We took the 4pm round trip cruise on the Earnslaw including dog show and buffet dinner across the lake. It was such a great experience. Ever aspect of the experience was great and the dinner was amazing. The staff at the homestead where we had dinner were so helpful, attentive and accommodating. I would highly recommend this experience to everyone regardless of age.

Amazing food and views. Salads, roast veggies, cheeses were top quality, well presented. I must say the meat was cooked to perfection, I had sweet bread as well, and went back for seconds.

One star off for the cruise because seat were dirty (honestly would have only been half).

The dog show requires giving the goodest girls scratches before hand, unfortunately could not take dogs or animals back as souvenirs, but could buy stuffed animals at gift shop.

We thoroughly enjoyed the cruise to Walter Peak on the TSS Earnslaw especially the pianist. Although it was windy on the lake, the steamer cut a fast pace. We were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful homestead at Walter Peak. They were well organized and our bbq lunch was fabulous - the lamb and pork were cooked to perfection. We felt looked after even though they do it twice a day. After plenty of food including yummy desserts, we wandered around the farm to see the well cared for animals in the large grassy pens before the Earnslaw came back to pick us all up. What a great day. Well worth the money.

Bring your appetite and your camera. Delicious sights and offerings from start to finish. The BBQ lunch is elegant and filling. Steamliner really captures the imagination. Highlight of our holiday and we'll worth the investment.

We were staying slightly out of town but managed to get free parking quite easily and walk a short distance to the quayside. The TSS Earnslaw is a beautiful old steam ship and being able to see into the engine room with the stokers working away was fascinating. There was no rush to get off on arrival as tables were preallocated for dinner. Dinner is a buffet and there is ample salad, fish, shell fish and BBQ meat to satisfy everyone (and they were still putting more food out…). They do 2 buffets a day I believe so the whole operation is very slick and efficient. After dinner there is a chance for a wonder around and then we moved to a small amphitheatre where there is a sheep shearing demonstration and riveting sheep dog demonstration. Then it’s back to the boat and if you move to the lower deck in the stern, there is a piano player who leads a communal singalong. All very good for the money and highly recommended!

The steam trip from Queenstown to Walter Peak was very enjoyable. You are able to see the engine running and the men stoking the fires. In the passenger area there was a pianist playing the grand piano although we sat outside because the weather was so good so did not actually listen.
Dinner at Walter Peak was excellent. The choice of seafood execellent and the BBQ choice of meet great. The lamb, beef and pork were all superb.
I was also surprised how good and interesting the sheep shearing and dog handling was.
We were blessed with excellent weather so we could sit outside and enjoy Walter Peak at its best.

Cruising Lake Wakatipu upon the only working coal run steam powered ship through unparalleled vistas to a gourmet BBQ dinner at Walter Peak’s Homestead Restaurant, amazing . Sheep shearing and sheep dog herding demonstrations, amazing. Watching the engines working , the fires being stoked and listening to them run efficiently and quietly as childhood memories of riding steam trains come prominently to mind and being right in the engine room ...priceless !!!! Thank you TSS Earnslaw.

Kia Ora. The TSS Earnslaw sounds like it was definitely the right mode of transport for you and kept you entertained - she's very special. Thank you for your feedback, it's great to hear you enjoyed everything from the sheep shearing and sheep dog demonstration, to the dinner and views. We hope the rest of your visit to the region is just as memorable and you have the opportunity to visit us again one day soon. Kind Regards - The Team at Real Journeys.

If visiting Queenstown there us one unmissable treat you must do. The cruise and dinner at Walter Peak High Country Farm. The pleasure starts on the 1912 coal fired steamer the TSS Earlslaw that brings you across the lake in about 35 minutes to a beautifully restored house that houses the buffet restaurant.
An amazing array of fabulous food awaits. After gorging on the goodies here is a sheep shearing and sheep dog experience followed by the return cruise to Queenstown. A magic evening.

We really loved this experience! It was wonderful to go on the Earnslaw then arrive at Walter Peak High Country Station to see a sheep being shawn, a dog show and a yummy dinner. Travelling back to Queenstown under the stars just topped it all off. We would highly recommend this experience to others!
