As far as a hop on hop off wine tour goes, this one is by far one of the best experiences I've ever had – and I have been the passenger in no less than 3 bus based wine tours in my life.

The tour guides attitude was on point, their knowledge was doctorate level, and their tasting recommendations weren't just centred around the most expensive cellar doors. When I go back to Queenstown, you can bet your ass I'll be getting back on the hop on hop off wine tours. And my ability to recollect the ride back to town will be just as foggy as it was this time.

Loved it, change nothing.

Friends
We joined hop on hop off wine tours for their afternoon tour and had a wonderful time. Our driver Lore was simply amazing and was very knowledgeable about the different locations and helped us choose where to stop. We did only have time for three stops so if you want to try more places I would definitely recommend the full day tour.

Just booked my 4th trip on the Hop On Hop Off wine tour upcoming for July with 4 of my friends, at $79.50pp for a full day it's a awesome price.

The ease of jumping on and off wherever you like, means you're free to choose where you want to go, and everytime you do another tour you can change where you get off. Not to mention, it's such a social way to do a wine tour, by the end of the day, everyone is a bit tipsy and it's a bit of fun on the bus.

So far, I have done 1 in Marlborough (for my partners birthday) where we had a group of 10 people onboard, Juliearna (the boss) drove our bus and she was awesome, so open, friendly and down to earth, even arranging to drop us right home to our door. (pre-planned with the company)

I've done 2 (soon to be 3) trips in Queenstown with friends, and it was so easy to get from winery to winery, takes away the need for a sober driver. We also chose one place to stop at for lunch and just jumped back on the bus the next time it came around. This time we're stopping for breakfast at Akarua at 11am, then jumping back on after that. Personally, I wouldn't choose any other companyto do a wine tour with when I'm down in Queenstown.

I highly reccommend this company, if you are considering a tour in either Queenstown or Marlborough. :D

A group of 10 us did this very overpriced tour.. even though we got a discounted price of $59.50 pp this seems an exhorbitant price considering this was ‘discounted’. The stops & circuit covered would not have been more than around 45kms in total. A private limousine would have been cheaper! Our first driver did not wear a mask, telling us she was exempt and yet all passengers were expected and did, wear masks. Not a good look for the company in these covid tomes. I would not recommend doing this tour at this price. It only include the bus transport- no water and of course wine tastings all cost $$$ at all the stops we went to.

Hello, firstly I want to address your comment of masks as this is very serious, this particular driver informs everyone who is onboard as she did with you, as you know she was exempt. She has a medical condition and is exempt, she wears the badge and has all the appropriate information if someone asks as well. You must wear masks if you are not exempt this is NZ law!. Secondly the run just one run is 75km and we do this 7 times so lately we are losing money not making any. You receive wonderful information and specials at all the places. It is fine to feel it is over priced as this is your opinion. Actually a private limousine for $600 for 7 hours that's farcical more like $1200 to $1500. We have also not had 10 people go out on our tour in one group for months and months so it was either your group did not tell us and this is not allowered or you were a 12 or 15 as I just went though all the bookings in our system for the last 4 months. 99% of clients love our tour. We wish you a good day. Juliearna Kavanagh the owner.

Went on this bus tour last week, first driver was speeding. Second bus so late made us wait. Then over 8 got of and she stopped 3 of us said we couldn’t get if as they can only take 8 people. Then told busses come every 15mins didn’t see one for 2hrs and then told by the driver not to buy wine at gibston winery as they over charge. So got a friend to pick us up in the end. Do not recommend this tour. Felt like I was at primary school and not treated like an adult🤬

Sorry this is a joke, we do not run every 15 minutes its a timetable every 45 to 50 minutes approximately. As you have just made this account to write this you are a competitor or the ladies from below who have already written 1 star reviews.. No driver would ever tell someone not to buy wine as none of the winery's over charge. The drivers do not speed as buses are capped at 90km so this is not possible. We have GPS on all our buses so we know exactly if they are running late, speed etc which they have not been. If you were a true review a real name is good not a false one.

Terrible experience, if you want to laugh and enjoy a fun time with friends this bus is not your option. Very rude owner, with a horrendous phone manner, completely unprofessional and argumentative. All she wants to do is be right and not listen to you or your concerns. I don't complain often, the rest of my trip was fabulous, thankfully this was my only bad experience.

Hello Melissa, Below is the exact reply we put on Book me which was where you booked. We have barred you from any off our buses in all locations. Thank you for review. Enjoy a laugh, making the bus leave late due to Carolyn Redshaw throwing up in the toilets is not a laugh, asking a driver to pull over on a busy road so some one can throw up at 10.15 am on the road at the back of a bus is not a laugh! Making buses run late is not a laugh! Ringing up because buses are 8 minutes late isnt a laugh when your party caused the problem. Wasn't a laugh for us Melissa. We should have returned you back to Queenstown. All in all I do not believe we deserve a 1 star review if you are drunk from the night before dont go on our buses as you ruin it for everyone else. I had also yesterday sent an email to Bookme to explain all of the above. Thanks Juliearna Kavanagh

What a great day this was. We caught the bus from Queenstown and it was a short trip to the start of our winery hop on hop off in Arrowtown. Our first stop at Gibbston Valley Cheese was really good value, had wine & cheese matching for $15 and hubby had beer with his. There was a good selection of wineries we stopped at to do tastings. Well worth doing.

The hop on hop off wine tour is a must do when in Queenstown. We were picked up in the morning by our lovely bus driver Lori. Her cheerful personality set the tone for the day. We tried all the wineries she recommended and they were spot on. We had opted for the full day trip so that we didn't have to rush (given the amount there is to do, it was the right decision). At one point we asked for an additional stop and a special bus was sent to pick us up and drop us off at the chosen winery. Robbie our driver also very personable and knowledgable gave us lots of excellent tips. It was a brilliant day. Our favourite stops were Nockie's Palette and Brennan's Winery. Nockie's Palette is newly opened and is a gem of a place, set in the Stoneridge vineyards. The buildings have been lovingly built stone by stone by the owner herself, an artist, who was busy tending the roses when we arrived. The wines are carefully selected and each has a story which brings together wine making, art and a love of fine things. Our other favorite, Brennan's Winery, was so good we stayed there until the last bus came to pick us up and return us to Queenstown. The wines are scrumptious and once the tasting is done it's worth slowly savouring a couple of glasses of your favourite. Mine was the B2 Pinot Noir. The owner of the vineyard himself explains each of the wines and how they were made and if you are lucky he might also offer a taste of his wonderful not-Port Port.

The two drivers Lorie (or was it Lore) and Roxie were informative & entertaining. We were very lucky to have a sunny warm winters day so were able to discard the coats and sit outside in the sun at some of the wineries visited. Would certainly do this tour again, but start earlier to be able to fit more wineries in.

This was an awesome way to get to the wineries and pubs. Three of us come to Queenstown every year, do the winery trip in our car so one of us cannot partake in the good quality beverages, so we decided this year we could all sit back and enjoy the scenery! We had Roxie as our driver twice during our hop on and off, and she was so amazing, had the bus laughing, clapping and cheering. Great places to stop at, will definitely do this again next year on our annual pilgrimage and get to stop at other venues we didn't have time to go this trip!
