      Must Do Sailing Experience
A " must do activity" for any visitor to the Bay of Islands. Captain Terry and his crew were professional but also friendly and relaxed, encouraging and supporting those on board to participate by choice or simply relax and enjoy the experience.

One of the highlights of our trip.
This was one of the highlights of our three week trip to New Zealand. We'd booked a great lunch at the Duke of Marlborough then joined the sunset cruise. It was great to meet the young people working the boat and the Captain and everyone else were knowledgeable and entertaining. We had a really great trip, there was a bit of wind and we helped put the sails up and our eldest climbed the rigging. Would thoroughly recommend it, great way to spend a late afternoon and support a very worthwhile cause.

      Awesome experience
An awesome experience. The crew were great - friendly, knowledgable and professional - and the ship is amazing. We were lucky with the weather (not too calm, not too rough) and all of our group had a great time. Would definitely recommend this.

      Tucker Thompson sailing.
Fantastic day on the water in this beautiful old sailing ship. The crew of 4 were all amazing and you could climb the rigging ( if you wanted to) help with hoisting the sails or just sit back and enjoy!! The ship is used to train kids to sail in the winter season.

      Great trip !
Thank you!! I wanted to go on this trip because it seemed unique - an old fashioned boat late in the day - and it was brilliant! You can get harnessed up and try and climb the rigging, or go right up the front to the end of the boat. Warning - you're not allowed to do this if you've had a glass of wine or a beer on board! You could also help to hoist the sails if you're feeling energetic. You might not see a sunset while on the boat, but you can wait and enjoy it on Russell. Thoroughly recommend this trip - it was really relaxing.

      Living my dream
It was the highlight of our 10 weeks in New Zealand this year. Just 2 hours of bliss. Helping with the sails, coiling the ropes, even climbing high into the rigging from where I made some fantastic photos. Talking to the crew and even the captain, just great. Next time I would like to do a longer trip.

Best family experience in the Bay of Islands!
The greatest experience of our holiday! Children (13, 10 and 8) were fully engaged throughout- hoisting the sails, climbing the rigging and steering the ship. And the adults could relax and have a drink. The crew were amazing and all profits go to charity.

Absolutely loved this cruise! The scenery is amazing, the staff were just lovely and the food and drinks delicious. Great to see the sails out too and folk having the chance to climb the rigging. Highly recommended

The sail was an excellent experience with capable crew; however, the wind was very light and we therefore had difficulty with sail power only. Guests were allowed to climb the masts and swing out into the water. Lunch was good with second servings of the food available. We made a stop and took a zodiac to shore to walk through the forest to view birds.

Kia ora and thank you for your understanding about the wind! Sometimes there's too much, other times hardly any at all! We're glad the rest of the day met expectations mauri ora.

It was a full ship (47 guests I think), but great fun. The seating on the wood deck could be tough on one's behind, but well worth it! Lunch was very good and altho' we were one of the last few to board after our island stop, there was plenty left for us! Wayne was a great captain ... but suggest you sit close to him in order to hear his interesting and informative stories. He selected an island which was not crowded with other ships and we really appreciated that. Wish we had taken the other path on the island though ... those folks saw a kiwi (not normally out during the day, but there's been a bad drought so they forage whenever they can).

Kia ora, thank you for your lovely review and appreciate you taking the trouble to submit it. We apologise for the delay. Yes there were kiwi out in the day last year and unfortunately this year we have another drought so we are concerned for our birdlife again.

Well organised and very friendly, professional sailing cruise on a two masted classic small sailing vessel. Commentary, historical anecdotes and banter were interesting and good humour. Morning tea/coffee and delicious cream and jam scones and the a very tasty lunch. Stopped at truly beautiful and historic bay on one of the islands - the beach is nice sand and the bush behind the bay is full of native birds.

This is a great trip even if you’re not really into boats, or the idea of sailing is a little bit scarey. We had winds up to 30 knots or more (50km/hr) and the Tucker handles it with comfort. Our Skipper, Wayne, installs confidence and humour, while the 2 crew couldn’t do more to make everyone happy. A trip ashore to a gorgeous island was the highlight. Small groups make it especially enjoyable.

I went on this cruise as a single person and enjoyed every minute. Interaction was encouraged but I diidn’t feel I had to . The crew were fantastic - really kind people who clearly love what they do. The best part of the experience is knowing that young people of Northland may one fat benefit from my $ spent on this cruise.

The tall ship is itself impressive. The crew greeted us warmly, gave safety instructions and we set off. Because the number of passengers was low we all helped pull up the sails. Safety harnesses were available to those who wanted to climb for a view from above.

Captain and crew shared Maori history, local history and explained the complicated riggings. We were let off on a small island to hike for an hour and then returned to the ship for a delicious lunch. Laying on the deck looking up at riggings against a glorious blue sky with be a memory I savor for years to come.

You will never regret this adventure and the fabulous crew.

What an amazing day. The team were superbly skilful and happy to share their knowledge, the sails were set as quickly as possible, despite very little wind, we swam, climbed the rigging, helped hoist the sails and were made to feel at home on this beautiful boat.
And then to top it off, the profits are returned into their winter youth training program
    Highly recommend it

We had a great day out. We were encouraged to help with hoisting the sails and were allowed to have a go at steering. Some passengers hooked up and climbed the rigging too. During the morning we had scones with jam and cream and there were plenty. We had a lovely stop at an island and were able to swim or walk to a lookout. When we returned to the ship, a lovely chicken and salad lunch was ready for us.
Ben, our skipper was friendly and informative and obviously very experienced. Andre and Tom were both very patient and passionate about the ship and making sure everyone had a great time. The 2 other crew were also lovely. It is an enjoyable day and we are pleased that in supporting this business we are also supporting the company's programs with young people.

I can’t recommend this trip enough. Many thanks to the captain and crew of the vessel (Marcel, Connor, Tom, and Arihi) for helping to make it such a great experience. You get to be as hands on (or hands off) as you want to be—for me that was very much hands on. I got to help hoist the sails, man the helm, ride the bowsprit, swing from a rope swing into the ocean, and my personal favorite—climb the rigging which gives you the best view on the ship! Only a handful of passengers wanted to climb, so they let me spend quite a bit of time up there which I really appreciate. We experienced all the weather during our day sail—wind, sun, clouds, and a brief but heavy downpour of rain—and while it dampened everyone’s clothes it didn’t dampen peoples’ spirits.

I went on my birthday and I can honestly say it was the best birthday ever. I’d originally been suppose to come in 2020 but the pandemic put a halt to that so I had had 4 years to build the day up in my mind and the reality not only met but exceeded my hopes and expectations.

And thank you for the birthday card; that was an incredibly sweet and unexpected personal touch. 💕

Such a fantastic experience to sail on a 19thC replica boat. Highlights include climbing the rigging, taking the helm and taking a dip in the warm ocean via the rope swing. Crew are fantastic and lunch was delicious. We had a pretty wet and windy day out there and it’s probably one of the best things you can do in those weather conditions. Unforgettable!
