Travel along the spectacular Milford Road on a full-day Milford Sound tour from Te Anau. Have the chance to see native wildlife like the endangered kea (an alpine parrot), seals, dolphins, and the Fiordland crested penguin. Visit Gunns Camp, take short walks to beautiful sights including the Chasm and Marian Cascade, and take a 2-hour sightseeing cruise on the Milford Sound. Includes entrance fees, boat cruise with live commentary, morning tea, and hotel pickup and drop-off.

What to Expect

Your tour begins with morning pickup in Te Anau or Manapour and a scenic drive to Milford Sound.

Stop first at Te Anau Downs and view the sheltered harbor, Bluegum Bay, which sits opposite the Middle Fiord, the starting point for the Milford Track. Then, take in views of the Earl and Livingston Mountains at Eglinton Valley.

Take a short stroll along a boardwalk at Mirror Lakes to see beech forest and wetland pools. The 45th South Parallel marks the halfway point between the equator and the South Pole.

Stop next at Cascade Creek, then the Hollyford Lookout, which overlooks the Hollyford Valley and Darren Mountains. Have the option to do the 20-minute return walk to Marian Cascade, which tumbles from Lake Marian before pulling into Gunn’s Camp for morning tea, followed by the historic museum and gift shop.

Get photo ops at Fall’s Creek and Monkey Creek, and if time allows, a 5-minute walk leads to a point with views of the Gertrude Valley. Look for kea sightings at the east portal of the 4,166 foot (1,270 meter) long Homer Tunnel and pass through the scenic Cleddau Valley. During the last part of the journey to Milford Sound, take a 10-minute walk to The Chasm, rock formations that make up a 72 foot (22 meter) deep and narrow ravine cut by the Cleddau River.

Snap photos of Mt Tutoko, the highest mountain in Fiordland, Tutoko Bridge, and Mt Tutoko as a backdrop. Then arrive at the departure point for your cruise. Enjoy a 2-hour cruise on the Milford Sound, keeping an eye out for dolphins, seals, and the Fiordland crested penguin.

Your tour ends with return to your accommodation after 10 hours.

Simply Excellent

We went out with Fiordland Tours based on the excellent reviews here on Tripadvisor, and were glad that we did. You're in a relatively small group. Because of the self-selection of who chooses this tour company, we liked everyone in our group. The van was...More

We had a packed day with lots of stops at scenic places en route to Milford Sound. The cruise was wonderful and our driver and guide, Jonathan, was keen that we should visit the places on the return journey that we had run out of...More

It doesn't get any better

We took the early tour with 8:00AM pickup. I recommend that time. Fiordland Tours operates small vans - 16 passenger rather than the big 40-45 person buses you see with other companies. Still big windows for the views, so no downside there. Contributes to better...More

Great way to see Milford Sound

I like doing the driving myself, but this time it was a great decision to hand the driving off to Ray. Ray made the trip to Milford Sound so much more enjoyable. My wife and I were picked up in a new, very comfortable bus...More

I think this tour runs most days of the year. Just go ahead and book it on their website. My wife and I did and it's a small bus tour (so not the crowded big bus) and was excellent value for money with great and attentive... More
