Overview
Step into a powerful Fiordland Jet boat and cruise down the mighty Waiau River on this roughly two-hour adventure into the heart of Fiordland National Park. With no windows and no ceilings on the jet boat, you’ll hear the wind rush past you as you head down river to Lake Manapouri. Disembark and explore the Park’s ancient forest, then return in your jet boat, doing stunts along the way that you could never do in a car or tour bus.
What to Expect

Begin your adventure at our office, centrally located on Lake Front Drive in Te Anau. Take a load off and have a seat at one of our picnic tables while you use our free WiFi and charging station to make sure all your devices are good to go. Once everyone is all checked-in and ready to go, hop on our spacious and air-conditioned bus for a short ride down to Queen's Reach boat launch on the Waiau River.

At Queen's Reach, your Fiordland Jet Guide will get you all geared up with spray jackets, life vests, and warm hats (if needed). Your guide will then load you into the boat before putting it into the water, so you won't have to worry about getting your feet wet.

Your journey begins with an exhilarating jet boat ride down the picturesque Waiau river. The Waiau river is lined by ancient beech tree forest and is the Anduin River; the great river of Middle Earth! Featured in the opening scene from The Lord of the Rings! Get the inside-story on The Lord of the Rings filming locations, and the crazy logistics involved in filming.

Experience the thrill and excitement as you cruise down the powerful, surging, Waiau River. Stop in some quiet and tranquil spots, to soak up the amazing surrounds, spot a few trout, and learn about the unique environment and fascinating history.

Suddenly, find yourself out on the breath-taking Lake Manapouri. Surrounded by mountains that have been carved by snow and ice over centuries, experience a sense of wonderment as you gaze at the magnificent mountains and sit in awe of their sheer beauty.

Get a taste of adventure as you explore the ancient surrounds with your Fiordland Jet guide. Learn about the unique flora and fauna of the area. Step back in time as you experience prehistoric crown ferns and ancient, native beech forest, unchanged for 80 million years! Learn about indigenous Māori culture and the early pioneers of European history in New Zealand.

At the conclusion of your jet boat trip, your guide will return you by bus to our offices in the heart of Te Anau. There are bathrooms available at our office and also a car park.

Allow 2 hours to experience this thrilling and informative jet boat trip!

Terrific fun!

We had a great morning on the jet boat driven by Becky, don’t let her youth put you off, she certainly knows how to handle that boat. Great fun twisting and turning down the river with plenty of 360 turns to keep you on your...More

Exciting, action packed activity.

Great two hour spin on the river and lake in a stunning location. Rebecca was a brilliant tour guide and jet boat ‘pilot’. She made sure everyone was cool with the spins. It’s a family run and operated business and you’re made to feel welcome.

Fiordland jet boat

We were looking for something to do on short notice and the company took care of us. Turned out we were the only two people going out, but they treated us like we owned the boat.
