    Maori Welcome on Lake Wanaka
A wonderful cultural experience on the Wanaka lake front. A must for all travellers to New Zealand, to experience the customs and culture of the Maori people. Not only was Joe's presentation of the Haka moving, the fact that he broke each part down and translated his words into English, then explained why things were done, meant that our student group could gain a deeper understanding of the Maori culture. A trip to Wanaka would not be complete without experiencing a Maori welcome from Joe.

    A Warm Maori Welcome
Thank you for the warm Maori welcome you extended to Team iNova last month. The entire group really enjoyed your performance, it was informative and educational. We really appreciated how you paused to explain each part of the haka, many people mentioned this afterwards. I really appreciated the explanation around the breath of life, I think it’s beautiful that you share this with your daughter each day and incorporate your culture in your life each day. Thank you Joe.

    Welcoming a new era
We very much enjoyed having Joe at our venue to officially welcome our wine club members to a reinvention of our brand. We were very honoured and excited to have this beautiful experience and education around the welcome.

    Brilliant experience
We organise a lot of First Nations welcomes in Australia for all the events we produce and we all had to say that was one of the most wonderful experiences. Your energy, passion, humour and the education elements were in perfect balance. We all have a much deeper understanding of Maori culture.

    Great tour and guide.
We had Joe all to ourselves and he told us so much about the Māori people and culture and how they travelled to this area. He is very passionate and knowledgeable. The 3 wineries we visited were wonderful. Locally owned and so personal. Great way to spend our first day in Wanaka.

    Best tour in town
What a fantastic tour, Joe was such a lovely man to spend time with, enjoyed learning more about Māori culture, 3 wineries were excellent especially the meat platter at the second winery. Last winery gave us an awesome behind the scenes tour of how wine is made. Our group bonded and laughs had by all thanks so much Joe

    Aussie guinea pigs
A fabulous day out with Joe's Maori culture and wine tour. Picked up from accommodation and taken to experience 3 wineries over 5 hours. Started the tour with a Hongi (breath of life) and traditional Maori greeting, felt so included in his passion for his culture. Our group were the guinea pigs for a new cellar door experience and it was amazing. 100%. Stay tuned to his website for more details. Well done Joe and thank you.

    Incredible!!!
Incredible tour! It was my first time doing a wine tour and Joe was so lovely in teaching us Māori culture while educating us on the wines. He made us feel so comfortable from the very get-go and was so enthusiastic throughout the whole time. I had a fantastic day, it was something I was extremely excited to do and the experience went above and beyond my expectations. Loved learning about the history and culture of the area, while also learning about vineyards and wines, I would absolutely recommend it to everyone!!!

Amazing experience - couldn't recommend enough
As beginners to wine, Joe provided us with an amazing introduction to Wanaka's incredible wines and Maori culture. We had the pleasure of visiting three different vineyards, which all had great wines to taste. We found that each vineyard bought something unique to the experience, which was great. We also had the pleasure of having Joe teach us about Maori culture and history, which we really valued and enjoyed. We can't recommend this tour enough- thanks Joe for making it such a great experience!

    Unpleast experience
Was supposed to go on Māori welcome but we never received the email with location and details. We went to isite office in Wanaka 15 minutes before it was supposed to start to find out where exactly we were supposed to meet. Girls there tried contacting Joe by email, msg and phoning but no reply. They told us to try at Wanaka tree because sometimes it was there, so we walked there but no. Asked Joe by email if we could go for next morning instead as we had tried for 45 minutes to find where we were supposed to be. All we got back was no tour is full and the 10 other people received their email. Though ours was sent to my email we never received it. If I had we would not have spent 45 minutes looking for him. We then emailed a few times on separate occasions asking for a refund never to be answered. On the last one I asked about the refund again and mentioned I was going to do my trip advisor review in the next couple of days. The reply I did receive was the refund has been sent (I received half of it) and that my emails were threatening and if I thought my review would affect him he would have it removed when he showed them all my threatening emails. Not sure how asking for a refund and mentioning trip advisor is threatening. This is all so sad as both of us really wanted to be part of the Māori welcome, definitely not now. Sorry for the long story but only way to explain. Btw still awaiting reply on my last email to find out if I am getting the other half of my money back.

Spiritual Welcome to land, history, heritage, culture, people of Queenstown
We would like to extend our gratitude to Joe Waide (Māori tribal warrior) who’s presentation and cultural performance yesterday, were outstanding. What better way to formally welcome our delegates and attendees (all Aussies) and to show our respect, our acknowledgment and admiration to the history, the heritage, to the Land, the culture and to the ancestry and people of Queenstown, via Joe’s ‘reception greeting’. Haere mai, ngā manuhiri tūārangi And Joe performed his ‘traditional welcome greeting’ with passion, with pride, with dignity and with a great deal of enthusiasm. It also brought about a sense of complete respect for each of us during the ‘ceremony’ – including the acceptance and receiving the branch, the Hongi etc. I was most impressed by this Hongi and ceremony and the commentary and feedback from our delegates has been extremely positive and ever-so respectful as well. So, we extend our many thanks to Joe and wish him all the very best. It certainly created and enhanced the Opening Address and Welcome to Congress. We will have no hesitation to recommend him for future events and obviously, if we are to return to Q’town, we will seek him out again. Kind regards, Mark Stephen Managing Director Civitas Services Australia

Entwining Māori and European History with a stunning wine tour across Central Otago - this tour is a must attend. Joe is personable, and has a wealth of knowledge about the region. The wine is also 11/10 and can be tailored to your personal taste preferences. Would 100% recommend this tour to anyone and everyone who wants to get out and about in Central Otago (and Pinot lovers as well)

Joe is an absolute delight! We had the best day with him touring Queenstown area wineries. He taught us so much about Maori culture and he led thoughtful discussions with prompts that encouraged us to apply Maori sentiments in our own lives. We enjoyed our tour so much that we are already signed up for another one. This is a unique Aotearoa New Zealand experience not to be missed!

My husband and I had the most fantastic time! Joe was a great host and storyteller, we learned about the local history and Maori culture. The three wineries we visited were all different and lovely, with really friendly staff.

I originally booked the wrong tour and found out the day before the booked tour. Joe was really flexible and helped us move to the correct one on a different day.

It was just us and another couple, truly a small group tour, and Joe made us feel so welcomed and we had such a great time together. If you're looking for a wine tour then look no further!

We had an amazing day touring the countryside with Joe! He took us to some excellent wineries, as well as explained the Maori history of the places we went to. It was the perfect blend of culture and gastronomy. Joe is a really friendly guy, so easy to talk to and super knowledgeable about the area and Maori traditions.
I highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting a wine tour with something more.

Feeling fortunate beyond what I could have possibly imagined, to have experienced this day with Joe. Learning precious stories and richness of the Māori Culture and experiencing The Hongi with a true gentleman such as Joe was memorable and gifted me hours of storytelling to share with my friends on my return home. The wineries were top notch, as were the quality of the wines.. I simply must return.

My adult son, his girlfriend and myself feel entirely Blessed to have shared this day.

Thank you Joe n Co,

Rosanna

The full day Queenstown wine tour with Joe was remarkable in every sense. We completed around 20 tasting at three different cellar doors. At each cellar door we were treated like VIPs due to our small group and Joe’s upstanding reputation. This alone, makes Joe’s experience worth the money; however, it gets even better. Joe shares the rich Māori, culture and regional history throughout the trip. My favorite part was learning the traditional Māori greeting. I will certainly be doing this tour next time I’m in Queenstown (or Wanaka).

We lucked out and ended up with a private tour with Joe. He was on time and picked us up at our hotel in his clean and comfortable van. Friendly from the get go, he was informative and entertaining on our ride the the first winery. He took us to 3 boutique wineries where he was greeted like family and we had lovely reserved seating. There was absolutely no pressure to buy any wines but we happily found “must have” souvenirs from each winery since they all had delicious offerings. A nice drive through Arrowtown and a brief stop to watch some bungee jumpers were bonuses which wrapped the day perfectly. We hope to repay the favor the next time Joe comes to visit his friend Keith and take him whiskey tasting. Ngā mihi nui.

Joe's tour was amazing!!
The tour started with a hongi which was such a beautiful way to start the tour. During the drive we learnt about Maori tradition and the history of the area.
We visited some fantastic wineries and had a delicious salmon and cheese board. The tour was at a nice and relaxed pace. Plenty of time for chats and photo ops. Joe also had many recommendations about things to do while here on holidays. I can't recommend this tour enough!! It was great
