If you’ve not got the time, the energy or the interest in a three day hike carrying all your gear, this is the perfect way to experience a superb section of the Kepler Track.
The water taxi leaves from the centre of town, then drops you right in the middle of a superb pierce of the Kepler Track with ferns, forest and streams, just metres back from the lake.
You can then do a short walk and catch another boat back an hour later, or, walk to the Control Gates (about 90 minutes) and then either walk back to town or organise a bus or taxi, or keep walking, as we did, on to Rainbow Reach where a bus will collect you.
The section to the Control Gates is flat and wide and anyone can walk it, and even the section beyond here to Rainbow Reach has minimal elevation.
We’ve done this twice now and it’s a cheap, and wonderful day out.

Thanks for your review Stephen, good ideas there for how to day walk the Kepler Track. There are quite a few options and taking the Kepler Water Taxi means you don't have to walk back the way you came. Thanks again and see you soon!

Friendly professional service and would highly recommend them to anyone. We used them to take the family (two young children) across lake Te Anau to walk up to Luxmore Hut on the Kepler Track fro the night. They have a purpose built boat with experienced skippers and they drop you off and pick you up from the beach, your feet wont even get wet!

We had a great experience with Fiordland Outdoor Co. We booked the Kepler water taxi with them, to save a bit of hiking time for our kids. It worked out great. They even delivered our tent to us two days later, so that we could camp at Brod Bay after two nights at Luxmore alpine hut, then picked us up from Brod Bay the following morning. Doing it this way, we didn't have to carry our tent to the hut and back down.

The water taxi website tells you that you don’t need to book. The board in the shore tells you that there are services at 8:30 and 9:30 am. On Sunday 8 people arrived to make use of the taxi and waited in vain. We eventually discovered that the service had been cancelled. So why not put a notice up to say this?

Due to the fast-moving situation with Covid 19 we were unable to continue operating our service from Sunday. We are sorry you were affected by this decision however it was made to keep our people safe and we do not apologise for this. We are not useless, we are an excellent business with excellent service but now with no work for many months. I am sure whoever is reading this will appreciate the situation and make their own mind up for future bookings.

Fiordland Outdoors were a great help planning our Kepler Great Walk. It was really good to be able to talk directly with someone who had the knowledge to answer my questions. They helped coordinate the whole trip, from water taxi, pack flight, to the shuttle out. Tracy was good with communication - quick with responses. And very reassuring when, due to floods altering the time frames, we needed a bit of flexibility with the plans. Being able to coordinate all the details with one company really helped save time with all the details in planning the trip. Thank you Fiordland Outdoors!

Had a great experience taking the Kepler water taxi to start our 4 day Kepler tramp. The water taxi was on time and the staff member was super friendly. Would recommend this to anyway day walking or doing the full Kepler track!

Brilliant service for a return day walk to Mt Luxmore. Very friendly guide, safe boat trip and timely service. Well done. We booked online the night prior. Easy (although website could be improved for booking on return trip from Brod Bay.

Fiordland Outdoors were brilliant to deal with on our recent adventure. We caught their water taxi before heading up to Luxmore Hut on the Kepler track. Very professional but still friendly which helped my daughters feel safe on our trip across the lake. Cheers guys!
