    Cradle Mountain
Stop: 11 hours - Admission included
from in this stunning World Heritage listed area. With around 5 hours to spend in the National Park we leave our walking itinerary flexible to suit our guests and the weather conditions on the day. After departing Launceston we enjoy a short stop in Sheffield – The Town of Murals. Sheffield is a small and quirky village where the history of the Cradle Mountain region is depicted in artworks across the buildings throughout the town, this includes the opportunity to see the famous Eason’s Mural. We continue our journey into the mountains and arrive at Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake with around 5 hours of possible walking time before us. We begin with a series of short walks to Rainforest City and Pencil Pine Falls. From here we can choose from the gentle and iconic Dove Lake Circuit an easy 2 hour walk with amazing mountain views. For the more active, we offer the chance to climb to the loftier heights of Marion’s Lookout. This walk is well rewarded with amazing 360 degree views of the surrounding World Heritage wilderness area. Enjoy lunch by a quiet stream, watch the famous and friendly Cradle wombats in their natural habitat, or enjoy the many photographic opportunities that abound. Learn some of the local history as we visit Weindorfer’s Chalet and see the ancient King Billy Pines on Weindorfer’s Forest Walk. Cradle Mountain is the backdrop for a truly memorable and not to be missed Tasmanian experience. On our return to Launceston, we stop and sample some local tasty products at the award-winning Ashgrove Cheese Factory. We return to Launceston around 6.30pm after a huge yet unforgettable Cradle Mountain day.

Great tour with a lot of hiking opportunities
Dec 2020
The best part of this tour is the fact that you have the option of which trails at Cradle Mountain to hike. You don't walk in a group so no need to wait for slow walkers. It's a bit hectic but you can do both the Marions lookout hike and the walk around the lake.

3 tours with Tours Tasmania - thoroughly recommend
I did the Cradle Mountain tour, Launceston to Hobart via Freycinet and Lake St Clair tours. Very well run tours, excellent and informative guides. Very good communication from their office when 1 tour had to be changed twice. Excellent travel option especially for solo travellers and a great way to see Tasmania.

Exhilarating but tough day trip
Mar 2020
I did this tour as part of the 'Big Three' three-day tour from Hobart to Launceston. The day started early picking everyone up from their hotels and heading to the first stop, a place offering coffee and all sort of breakfast/lunch options for eat-in or takeaway. After purchasing our breakfast/lunch for the day, we headed towards Cradle Mountain. The first walk was a short but peaceful walk inside the national park. We then hopped back into the van to drive deeper into the national park and closer to Cradle Mountain. We parked by Dove Lake where the guide explained the various options for trails before we all parted ways. A girl I had met on the bus and myself opted for the hike up to Marion's Lookout together. It was a difficult upward climb, especially since we were moving at a fairly quick pace. It took us approximately an hour to reach the top, but once we got up there the views were spectacular. Because we had made such good time, we were able to relax and have lunch without being rushed. Once finished, we headed down towards Dove Lake. The climb down was steeper than expected, but they have a chain rope most of the way you can hold onto. I was grateful for this when my foot slipped a couple of times on the loose stone. We were good on time so we were also able to do the walk around Dove Lake (counter-clockwise from the parking lot). There were a couple of spots with an uphill climb, but this was much easier than the hike up to Marion's lookout. Once we all met back at the van, we drove to another area of the park for a brief chance to roam around and try to spot wombats. Last stop on the tour was to the Ashgrove Cheese Factory to sample cheeses and purchase goodies or ice cream. Overall, it was a long and tiring day, but it was so exhilarating and worth the effort. The guide was also extremely informed and experienced, making the day more enjoyable and run smoothly.

Cradle Mountain
I can't speak highly enough about the two days we spent in Cradle Mountain.
Spectacular scenery, wildlife and walking trails, which are created so that there is no impact on the environment.
Firstly you decide which level of walker you are and then choose what walks you would like to take from a map. Buses take you to a number of different walking points. Everything is super well organised.
Wear layers of clothing. The weather can change quickly, hot, windy, rainy, cold then hot again!
We loved it!

Our guide was extremely knowledgeable of the indigenous and modern history of the region. He kept us on a tight schedule which was great so we could maximize the day. He provided additional clothing if we needed it and recommend the trails best suited for our individual needs.

Nov 2019 • Friends
Not that great as our guide Graeme drove like a maniac and didn’t get any guided walks with him. We were under the impression we would have a guided walk with the guide but didn’t happen.
Very disappointed as travelled long time to get there and plus weather not in our favour making it miserable especially when we were not told we could have a got a free shuttle back to visitor centre.
Might have been better with different guide but not Graeme who was not overly friendly and spoke AT us not to us and barely had time at any stop points like the town Sheffield. Gave us 10 min and moved us on driving so fast and honking at the cars if they were not going fast enough for Graeme .
Disappointing day on the whole

Thanks for letting us know about your experience to Cradle Mountain. I am sorry to hear that your experience involved impatient driving and poor service on the day.  It is very unusual to hear that you had a poor experience with our Tour Guide and we will discuss these issues directly with the guide for further clarification.    There is a range of introductory walks when we arrive at Cradle Mountain all of which should be fully guided for you, the conditions on the day can also help to decide which walks the group undertakes.  When we embark on our longer walking options for the day, to either Marion's Lookout, a more difficult hike or the Dove Lake circuit, an easier hike - if the group splits across these walks - generally the guide will go with the group that is considered most in need of the Tour Guide's expertise at the time.  Our guides are there to help our guests who wish to challenge themselves and achieve a highlight hike for their visit to Cradle Mountain.  This sometimes means that the walkers doing the easier Dove Lake circuit, may do the majority of this walk on their own, while the guide assists the participants heading to Marion's Lookout.  The guide is often running (not hiking) between groups of people at Cradle Mountain ensuring all is well.   It is unfortunate to hear that you chose not to walk at all on either of these hikes and returned to the Visitor Centre instead.  We had a number of walkers do the Marion's Lookout hike on your tour day, and a couple of hikers do both Marion's Lookout and also the Dove Lake Circuit, despite the weather being wet.  Our guests who were under-prepared for the day out had free use of our rain jackets, beanies and gloves that we provide to help get everyone out on the tracks.

A great way to see Cradle Mountain from Launceston
Oct 2019
I was pleased to discover this tour was available, as Cradle Mountain is a long way west of Launceston, but it's worth the long drive (especially if someone else is doing the driving). The stop at Sheffield is definitely worth it, the painted murals impressive. We had 4 hours at the National Park. I didn't feel like the climb to the lookout on Mt Marion, so did the lake walk, but I did manage to get up to Wombat Peak overlooking Wombat Pool and Lake Lilla. The weather was unusually good, warm and sunny.
The driver/guide Graeme deserves a special mention. Not only was he tremendously chatty and full of information about all the places we were seeing, he also personally helped me out with a difficult situation. When I woke up the morning of the tour, I discovered I had been robbed overnight at the hostel, and Graeme slipped me some money to buy food for lunch. Immensely grateful.

Day Trip
Jun 2019
While in Launceston we decided to take a day trip to Cradle Mountain which included a stop at the bakery in Elizabeth and the murals in Sheffield. It was great to see the murals, the artists are very talented. We had light snowfall when we got to the Rangers Station so didn't get to do the walk near there. We headed to Dove Lake and as it was still snowing only 4 of the group decided to do the 6km walk around the lake, the rest of us opted to stay with the tour guide and did the Glacier Rock and Boat shed walk instead. As we had time while waiting for the others Tony took us to Waldheim Chalet where we got an insight into the Cradle Mountain area and the history of the Chalet. Even though it was snowing on and off we had a wonderful time and for me the snow made it even more wonderful. We will definitely go back and do the Dove Lake walk.
Shout out to Tony our driver and guide who was great.

Great hiking & sightseeing tour
Apr 2019 • Solo
I was there in April and had Rod as our guide for the day. He was friendly, helpful and patient.
Unfortunately for us that day, the weather was cloudy and gray with slight drizzle. Rod still tried to make the day as enjoyable as possible.
We did a stop in Sheffield before going to Cradle Mountains. We did a nice hike around the lake. No mountain view that day :(
On the way back we stopped by a cheese factory to sample some cheese. I bought a few home.
All in all, I enjoyed the day. Met very nice people. And I know I will need to be back to see the Cradle Mountains again!
