Historic winery and cheesery within walking distance to the Kawarau River and the famous bungee jumping Kawarau Bridge.
I highly recommend this historic winery that started the production of wine in this region. They also make their own cheeses. What a perfect combination. Their driver, Jason, picked me up and transported me back to the pickup spot in Queenstown afterwards. He was very interesting to converse with and a wealth of knowledge about the area and various activities. Maddy took excellent care of me for the wine and cheese tour thoroughly explaining everything and answering all of my questions inside of the cave where the wine is stored which is very interesting and educational. Jason gave me a ride to the Kawarau bridge so I could walk over this historic piece of history and watch someone bungee jump off of it. He thoroughly explained the best way for me to walk back to the winery enjoying the gorgeous views of the Kawarau River along the way. I tried their fish tiradito with more Pinot Noir after my tour while sitting next to the fireplace relaxing. Outstanding! I highly recommend visiting this winery and cheesery when in Queenstown. You won’t be disappointed.

      Ian is a vibe
This was my second visit to Gibbston Valley Wines, and it didn’t disappoint. We began with a tasty lunch in a private room with colleagues, then enjoyed an exceptional wine tour led by the most energetic guide, Ian. His boundless energy, deep knowledge of wine, and genuine passion made the experience truly memorable.

Great winery tour with lovely Gibbston Valley Winery team!!!
We had a great day - spending time at the cheese deli, warming by the fire on a cold foggy day, and a great wine tour/tasting with Sally who was full of great info and ready to answer heaps of novice questions! We really enjoyed the wine cave tour topped off by a lovely lunch where we were looked after by Jolie! Can’t forget about George who was our coach driver who was kind and thoughtful! We definitely recommend visiting this winery:) and will be back!

Great place. Well worth the visit.
Very interesting story behind the wine cave. We did the tour that included the winery and the cave. Tour guide was knowledgeable and very friendly. Tour was well worth the price. We had lunch in the restaurant afterwards which was awesome. Great food, good wine, good atmosphere. Free wifi was helpful too as mobile coverage at Gibbston is not amazing.

      A wonderful afternoon at Gibbston
The wine and cheese cave tour was excellent! Since it was a weekday in winter, I was the only person signed up for this particular tour on the day I went. Julie was my guide, and she helped me have an incredible experience. She explained the wines, cheeses, and even the history behind the winery and the cave quite well. Julie was so warm and welcoming--an excellent guide and a knowledgeable source on wine. As a bonus, Julie did some of the tour for me in French (my request) so that I could practice my French speaking and listening. :) I highly recommend the Gibbston Valley tours--the wine is amazing, the location is beautiful, and the guides are fantastic!

      Cave Wine Tasting
Wow! What a fabulous experience which has taken my own cheeseboard and wine pairing to new heights. Instead of just a normal wine tasting, this is a wine tasting paired with the correct cheeses. For the hostess with the mostest this is the tour to give you knowledge and understanding of your cheeseboard and wines for your guests. All done in the cave where the wines are maturing. Loved it!

Great experience at Gibbston Valley Winery.
Our group of 45 visited Gibbston Valley Winery on a cold, rainy Monday morning, and despite the weather, we had a really great experience. The highlight of our visit was the fascinating wine cave tour. Our knowledgeable guides shared insightful information about the winemaking process, which truly enhanced our appreciation for the wines we tasted. Following the tour, we warmed up at the cellar door, where we were greeted by a welcoming open fireplace. The cozy ambiance was perfect for enjoying the excellent selection of wines. Each wine we sampled was a testament to the quality and craftsmanship of Gibbston Valley Winery. For large groups, Gibbston Valley Winery is an ideal destination. The staff managed our group seamlessly, ensuring everyone had a fantastic time. We highly recommend Gibbston Valley Winery for its exceptional tours, warm hospitality, and superb wines.

      The Cave was stunning!
We went here with Angus on a wine tour and had the most wonderful time, the history was really interesting and the cave was quite evocative and almost surreal, we got some lovely pictures in there of us all, and we will treasure them. This was a wonderful experience, and the wines tasted were lovely, thank you.

Amazing views on a fun bike ride through cracking wineland!
My friend and I spent a half day on e-bikes hired from Gibbston Valley winery, touring from Arrowtown to the winery and on to the end of the valley on great paths with amazing scenery, -stopping at wineries along the way. It is incredibly well set up, we had lunch at Gibbston valley winery and included their cave tour which was an interesting experience too. The team at Gibbston Valley were amazing, particularly Jason, who went above and beyond to make sure our day on the bike was exceptional!

Touristy, over hyped winery with mediocre wines
We visited this very touristy winery as part of a tour. The weather was a bit dicey so we missed the vineyards tour and visited the cave instead. While the guide was interesting, the wines are mediocre at best. The whole experience seemed geared to large tour groups. Much too commercial for my tastes. Next time we will visit other smaller, family owned wineries.

I was very disappointed about the winery tour we had. I took my friends there so that they can understand little more the winemaking world and considering I worked in wineries myself I could see and hear the guide was not educated enough to answer the questions of the visitors. The "vineyard tour" meant we stand next to one row by the asfalt road, not even in between vines, the guide had to even admit she did not know some answers others had, tour of winery meant one stop with very very brief description of the process. The cave was nice, but again, we didn't get much information and I would say even wrong information.
Considering the tour costs $35 this is a huge trap for tourists and one will not learn anything from such visit. Much better experience with much more knowledge in any winery in Cromwell or Bannockburn! I was expecting more.

We booked a Wine and Cheese Tasting Tour and we were disappointed when the tour was cut short due to an event being booked at the same time. However, Zach was an amazing tour guide and went above and beyond to ensure we were happy and satisfied with our experience. He took us back into the Wine Cave after the event had finished and gave us the background of the place and the wines. We left with amazing memories and we’d be happy to return again with Zach as our tour guide!! He was extremely knowledgable and enthusiastic and it was an awesome experience.

We had the wine and cheese tasting tour it was great. We learned so much about the interaction of cheese and wine of different varieties. It took us out of our usual comfort zone and has helped develop a much broader appreciation for both wines and cheeses. Handy given our wine club membership at Gibson's from last year.

We had a wonderful tour guide Yolanda! For two people that aren’t even wine drinkers I was so interested to hear about the different processes and precision of wine making. We got to try 6 different wines, and each tester was a generous amount which was awesome! Yolanda was so kind, open, and honestly made the experience wonderful because she was so funny and personable. It felt like she wanted us to have a great time, she even spent an extra 30 minutes doing the tour with us to answer questions and let us take our time trying out the wine. Such a fun afternoon.

Also, we rented bikes from the winery which rounded off the afternoon so well as the Kawarau bungy jumping bridge was only a 45-min return trip!! Highly recommend this.

Also, the cheese platters at the restaurant are delicious!!

We stayed at the Gibbston Valley Lodge & Spa & decided to do a wine tour that included the caves. So worth it, Lucy was our guide & was so knowledgeable & we even got to try a couple of other wines on top of the 4 that were included. We have visited wine caves in Napa Valley & although Gibbston wine cave is smaller the history & story behind the winemaker & the location puts this on the list of wine caves to visit

I had the pleasure of being with a group of American post graduate students from Virginia visiting the Gibbston Valley Winery as part of their stay here in Queenstown. We spent about 4 hours there, having lunch, listening to the professional and passionate Chris Keys talk about wine making and then touring the cave with Jake. The whole experience was so special and the way staff managed the visitor experience was benchmark "stuff." Thanks to all the wait staff as well as our guides Jake and Chris...a special day at a special place.

$25 wine tasting was a waste of time. Our group of six felt like we were rushed in that out of the place. The server seemed put out to describe the wines when asked. Worst of all, the tasting fee could not be applied to a wine purchase.

Fascinating tour in a stunning location. Jolie a superb hostess & guide, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and clear to listen to and a world of information on a wide variety of subjects & every aspect of the wine & winery of course.
Stayed-on for lunch after the tour & tasting on recommendation from tourists we got talking to in town and certainly weren't disappointed. Service, presentation (plating) and flavors world-class. Will certainly recommend & be coming back.

We booked a wine tasting here, it was a small group with four people, we could spend quality time asking questions and had the chance to slowly tased wine. The lady whose name is Lee was in lead of the wine tour, she is very nice and gave us very good recommendations according to my favourite “Merlot”. Unfortunately central Otago doesn’t have to heat to make Merlot, we tried the China Terrace which also satisfied us.

This would be the busiest winery we visited while on a tour so it felt slightly less personal and that is the only reason I scored it 4 out of 5. Everything else is excellent. They have a true asset in Bindy as she was extremely energetic, knowledgeable, personable and great fun as well as providing great advice to match our palettes. The wine cave is awesome and the history/story that goes with it shows a real can do attitude to succeed. The cheese shop was good with a good variety. We had time for one extra tasting from the advice of Bindy that matched perfectly to my tastes so it was a must to leave with 2 bottles of the China terrace pinot noir. I would definitely come back again and probably stay for a meal as well.
