About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- josephw9560 contributionsSeeing the Sound with SoapComing from the States, the Sound was a place we had read about, but you need to experience the grandeur in person. Our experience was heightened by our guide Soap putting everything in the context of Maori culture, which is something we wanted to get out of our NZ trip. He really made it fun for our whanau on the bus. Loved the Maori music! We even hit the green light at the tunnel on the way back boosting our spirits for the longish ride back.Written October 11, 2024
- kateaP854VA0 contributionsBeautiful experienceThe tour was so good and informative!! Our tour guide was so funny and went into detail about the wild life, nature and near by activities we could do during our stay in NZ. We had a few little stops and encouraged to take a lot of photos (especially of rainbows), the lunch wasn’t your average low budget lunch- it was made with love and very filling, we really enjoyed the brownies and chocolate snacks provided! Thank you so much from Kate and Cam!! We had the best time even with the rain and losing a hat along the way 😅Written October 11, 2024
- T2950KZjillr0 contributionsAppreciated the professionalism of Cheeky Kiwi Tours. We didn't get to do our tour with Cheeky Kiwi Tours because the road to Milgord Sound was closed because of snow. I am doing this review because we received our refund immediately and we very much appreciated the professionalism of this Tour Company.Written October 11, 2024

Roadtrip wasnt boring as it was scenic the whole time. It was spring season but we were lucky that snow hasnt fully melted yet. - N3268CXjohnw0 contributionsMagnificent Milford Sound! My husband and I had such a memorable trip to Milford Sound with Lynette. She’s such an asset to the Cheeky Kiwi team! We found her to be so knowledgeable throughout the whole trip to Milford sound and back. The lunches provided were excellent and we really enjoyed the tour with the smaller group! We’d definitely recommend this trip to anyone thinking of making the journey to Milford Sound!Written October 7, 2024
- timo9710 contributionsBest tour guide in NZ!Just like every bathroom, every Cheeky Kiwi tour needs Soap! He was amazing. We were lucky enough to have Soap as our guide on two Cheeky Kiwi tours and could not have been happier. Not only did he go out of his way to drop us closer to our accommodation, but he also ensured everyone on the trip had the best experience possible throughout the entire day. We lucked out and had perfect weather for Milford Sound, along with all of the awesome stops Soap lined up for us that kept us away from coaches filled with tourists. Could not recommend this company and its choice of guides higher!Written October 7, 2024
- aliceusa110 contributionsEnjoyable day-long adventure, despite chilly, rainy weatherRenee was an amazing tour guide! She has so much knowledge about stops and areas of interest along the way and of our ultimate destination. We ended up with rain all day (so optional helicopter and sea plane activities were cancelled), and Renee kept spirits high and made sure we still had a memorable experience. Would definitely book another experience with the company and/or Renee.Written October 7, 2024
- travellingkiwiLondon0 contributionsMilford Sound MagicAbsolutely great trip! The long journey was made enjoyable by our friendly, knowledgeable tour guide's easy going manner, enjoyable commentary and consideration of the guests. We enjoyed all the varied stops on the way (stunning!) and didn't feel rushed. The boat cruise was amazing and I am glad we chose this tour provider as we loved the Cruise Milford boat - the size and accessibility of the craft meant we got an outstanding viewing experience. The captain's commentary and relaxed manner really made the trip. Milford Sound was breathtaking - towering cliffs, uncountable number of waterfalls, we saw seals, penguins and even a dolphin. Would highly recommend!Written October 7, 2024
- joro610 contributionsWonderful day trip to Milford Sound with Cheeky Kiwi TravelWe have had the best day visiting Milford Sound with Cheeky Kiwi Travel! Our driver and guide Ted was wonderful!!! Fantastic storytelling and commentary, he made the day something to remember! The drive out to Milford sound was intercepted with plenty of stops for photo opportunities. After arriving at the dock at Milford, the whole process was streamlined. Ted gave us our boarding passes, we boarded our boat and were off! Such a comfortable craft with fantastic crew. Captain Brad gave great commentary along the way. We saw penguins, seals and a dolphin! So many waterfalls!! The drive back to our accommodation was just as streamlined as the trip out. We would highly recommend Cheeky Kiwis for any tour. Very professional, very personal (with a small group tour) and so much fun!!Written October 7, 2024

One of the best things I’ve ever done!! The tour guide Denny was a wonderful young woman who drove 16 of us from Queenstown to Mt Cook Aoraki and back, stopping at various locations so we could enjoy picture taking. This included rest stops and informative dialogue. The ride was long but beautiful! The actual flying experience was amazing and one of the best things I’ve ever done! The plane ride was smooth and landing on the Franz Josef glacier was exciting! We had ample time on the glacier to experience it and take photos. The return trip on the helicopter was my favorite thing! Our pilot got us up close to the mountains and the views were unforgettable!! He landed us back to earth like we were a butterfly touching down!! Great great experience!!!

We had an incredible time exploring Mt. Cook. Georgia, our trip guide, was consistently helpful and full of valuable insights. Traveling by van was smooth sailing, with Georgia's driving skills leaving us with no concerns. The scenery along the drive was absolutely stunning, and the helicopter ride to the mountain's peak took our breath away. This trip is undoubtedly worth every moment.

5/5 was a great tour with a very informative and funny guide. Daniel made us feel welcome and ensured we knew all about the tour and the days events. He made sure we experienced everything and went the extra mile teaching us about New Zealand’s environment, Māori legends and recommendations of places to eat and have fun. Highly recommend the tour

Awesome day! The guides were extremely kind and attentive to us. Heli hiking on the Tasman Glacier was a magnificent experience! The wonderful guide... take the helicopter and see Mount Cook, the glacier and the valley from above: splendid! Not to mention the beauty of the glacier and the place, it’s wow!!!! How magnificent our planet is!
We were very lucky because the weather was great despite the winds which could have hampered the helicopter flight and therefore shortened the hiking time on the glacier. This was not the case and we were able to enjoy a beautiful hike.
Explanations on Queenstown, Mount Cook, the glacier, etc. throughout and we were able to benefit from the sharing of the experiences of the mountaineering guides. It was truly a very rich day. I really recommend this activity and this service provider for their kindness and seriousness. Good communication with precise and clear explanations. No surprises, everything is said! If the weather is not good, if you are late for your appointment...

Going up in the helicopter, and landing in the snow, amazing! The guides knew a lot and were very friendly and entertaining. The trip was long on the road, but our guides had a lot of interesting information about geology, movies that were filmed in the area, and fun facts as well. Definitely worth it. There is also the opportunity to do a short walk around Aoraki/Mt Cook, or you can explore the Village. The guides made it their mission to make sure everyone got what they wanted out of the trip. Thank Dan and Kreig!

Overall an exceptional tour. Stops were great. Food options for purchase were really nice. Bus was comfy. Only downside was the long wait for the helicopter and plane ride. Jeff was a very informative and friendly driver who dropped us off at our accommodation at the end of a very long but enjoyable day.

So first of all, the team is amazing. John made sure everyone had all the facts in a timely manner and more, he did his best to make the trip lively and interesting. The other member I interacted with was very sweet. The tour in itself was nice, we saw beautiful things and learned a lot.
However, the organization, I was not satisfied with. I booked the helicopter flight and received an email only the day before warning about the weather and possible cancellation. It was of course canceled due to bad weather but we only had the confirmation on the day itself at 10 am. I also was not the only one in this situation and all of us had the same disappointing experience of going on a trip we wouldn’t have booked without the helicopter option and not given the option to back down earlier.
Now, I understand the team did their very best and have no control over the weather, nor the flight company decisions. It doesn’t make the experience any better.
