- Sophie4016900It was awosmeI went on a one-week trip to Queenstown and had an amazing time here there was so much the worn maze and the ball pit was my fav. my brother Isaac was jump scaring us in the pitch black room it was funny and scary. the sensory swings with the red and greens lights were pretty fun there were mirrors around us but we found the door I 100% recommend this place to people to have fun and test their senses
- MKaur000Best journey through a mazeWhat an amazing experience! Each door you walk through enters you into an amazing room with will something out of the world to enjoy! Definitely a fun maze to walk through! I would highly recommend coming to this place!
- Alana P00Enjoy each room.I very much enjoy the sensory maze, each room is a lot of fun to explore but definitely take your time to explore, it will all be over much too quickly if you rush through each room.
- Tinkie1200Surprises through every doorThis was a fun experience. Rooms you crawl and creep through with different sensory appeal. Through every door there were surprises and lots of giggles. I don't recommend doing it if you can't crawl or climb through smaller spaces or if you're afraid of the dark or confined spaces. This was definitely a unique experience. The only reason I haven't given it a higher rating is because I felt it was a bit overpriced. The whole experience was over in about 10 minutes so I didn't rate it as good value for money. We also had people coming up behind us who kept opening the door into the room we were in so we felt pressured to rush through it. Luckily we had tickets that allowed us to go through again within the hour so the kids loved being able to go through it again (and I would recommend buying these tickets if you want to make the experience last).
- KC-NZ100Not what we expected - much better! We did this as a filler - the advertising said it was about 30 minutes and we had a bit of time to kill so off we went. My husband and I were expecting we would just be tagging along behind our 13 year old. We all thoroughly enjoyed it! There is a bit of climbing through stuff to do (don’t want to give away too much!), but very manageable if you take your time. We did and took about 40 minutes. The having to use feet and hands was great, and a number of different things to try out. Our fave was the mirror maze. We’d definitely go again and wish we’d had more time to go through a second time! The manager was very friendly - always great when you get a smile and a laugh. Absolutely worth a visit.
- Galahgirl100Fun for all agesLots of fun, no matter your age - would recommend wearing comfortable clothing as you’ll need to be able to walk, crawl and feel your way through the maze. Would definitely go again!
- JuddyRiwai00Suitable for all ages, just make sure you go to the toilet before hand as you may pee yourself from laughing so much!!!Amazing!!!! from the youngest 9 to the oldest of our group 70 all 5 of us thoroughly enjoyed it. #friendsofodyssey
- tanyapaulm00Family funWe loved this activity even if my son and hubby decided to scare me every time we entered a dark room but we all came out laughing so much and will definitely be back to do it again next time we are in Queenstown. The young lady on the counter was super friendly and helpful
- JLO011400Terrible service and overpricedThis is our second time here, thought we would give them a second chance. Sadly, this would be our last time here. Spent $143 for 10min. Lady at the counter has an accent and looks to be in a boring job, hence not very exciting in talking to my wife. No toilet offered onsite, and were told to go accross the road using the public toilet near lake.... Will never come back again!
- careny67400Loved it!The kids and I had such a fun time in the maze. They said it was "the best thing they did all trip". Highly recommended.
- Karina R00Fun ActivityI had done this years ago on the Gold Coast Australia. Perhaps I expected more as that one was better. Maybe I’m too old for it. Wasn’t as exciting as I hoped however I’m sure younger ones will love it.
- 814karinar00FunIt was fun and enjoyable. We had a great time. Would recommend to the younger generation. The mirrors was the best.
- MarinoH7600For thrill seekers lolIt was a great unexpected experience… We waked passed and popped in for a jack… Worth it if you want to try something different…
- TamsyNZtrips00Smashit and Odyssey make a great comboMy son and I did this as a combo with Smashit. Had a great time getting all the stress out first in Smashit and then going through the mazes after. Felt like big kids in the sensory maze and loved it.
- Claudia C00So much fun!We were wondering around and found this maze, and we decided to experience this activity. It was so much fun, we laughed a lot, it was like being a child again. Very recommendable.

One of my children loved it but my 8 year old found it very distressing. If you have kids who have any sensory defensiveness or sensory processing issues, if they are afraid of loud noises, balloons popping, or they're scared of the dark or small spaces, please don't take them to this activity. The traumatic part is that once you're in there, you can't get out, you just have to keep going. There didn't seem to be any emergency exits and you can't go out the way you came in, so definitely don't go in if you have any medical conditions. My child started absolutely panicking right from the first room, which was packed with balloons - he was afraid they'd all start popping as he climbed through them. So it was not fun trying to find a way to escape from there with a crying, screaming, hysterical child. Because you have to get down and crawl through small spaces and over obstacles, I couldn't even carry him or hold his hand and I was afraid of losing him in some parts. I guess I was expecting something a little gentler, since it's aimed at families. I really think it needed to be explained more clearly on the Bookme website, that this activity is only suitable for fully able-bodied people with no health conditions, who can tolerate intense and scary/unpleasant sensations, as it was described as 'quirky', not scary, and I didn't see any warnings on that website besides about the strobe lights. Trauma aside though, I think I would have enjoyed it if I hadn't taken the kids. Some of the rooms were really cool. My older child raced through finding the way quite easily but I found it quite disorientating and probably would have been stuck in there a while. It only takes about 15 minutes to get through it though, so I thought it was quite expensive (like everything in Queenstown of course). We were allowed to keep going through multiple times for an hour but obviously that wasn't really an option for us. All in all, I'm sure some people would really enjoy this and what made it too scary for my child would make it exciting for others, but please be warned, it's not for everyone.

Hi Getaway,
Thanks for taking the time to review Odyssey Sensory Maze. We’re sorry to hear you had mixed feelings about your experience. We do want to point out that on our Book Me listing as as our website do not recommend Odyssey for small children that are afraid of the dark and new environments etc. Both webpages have words to the effect of the below:
"We don't recommend Odyssey for children under 8 years of age. This is largely due to the fact that there are darker areas inside the maze (one small area is pitch black) combined with some intense sound effects and younger children, typically those under 8 years of age in our experience, can struggle with these areas. Entry isn't prohibited for this age group it just isn't recommended by us. Every child is quite different and some children of these ages love the experience, some find it a little more daunting. So entry for younger children is at the discretion of the accompanying parent or guardian after being informed of the above. Please note also that should you decide to take young children through the maze and then want an early exit therefore not completing the experience, we are unable to process any refunds so this is also something to take into consideration when deciding to go through with them or not."
In saying this, many children love their experience through Odyssey but we understand every child is different and so we take great care to ensure customers read through the check-in app information, experience a safety briefing with our staff and also watch an intro video all prior to entry. This is to ensure all customers are fully prepared for the experience they are about to embark on.
Regardless, we're pleased you and your older child loved the experience and managed to secure cheaper tickets online.
Thanks for visiting and for your feedback.
Cheers, The Odyssey Team

Probably my own fault for not researching and reading reviews prior - However, the wife and I arrived with our three year old daughter. We promptly received a silver tongued and speedy intro, the enthusiastic delivery would have given an eighties double glazing salesman a run for his money and this guy was equally as disingenuous. When asked, is it suitable for a 3 year old? the response was vague and difficult for him to confirm 'as it depends on the child'. However, he described how some small children absolutely love it, and his body language was very encouraging, so we satisfied ourselves it was therefore safe.
Let me tell you point blank, this is not suitable for a 3 year old under any circumstance. Unless that 3 year old is actually 7+. We were quickly encouraged to pay, with a proviso that there are no refunds and presented with the $5 up sell to be able to travel through the maze multiple times within the hour. Then we had to fill in details and H&S disclaimers on a screen (with lots of 6 point text T&C's)
... oh and were given the highly technical paper glasses. Apparently these heighten the visual experience (?)
What followed was a series of small spaces with low budget and lame sensory experience, you could probably fit the whole thing in less than 60 SQM and it took 10 mins to get through, with a screaming, distraught child (from room 1) and a panicked mother. I put my choice down as an absolute disaster. This cost us $35 each! (under 5 free) and when we came out I was so angry, I refused to speak. Let alone make use of the extra $5 we paid to do more laps. I can imagine tweenies loving this on a rainy day or maybe some early twenties with their own experience enhancing solutions onboard. But actually this is a con, right from the first pitch.
We had a fabulous week in wonderful Queenstown and everywhere else was a positive experience. I am surprised this business survives here, but then I guess there's been enough tourists to sting just the once! I just felt completely mugged.

Kia Ora Brian,
Thanks for taking the time to review Odyssey Sensory Maze. We’re sorry to hear you had mixed feelings
about your experience. We're sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your experience through Odyssey Sensory Maze. We have thousands of visitors every year who absolutely love their experience so we're sorry to hear you didn't fall into this camp. The attraction fills the entire ground floor level of the building and with a variety of different rooms on offer we feel there is something there for everyone.
Having followed-up with the staff member in question, all of the necessary processes and procedures were followed including determining whether the activity would be suitable for your little one. As stated, there are darker areas inside the maze (one small area is pitch black) this, combined with some intense sound and lighting effects can be a little unsettling for younger Odysseans. That’s why we don’t recommend Odyssey for kids aged under 8. With that being said, every child is different and some younger Odysseans really love the experience; some find it a little more daunting. It’s up to you if you think it’ll be suitable or not for your wee nippers. As a heads up that should you decide to take young Odysseans through the maze and then want an early exit we are unable to process any refunds, although as you pointed out, those aged under 5 are completely free of charge. Therefore, our staff member wanted to ensure you were entirely comfortable before entering Odyssey but ultimately the choice is yours to make.
Finally, we do not endorse the use of drugs or alcohol onsite and find any comments encouraging others to use these whilst visiting Odyssey Sensory Maze to be inappropriate. Odyssey is a much-loved, New Zealand owned, family-friendly attraction.
Thanks for visiting and for your feedback.

The outside of the shop was more exciting than what you paid to 'experience'. I have been to a sensory maze in the gold Coast and expected it to be in line with that, boy was I wrong! My husband and I walked past one night and decided to pop in to waste a little time, but instead we wasted our dollars. I'm seriously disappointed and dissatisfied as there was nothing mind blowing or trippy about it, it was really lame! I must have completely missed something because this place is surely taking the mickey.. I was so glad I didn't drag my friends along as I was embarrassed enough to walk thru it. The young girl who served us (short blond Bob) didn't smile once, she seemed like she didn't want to be there or didn't want us to be there, seemed pretty short and abrupt with her answers. Yes she did say take time in each room but that's because she's been told to say that but infact why prolong the pain and boredom in each room just to meet company expectations of how long it should take so when people do finish it earlier than expected they can say we'll you didn't take your time... The place is a have, and I think the girl at the counter didn't want us to go in and was trying to put us off because she knows how lame it is but couldn't say. Also during the maze we saw her in one room and she ducked out thru one of her exit doors. And she gave us 3d glasses that we paid for and she said they are new with out the wrapper to save on plastic, I call bull, we definitely paid for used pairs that people return, as she was sorting thru them looking for a less wrecked pair. Lame lame lame!! The only way this place can redeem themselves is a refund as I swear half the things were not working at the time we went thru. And a message to the property owner : contact me if you want to talk further about this because replying a copy paste response to any negative review you get on here will not cut it for me, just because you can not handle it, suck it up and take it on the chin because I think this is a, pretty fair review considering how much I paid in relation to the experience I received.

Grip socks are a must!! As footwear isn't allowed you have to wear socks. Unfortunately socks provide no grip on sloping carpet, lino or wooden floors. One broken tailbone later and I definitely wish I had chosen a different activity.
The rooms were interesting but certainly not worth the price of entry. We were left waiting too long to enter the maze and staff were disinterested in my injury.
Definitely would not do this activity again or recommend.

My family and I came to the odyssey sensory maze to do a fun activity and were beyond disappointed. For 2 adults and 2 children it came to a total of around 120 dollars and the service was pretty terrible. We completed the maze in 9 minutes and were left wondering where the rest of it was for the price that was paid? Would be good for kids under 7.

This is suited to older kids and is probably a great experience for them. I went through with 3 kids ranging from 20 months to 8 years and they struggled. No one mentioned it when I was booking in and it was advertised as suitable for all ages. It was very dark throughout all rooms. Trying to get 3 screaming kids through the pitch black room where you have to navigate obsticules was toture. The photos on the website don't make it look so dark. They were excited about the mirror maze but even in there the light turn completely off every 10 seconds or so for a few seconds. Which feels like forever with scared kids. It just turned into a race to get out as quick as we could.
I know it would take away some of the senses but it would be a lot more enjoyable for younger kids if they offered a time slot with the lights on. They enjoyed the foam pit.

Hi Alyssa, Thanks for your review of Odyssey. We are sorry to hear that you had a negative experience. Could you kindly let us know on which plattform you have booked the tickets as we would like to follow up as usually we make it clear on our website as well as 3rd party platforms that we recommend Odyssey for children above 8 years as they can find the dark areas a bit daunting. We also mention the dark areas on our waiver form each customer must sign in before entering the maze. On top of that, we have posters positioned throughout the reception area mentioning the dark areas. Thanks for your feedback and visit.

Unfortunately, despite getting a deal we were very underwhelmed by our experience. We were expecting more. We completed the maze in around 10 minutes and were told we could try it again but we were not interested. We thought that the space could be better used as an escape room. But we are both middle aged adults and cannot speak for other age groups. From the reviews that I've read, it looks like younger kids/families might enjoy the 'maze'.

Kia Ora Starrym...,
Thank you for your feedback, we love hearing from our customers. We’re sorry to hear you felt underwhelmed by the experience. We have thousands of visitors experience Odyssey every year and absolutely love their experience so we're disappointed to hear you didn't fall into this camp. We market ourselves as a "sensory maze" with the aim to be "to explore, play around and have fun". This is not to be confused with an escape room which is an entirely different activity.
Sorry again but we appreciate the feedback regardless.

I went in the day before to check if it was okay for me to do. I explained i have a bad shoulder and side. If there was any low bits . The lady behind the counter said it would be fine. As we were taking our grandson I could do it with him. Absoulity gutted went in next day and only got to one thing and it was low low down and couldn't get through the wires. Had to leave . Never got a refund. No good for older people. So be aware disappointing

Partner and I did the maze with a 3yo in tow and a 4mo strapped to me. A little unsure at the first room if I could even make it in but did manage it - a bit of stepping over walls involved. Baby was mesmerised by all of the rooms. 3yo had a complete blast and it was great fun for us all, so glad we did it! Took us about 30 mins to get through it all with plenty of time in most rooms. Staff were very friendly and helpful advising on whether to risk it or not. Totally recommend.
