- Kiwis_in_the_sun00The complete package for experiencing Milford Sound and seeing the AlpsAmazing scenery with plenty of photo opportunities in the best spots as selected by James our driver who was very knowledgeable and accommodating. Plenty of toilet breaks along the way with coffee available en route so need to go into coffee withdrawal from an early morning start.😉 July was really cold out on the water so wrap up well when going outside, otherwise the boats have really good heating with tea and coffee available along with a microwave for heating your own food. The flight back was the perfect way to top off an awesome day, not only cutting the trip back from 4 hours by van to 40 mins by plane, but also seeing the southern Alps along with the high level lakes was perfect. If I was doing the trip again I wouldn't change a thing as the drive out was awesome through the valleys and Homer Tunnel with Keas in the carpark, the boat trip comfortable and the flight back over the Alps offering great views and massive time savings 👌
- Nicholas L00The way to do it!!This is probably the best way to see Milford Sound. We considered driving ourselves without a group tour of any sort so that we could stop along the road wherever we wanted, but we opted for the small group van tour. We're thankful we did. Driving ourselves would have been exhausting and dangerous with the narrow windy roads, especially in the dark after a long day. Not to mention that the tour helped keep us on schedule to make sure we got to the sound on time. We booked the scenic flight back hoping to save time, but unfortunately the weather wasn't good enough to fly and all flights were cancelled. It was no issue hopping back in the van to head back home. The van is comfortable and has WiFi for most of the trip. Couple stops for coffee and plenty of scenic stops for pictures on the way to the sound, which is why we booked this trip! The sound itself was beautiful as well. Dolphins swam up right next to us. The drive in was informative from our great guide Ashley, and quiet on the way back as most people slept. All in all great trip! Tip: Arrive to your pickup spot early so that you can pick a good spot on the van. Sit towards the front if you get car sick.
- 387aggien00Best Tour EverAn absolutely amazing and jaw dropping experience!!! Especially since our tour guide Tommy made it so much fun. Would definitely come back a million times back!
- Sightseer4072547089800Ash the tour guide was amazing! Our tour guide Ash was one of the friendliest most knowledgeable tour guides we’ve had on any tour. Can’t speak highly enough of her. Milford sound was stunning!
- cindytravels1111111100Tour size exceed required personal spaceTour size should be capped at 50% of the transport capacity to take into account passengers who occupy additional seats when boarded first. My husband and I endured a rather uncomfortable 4h ride which especially during the winding roads. As we were the last 2 passengers to be picked up (from Te Anau), the remaining seats in the 16-seater van was in the last row for 4 where another couple has already occupied 2. All other passengers were picked up from QT hence most seats were already taken up, including individuals occupying double seats (1 seat to place their belongings) and even a couple who sat apart i.e 1 on double seat with belongings and 1 on single seat, understandably for more personal space. The last row was definitely not fit to sit 4 adults and we were beyond relieved to get off at Te Anau. One could also count this as unfortunate luck.
- Vacation0511289670800Fantastic tripFantastic small group trip in a Lux vehicle. I had my 86 year old mum with me and the Mercedes van was so easy to get on and off. Lots of great stops à fabulous driver guide, beautiful boat trip on Milford sound and a scenic flight back to Queenstown. An amazing day with a quality operator.
- FrancaAnt00Milford Sound 8th Wonder of the WorldLoved every moment surreal views breathtaking scenes magical water falls and more 10/10 to our guide ERIK well informed professional funny and most importantly a safe driver THANK YOU ERIK highly recommended
- saralenis00Best Coach-cruise- coach option for Milford Sound!!This all day coach-cruise-coach day with Chelsea was unreal! The ride was full of so much knowledge and beauty and then we got a small intimate cruise with about 50 people around Milford Sound. After the 2 hours Chelsea was there to pick us up and drop us back in town. The van size was perfect- 16people, we had loads of leg space, wifi (I'm writing from the van lol), charging ports, glass roof top. Today was so great, and BIG RECOGNITION to our gal of the day Chelsea. She knows so much about the area, flora/ fauna/ moss/ Maori history and legends, she answered extra questions, knows a ton about the area... today was perfect :)
- pmnz3000Erik was fantastic and the tour of Milford Sound was amazing. Our Guide Erik was entertaining and informative. Cared about each passengers comfort and needs. The trip to Milford Sound had amazing views and opportunities.
- Wendy C00Just Amazing! We really enjoyed being driven up the mountain to Milford sound and being so well taken care of by our tour guide/driver, Andy. He gave a great commentary the whole way there with a bit of history and some good stories to illustrate key details of the area. The boat ride was unforgettable! So worth the trip. As Andy might say, “Not too shabby at all!!” Thank you for a wonderful day!
- arresvillev00Amazing and comfortableWe had a comfortable and awe inspiring journey. Chelsea, our guide, was very informative and made us feel very welcome to the place. We can really sense the passion that she has for the place. I highly recommend this tour and will be looking forward to experience it again on a rainy season.
- PatriciaW92800Milford soundViews were amazing on the boat trip. The ride over to Milford sound could of been more informational. The flight back to Queenstown was wonderful.
- NHKP10000We had a great day outWe had a great day out which all started with a 7:30am pick up in Queenstown by Tania our Tour Guide & Driver for the trip to Milford Sound. Tania did a great job & was very knowledgeable in keeping us informed. We also had plenty of stops along the route to take photos, and again Tania was on hand to share information and her knowledge.
- 274gentryh00Worth the TrekMilford Sound is a site to behold! Be prepared for a long but well worth it journey. Our guide Pam on this tour was incredibly helpful and went above + beyond making my time in New Zealand enjoyable, without her I wouldn’t have found FergBurger!
- mariannehJ8312WQ00Great company for fab Milford tripA great tour. Superb buses and everything went like clockwork. Our driver and guide Andy was fabulous- informative, engaging, knowledgeable. Made for an excellent trip. Mitre Peak cruises provided an excellent trip round stunning Milford Sound. Highly recommended.

Such a good day being driven down the Milford Road and cruising around Milford Sound. A must visit place for anyone in NZ. Our tour guide, Andy, was great - he made the tour really fun, informative and relaxed. Altitude/Mitre Peak tours are run with smaller groups than the other Milford Sound operators. So if you'd prefer to be on a minibus not a coach, and on a boat that can get closer to the Milford Sound waterfalls, we would highly recommend!

My wife and I went on the tour with Chris and he was a great host. Very knowledgeable, friendly, and gave us good tips. It was also clear that he wanted to take care of his group by trying to get us to places before large crowds arrive and taking photos for people etc.
It is a long day and lots of driving but the views are worth it. Milford Sound is beautiful and quite the site to see. No wonder they nicknamed it the 8th wonder of the world. But not only that a lot of the sites along the way are also jaw dropping. This is the type of place where photos can't do it justice.
The meal on the boat was good and also had a coffee machine and tea.
On the way back a movie was also played and the bus also has WiFi on it. We've been on a lot of bus tours and were glad that it was a smaller van not a coach bus. And it was also newer, clean, and comfortable.

This is a full day experiencing the best that NZ has to offer. I congratulate the provider Altitude on such a professional and complete Fiordland experience. The Mercedes mini bus provided us with luxurious and comfortable travel on a wintry day. The tour operator Tania is a gem. Her non stop commentary was entertaining and informative and provided us with insights to the area that I doubt would have been highlighted with other tour operators. The last thing I want to highlight is the professional driving skills that Tania demonstrated during the entire day. Some of the road conditions were less than ideal and as someone who has been professionally trained to drive in those conditions I can recommend Tania as she ticked all on boxes. Thanks for a memorable day out.

Absolutely amazing trip and Tour guide Andy was so awesome! Started the day with Andy picking me and my partner up in Queenstown and driving us to Te Anau for first stop over at a cafe. Andy was super helpful, punctual, highly informative and funny with his in-depth knowledge of the region and surroundings. He knew when to pull out a joke or two and was a “not to shabby” guy (his inside joke). Once we freshened up at the cafe in Te Anau, Andy began driving us towards Fiordland Park where we’d lose phone service or WiFi on the van for rest of the trip towards and in Milford Sounds, but we knew what to expect and the scenery around us was breathtaking! Andy gave us multiple stops at scenic views to allow our group to take photos and take in the majestic scenery around us. Through Fiordland Park, through Homer Tunnel and into Milford Sounds he would provide interesting info on what we were looking at or the surroundings which was very interesting and helpful. Once in Milford Sounds we waited for only a short while until we were able to get into our boat with Captain Craig and Crew Member Dylan. They took us around the Sounds for 2 hours stopping at key location points, the scenery was unreal and mystical in a way! The boat took us along the Sounds looking at all the temporary waterfalls, to the open Tasman Sea, turned around back into the Sounds to see NZ Fur Seals lounging on the rocks and even more rare to see the Fiordland Crested Penguin! Once done, Andy took us back to Queenstown and overall what an incredible experience!! I would highly recommend booking through this company and again Andy thank you so much for the amazing day!

We had a great time with Graham, who was very knowledgeable and fun! We were able to go to small areas that the big buses couldn’t go to on our way to Milford Sound which were beautiful. Milford Sound of course was gorgeous, and the boat was only our two groups from Altitude, which was nice. A few hiccups occurred (through no fault of Graham’s) but they only gave us more of a story to tell at the end! One of these was a car fire in the tunnel on the way back (the only way in and out of the Sound by car) which stranded many passengers on the buses. But our fearless leaders, not knowing when the tunnel might open, made the decision to fly us back on the scenic flight back to Queenstown at their own cost which was amazing! It definitely made a great trip even more memorable. We wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.

Thank you for leaving a great review! A similar incident in the past closed the tunnel for 2 days and as we didn't want to disrupt your travel plans or risk being stranded overnight, we didn't hesitate in arranging flights out of Milford. We're really happy you enjoyed the tour with Graham and the disruption only added to your experience! Thanks again and we hope you enjoy the rest of your time in NZ

What a fun adventure! This trip was extraordinary. Although it was not clear skies and sunshine, we made the best of it. The bus ride is long, but Chris our tour guide/driver gave us some fun stories about NZ. We watched a nature video that was super informative, there is wifi on the bus and we watched a movie on the return drive. Chris made sure to make frequent stops to get cool pictures on our way! Even with massive amount of rain we had a great time. The waterfalls were stunning and there had to be hundreds! The cruise was very nice and the food was good! The itinerary was accurate with the trip being roughly 12 hours. No complaints. This was a great day!

A long day but was well worth it! Erik was a great tour guide - very knowledgeable of the sights, places, native plants along the road (among other things) as well as their history and cultural significance. I especially appreciated that he shared a lot about Māori culture. He was very attentive to the needs of everyone in our group. He was organized and kept everyone informed of our travel itinerary, timeline, safety, possible hazards/delays.
Our van was comfortable, seating a maximum of 16 persons. My daughter and I pre-ordered the chicken sandwich lunch which included chips, an apple, a mini muffin, a chocolate bar and some mint.
The tour is on the pricey side but considering the service and the distance, the cost is understandable.
The cruise on Milford Sound was great - views to behold! It wasn’t raining today but we still saw a couple of beautiful waterfalls. A few dolphins swam close enough for us to take videos.
The photo opportunities along the way was great too. We especially liked Mirror Lake.

The bus/van ride is about 5 hours one way with a few stops. We ended up spending a lot more money just to not have to ride in a van another 4-5 hours back to Queenstown. ( Booked a last minute airplane ride) The BBQ lunch was not as described at all and they ran out of most of the food. The scenery was beautiful at least, but this is not a tour that I would recommend. I would buy airplane trips both ways to Milford Sound.

Kia ora Mel,
Thank you very much for your honest review and feedback on your experience with us to Milford Sound.
First of all, we apologise that the buffet lunch was not adequate - as you may have been aware, Milford Sound has been isolated by road closures for some time and I believe on the date you traveled they were unable to get all of the supplies in. We do our best to manage expectations, but it appears many people have a different idea of what our BBQ lunch should entail - we will continue to reword/change our listings to ensure no one is disappointed.
As for the bus/van ride; unfortunately not every traveler has the ability to fork out an additional fee for the scenic flights, and it's also important to note that the scenery on route to Milford Sound is half of the experience.
Thanks again,
The Altitude Team

Absolutely fantastic tour! Milford Sound and Fiordland National Park are both incredibly beautiful - seeing the seals and keas was a highlight, and the mountains are so dramatic it’s hard to believe they’re real. Definitely worth going with Altitude Tours - the small group and smaller, more manoeuvrable bus and boat really improved the experience, and our tour guide Tania was exceptional. She was very friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about Fiordland, and her level of competence and organisation meant that the tour ran without a hitch - it was clear she knew the route like the back of her hand, which meant we could relax as she helped us maximise the number of national park highlights we could experience.

This is a small group tour (19 people I think) which is exactly what I was after. Our guide was Podge, who was awesome with his amount of knowledge of the areas we went to & was also very accommodating to the groups needs. Once we transferred to the boat for the cruise we did meet up with another 1 or 2 small groups, however there was plenty of food to go around & the food was wonderful. The cruise around Milford Sound was fantastic. It had been raining recently so there were many amazing waterfalls & our boat captain led us to several where if you were standing at the front of the boat you got wet we were so close! Our guide on the boat was extremely knowledgable & lovely. The bus ride home was also good. Of course it's long, but you can easily nap on the way back to Queenstown. Our bus was a lovely new minibus with very comfortable seats USB charger ports & a wide sunroof. I would highly recommend this tour & would happily do it again. Well worth the $.
