- GlobeTrotting5446430 contributionsNot worthwhileTo be honest you didn't see much more than you can see from the dock. I think this cruise should be cancerlled. The pilot was very good.Written April 22, 2024
- C2437RMrichards0 contributionsNot much to seeThe cruise pilot was great but in reality as far as the short cruise goes, you don’t really see much more than what you can see from the dock, sadly could not recommendWritten April 17, 2024
- 443suzj0 contributionsA Cruise without Any CommentaryDate of Cruise: 31 March 2024 We thoroughly enjoyed the river cruise, taking in the breathtaking views along the river and the Cataract Gorge. However, we were disappointed that our skipper did not give any commentary at all after he welcomed all of us on board. It would have been very informative to know the different places that we cruised by along the way as well as any other interesting information about the Gorge. ☹️😞😔Written March 31, 2024
- Lendanear0 contributionsGood, inexpensive, interesting cruise.Nice cruise. Good value and the cruise captain was knowledgeable about the area. Informative. We were appreciative of the company as they held the cruise for a few minutes because we were a little late due to traffic. On the down side, the cruise was full when we arrived so people had to sit outside. No big deal though.Written March 1, 2024
- gwendelineb20200 contributionsCruising Cataract Gorge CurrentsThe river cruise offered an overall average experience. I opted for this trip to give my partner a break from driving, and while the river cruise wasn't exceptional, it was decent. However, the true standout moments were found at the remarkable Cataract Gorge and the historic old bridge. They were the clear highlights of our trip.Written January 17, 2024
- JoelK3820 contributionsA nice river cruise on the Tamar River and into the Cataract River GorgeWe went on the Lady Launceston and really enjoyed the Captain's talk on the Tamar River and the environs. We also navigated into the Cataract Gorge and it was a beautiful site to see. All in all a very pleasant outing.Written December 23, 2023
- 126trishb0 contributionsLuncheon CruiseWe had a great day on our Luncheon Cruise, lots of good commentary along the way sharing the history of different areas. Lunch was nice & we had a fun day!Written December 16, 2023
- annemareem20230 contributionsWorth it!Great commentary and beautiful views. Well worth the $40 per person. Useful advice on a trip up to the First Basin as well.Written December 3, 2023
- stubbsp080 contributionsA cruise to rememberReally enjoyed this fabulous river cruise of Tamar Valley and Cataract Gorge. The crew were amazing and Captain Callum has a wealth of knowledge about the local area. Service on board was exceptional. Abundance of food and local wine / beer tasting an added treat. Cannot recommend more highly.Written November 8, 2023
- mariamG8194ZY0 contributionsPicturesque.Nice sunny day and the views were fantastic. The river side had some interesting sights like the Peppers Silo Hotel and rock formation was very roughed.Written October 29, 2023
- 523juliad0 contributionsCruising the TamarWe took the 50 minute cruise and loved it. We went early and there was only 6 people of which, we were 4, so it felt like we were on a private tour. Captain was friendly and informative. I would like to come back and do one of the longer tripsWritten October 26, 2023
- Alison S0 contributionsWonderful morning activity while in Launceston. We were greeted by the Skipper and Tour Guide on the Wharf. Down ramp onto Vessel where we were given Safety Instructions. Introduced to Assistant and other members of the Cruise attendees. Free to roam up, down or around the Vessel once it began its course. Exciting up on the bow whilst heading to the Cataract Gorge. Interesting hearing the history of the Bridges across the Gorge and seeing the old Victorian Homes on the hillside adjacent to the river. Most pleasant inside, out of the wind listening to the commentary and seeing all the scenery on either side of the River, when heading downstream. Morning Tea was available. Muffins, cake, tea and coffee. Most pleasant. Later: a wine tasting. Interesting sampling 2 whites, one red and a Lager. Lovely treat to finish the morning. Most worthwhile activity.Written October 18, 2023

We were expecting more from this trip...the commentary was adequate but could have been better. We felt the price was a bit steep also for 50 minutes and it was pretty cold and windy with the blinds rolled up. All in all we were a bit disappointed

We had the pleasure of being aboard the Lady Launceston for our cruise around the waterways of Launceston. Our captain, Huon, was engaging, humorous and knowledgeable and reflected the welcome afforded to us by the woman in the ticket office. The cruise itself was relaxing and scenic with the clear highlight being Cataract Gorge itself. Just a lovely experience.

Had a fabulous time on this cruise. Huon was the very capable captain and guide. It was great to learn some of the history of this area along with the opportunity to cruise into Cataract Gorge with its amazing cliffs and waterway. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed sitting outside relaxing in the sun listening to Huon’s commentary. I thoroughly recommend this tour to those on limited time and budget. You won’t regret it.

Launceston was/is a major port for northern Tasmania. This aspect is highlighted during the cruise. Even so, the urbanization of the rivers (confluence of three rivers!) is worth the look. The Cataract Gorge is a fascinating natural feature. Weather was fine for our cruise but could be a bit more exciting if the weather is somewhat rough.

Nice boat and staff but nothing really special. Not sure what I expected but it was interesting. Not company's fault but we had to wear masks on an open sides boat on a reasonably warm day with high humidity which was not pleasant and took the edge off things.

The Cataract Gorge is described as being the world’s most stunning site. We disagree given there are other comparable sites that are equally stunning. However, in and on its own, it truly is worthwhile doing the excursion boat tour where skipper Brad walks you through the history and provides interesting facts about the Gorge. And doing the trails and the chair lift are also a must for people who can. The scenery and wild life are indeed stunning.

Beautiful view of the Launceston area but unfortunately our tour guide didn't have much to say & we didn't learn anything about the Cataract Gorge. He was too busy chatting with some other guest on board & there was no goodbye or thankyou as he was still chatting to the same guests. We come on these type of river cruises to learn a bit about the area we are visiting & we learnt nothing on this one so very disappointing. Also heard some other guests saying the same thing as we came off.

A pleasant 50 minute trip, downstream for the first 10 minutes or so, then a "U"turn back to the Cataract Gorge and a short trip toward the Cataract itself. Due to the volume of water coming down, our skipper stayed well away so the views weren't much. The commentary was good and well rehearsed. We heard a lot of history, some good anecdotes and overall, we had a pleasant and interesting trip. Was it worth the cost of $28.00 each, yes it was. Thanks Tamar River Cruises.
