Our party of 5 caught the Port-to-Port Ferry to Quarantine Island and returned just over 3 hours later. It was really great to be able to have a hassle free way to visit this special island. Rachel is knowledgeable about the area and we have always found her ferry service to be on time and reasonably priced. We appreciate it being available to to us.

First time using the ferry in my own city, and we loved it! The boat skipper, Rachel, was so friendly, with amazing commentary about the harbour. For the price we paid, it was a great little trip from Port Chalmers to Portobello, and we will do it again, next time with the Quarantine Island stopover. Definitely recommend to locals in Dunedin as an inexpensive treat of getting out on the harbour. The kids we saw disembark at Quarantine Island to go and do a treasure hunt looked excited at the prospect, and I thought it looked like a great family adventure! Definitely give this a go, and for tourists to Dunedin, both sides of the harbour (Port Chalmers and Portobello) have their individual charms, including galleries and various eateries to visit, so cruising one side to the other works well. Take a bus from the hub outside Dunedin Central Countdown to one or other, and then bus back to the city from the other side. At Port Chalmers, it is a walk of 10-20 minutes to Back Beach, where the ferry departure point is. All in all, it's an easy, enjoyable and inexpensive day out. Awesome!

Rachel is an amazing vibrant operator, she bringa the wild life and harbour cruises to a whole new level. We were privileged to experience her very affordable school holiday trip to Quarentine Island, the kids loved the treasure hunt. Rachel does everything possible to make your experience awesome, she personally talks to everyone, goes out of her way to ensure your having an excellent experience. Highly recommended all her services. Support one of best local operators around!

Booked a Portobello to Port Chalmers crossing as part of the Cycle The Loop round trip. The loop is an amazing cycle route, a real Dunedin highlight and Rachel is a fantastic skipper for the ferry, helpful and very friendly. An informative commentary as we crossed the harbour and a quick spot of a fur seal was an added bonus. Getting a heavy ebike on board and off again was no problem at all as they did all the lifting, and it sits safely in a rack at the back of the boat. Very highly recommended.

Great wee trip, Rachel is very friendly and informative.

Some better information about pricing could be provided (bikes are an additional $10 each way). I suspect this might put off quite a bit of repeat business, esp when it could become primary source when the cycleways are completed on both harbour sides.

Ebikes are heavy, so maybe recommend riders remove batteries to make loading
easier (riders may need to bring a key for this). Maybe a discount if the rider loads/unloads the bike themselves!

Thanks for taking the time to review us! :) And for your compliments! Its much appreciated :) It would be great to be able to offer discounts for people to load own bikes, but the extra cost for electric bikes ($10 per electric as opposed to $5 for road bikes) goes beyond just the loading. Because they take up more space, are heavier and we have an expensive custom made bike rack that can hold the weight of electric bikes, the extra $5 for electric is to help us pay for wear and tear on the boat, extra fuel for the added weight and the design and custom build of the bike rack itself. We feel that encouraging people to load there own bikes would result in health and safety risks. However, some people like to help, which we allow on the day if the person seems physically capable enough. Thanks for bringing that up as its something alot of people are curious about, when it comes to pricing. Also for your suggestion. Its certainly been considered early on when building our policies around loading bikes. We do offer concession cards, to help make this cheaper if you ride often. (We actually have a couple of regulars that go the other way and actually deliberately pay extra every time, as they feel its worth it.) We welcome a call or a message to ask about those:) Thanks again for coming along! :) Rachel

I was one of 11 cyclists who enjoyed biking from the city to Carey’s Bay for a deliciously lunch, then caught the wonderful Port to Port ferry across to Portobello, and cycled back to our starting point!! Booking the ferry with Rachel was all very professional and well organised. She is a great communicator. Rachel was a delight to work with loading our bikes - a slight girl, but energetically lifted the first 6 on to a custom made frame on the back of the boat. The other 5 bikes went on the deck. The interesting commentary crossing the harbour added to this very worthwhile experience!! Highly recommended.

This was our third trip with Rachel and we would recommend her to everyone. She is so helpful and strong (definitely a requirement with needing to load all our E bikes for the ride across the harbour)
Always interesting to have a commentary and we were able to negotiate our own time to cross over since there were 12 of us.
Great value for money. The Harbour Trail is such an asset for Dunedin and having this Ferry available means you can do the ride around the whole harbour.
We will be back!!!

4 of us had a great bike ride around Otago Harbour. The excursion was only possible because of the excellent service offered by Rachel and her Port to Port ferry. Booking was easy, the cost reasonable and the trip most enjoyable as we crossed from Port Chalmers to Portobello with our 3 e-bikes and 1 mountain bike. Dunedin is lucky to have the Port to Port ferry service.

We took this ferry to Quarantine island and return a few hours later. The skipper is very knowledgable and gave an interesting commentary which covered the local history, birdlife etc on the short journey to the Island. Nothing was too much trouble.
