttle driver, Joe, was very informative, showed us a lot of pictures of moose and lynx that he had taken and he got us there and back safely. A great way to experience Alaska during the winter.

My dearest friend and I did this tour together and we loved it! The tour guide Eliza was a gem. She was so genuine and friendly, very engaging & easy to talk to. She answered everyone's questions with great attention and care. The dogs were just delightful! I've never been hugged (literally they will cuddle you) by so many dogs in such a short time. The sled ride through the property was like being in Narnia, a winter wonderland. The dogs were so excited to pull the sled and be out on a run. It was very cold so layer up, especially your hands and face. The food was delicious and plentiful, and they were accommodating for my vegetarian-ness. It was great to have a warm & comfortable place to hang out while waiting for the lights. When the lights came out we were ecstatic and Eliza showed us the proper settings on our phones/cameras to take great photos. She even took sneaky photo of my and my dear friend from behind, watching the lights. We were bowled over by the sweet gesture, and the photo is fantastic. Thank you to everyone involved; it was a wonderful time. Highly recommend.

What an awesome experience! Dog mushing at night atop the Alaska Pipeline and into the silent, snowy woods, the only sounds were dogs breathing and sled runners on the snow. Tyler is a skilled and informative musher. Dinner back at the yurt, delicious salmon and rice, with snacks and salad prior to the meal. Pecan pie with ice cream for dessert. And friendly dogs to pet!

Ryan, our guide, was great taking us to and from our hotel safely and answering all our questions about life in Alaska. He kept checking to see if the Aurora was visible while we were warm in the yurt but unfortunately the cloud cover allowed us only a very dim view of what would have been, if clear, an awesome display. Still, the entire experience was amazing and was the highlight of our visit to Fairbanks.

This was a fantastic evening. This was during a vacation with my adult son. Had time to meet the dogs and pet them. Once they were hitched I was impressed by how much the dogs wanted to run - they were jumping to try to get going as soon as they were harnessed. Beautiful night as we enjoyed the ride. Was so happy that the Northern Lights put in an appearance. This was our first attempt to see them and they did not disappoint. The salmon dinner was delicious along with the apple pie dessert.

Pretty unique experience. You go sledding, then have dinner and wait for the lights in a homily little cabin with a great view. The tour guide Joe was accommodating and very personable, pleasant, and informative

We had read beforehand that Aurora was a very hit or miss experience as it ultimately comes down to Mother Nature. However, when a visitor is making a trip with nervousness that they may not see what they came for, it is the experience that counts. Even if you do see the lights, experience provided by a professional tour operator just takes it to a different level.

Right from the booking and making the reservation, we had a very nice experience. The lady was very informative, and suggested days when Aurora could be highly probable. The hotel pickup was sharp on time, if not a few minutes early. Our guide Ryan was incredibly knowledgeable about Alaska in general and was just incredible to listen to so many informational tidbits that are quintessential to the Alaskan culture and way of life that always leaves you longing for more..

The dog sled ride was also beyond incredible. We were initially nervous about making this sled ride at night, but our dog mushers were so friendly and informative that we were at ease from the get go, and had such an unforgettable experience. At the end of the ride, when our fingers and toes needed some warmth, we were welcomed with warm drinks and delicious dinner. We were skeptical of the vegetarian dinner options initially, but the hot food prepared by the host were really yummy and absolutely delicious.

Aurora for us showed up only at the end of our tour, towards 1:30 am and it was absolutely mesmerizing.

Would recommend 1st Alaska Tours for an unforgettable experience !

We had the most absolute fun mushing. Matthew was our guide and was so good with the dogs. He clearly loves his job and the dogs. Dinner was delicious. The salmon was cooked perfectly. To top the night off, we saw two moose on the road back. They almoat walked right in front of the van. Our driver Randy expertly avoided collision, and the moose ran back up the bank. Thanks for an unforgettable experience!

Jake did a great job picking us up, educating us on the town and aurora lights, as well as keeping us company during the trip. He was fun a high spirited, conservative. The family at the house (Peggy & Husband) served a great dinner and made us feel at home. Would do this again with them!

We were treated so wonderfully! And the whole experience was 1st class all the way!

Joe picked us up in the shuttle and was a fountain of knowledge about Alaska, moose and any other thing you might want to know.

We loved meeting the Swedish mushers, Sven, Thor and Peggy— such wonderful people! They made the sledding and the meal absolutely wonderful!

We were thankful the lights came out! It was a magical night in every way. Many thanks to Sven, Thor, Peggy and Joe for making this a trip of a lifetime!

It was combination of Chena Hot spring and aurora lights, ice fishing, norther lights dog sledding and dinner. They have awesome crew, hidden place off the grid Aurora Borealis cabins (experienced Aurora lights every night) small group, comfortable equipped with heater, hot drinks and snacks. Before I booked the trip had lots of questions and Rebecca answered all my question in very professional manner, (Thank you Rebecca you are awesome) rest of crew, Ryan, Frank, Randy and Jack I dealt with very courteous and helpful, always pick you up on time from your hotel. (Dinner was excellent) Thank you guys for the great trip.
