    Great way to explore Christchurch
This is a perfect way to explore Christchurch. The commentary is really good, the tram ride is fun in very old tramcars, and it covers all the main destinations - art gallery, art centre, markets etc. We did the complete circuit first then did stops on the second round.

A blast from the past and an easy way to explore Christchurch
With our friends we enjoyed exploring Christchurch on these old trams - some originally from Sydney. The old advertising from yesteryear that was still in some carriages added to the charm. We first did a full lap of the city then returned top various locations we chose to get off at. The staff were friendly and informative, and all in all a memorable day was had.

One not to miss if you want to see the beautiful Christchurch city from top
Fantastic views going up and down the gondolas. Nice cafe at top and loved the history train which is complimentary with gondola tickets. I would recommend to go at 10am to get the most out of the day. Staff was friendly too.

    Must do
Not a great fan of heights. But was definitely a must do. Everyone was very polite and helpful. Great Cafe at the top everything you could want. Luge was awsome and even with work being done for an expansion. We had no hold ups

    View of Christchurch from above
The gondola ride is very dramatic, with views of Christchurch and also of the sea port on the other side of the mountain. It was stormy and windy when we were there, so we didn't walk around as much as we would have liked. It is a great way to see the city.

    Cute Activity in Christchurch
This was a cute activity and the views from the top of the Gondola were great! Reese was a great guide and actually went back for my hat when the wind blew it off during the punting. Thank you Reese! He was fun and had a cute sense of humor too.

Fun way to become familiar with Christchurch.
The day we initiated our pass to hop on- hop off was very windy. Note that you need to schedule your punt excursion. Finding the bus station takes a little doing, so allow yourself time to do that. We found the bus station where we were to meet bus #8, which did a little investigating, rode the bus out only to find the gondola not running. So pay attention to how windy it is because the gondola cannot safely run in very windy conditions. Luckily, we immediately caught a bus back in time for our punt ride. The weather had drastically improved and we loved the sunny punt ride.

    Beautiful views
The views were amazing. We took so many photos. There is a cafe on the summit and a ride attraction which tells a bit of the history of New Zealand.

    History learning with Panoramic views
I took my girls for an experience and wow it was amazing indeed. The Condola ride to the top of the summit was incredible and beautiful. The ride is about 10 mins each way and once you arrive at the top you enter via the store and it also take you to enjoy a discovery ride where it takes you on a journey to learn about Christchurch history. Here your six senses are being used and it was amazing indeed. All my girls ages 4, 10 & 12 really enjoyed and loved it so much. The ride takes about 7mins and highly recommend this. Lastly, enjoy the cafe with panoramic views from the top or go for an enjoyable walk also.

    Enjoyable tour
I decided to take the tram because I injured my foot going up & down Mt Vic in Wellington in the previous days. My husband & I enjoyed it & appreciated the guides’ amusing commentaries tho it was sometimes hard to hear them due to the noises from the tram. They were all very welcoming & I am glad we did it.

    Very nice views & time
It was a great time minus the time travel part being closed. A nice lady employee in the gift shop helped us secure a reservation for a restaurant in Lyttleton before taking the bus further south. I appreciated her willingness to go above & beyond!

Its a great way to explore the city. Kids are free which was a bonus for our family of four. Plenty of stops to jump on and off at and the tram stops regularly. We decided to still on the tram for one hoop then hopped off at the stops we wanted to explore more. The tram drivers were great at sharing stories and information about the city.

If you are planning on visiting Christchurch city itself, I would highly recommend taking the tram. It is hop on, hop off so you can visit several different areas without having to drive and find a place to park.

Plus, the commentary provided by the conductor will tell you what it is you are seeing. The whole loop takes only about 50 minutes. You can buy your tickets from the conductor on the tram or buy them ahead of time either on line or at the Christchurch attractions office near the Tramway cafe.

On busy days such as a weekend in early March, it takes a long time at every stop for people to disembark and new passengers to get on. This wouldn’t be too bad if the tram travelled a decent distance between stops, but it doesn’t, so you could walk faster than taking the tram. Of the 17 stops, half of them are just one block from the previous stop; one block had 3 stops on it. Not a single stop is more than 2 blocks away from the one before.
The commentary was not particularly informative as there was (reasonably) no commentary when passengers were getting on and off, and references were often made to places out of our field of vision so we couldn’t really be sure what place was being discussed.

There are several tram lines that run through the heart of Christchurch (even through a block of covered shops). The conductor sits in the front of the car and narrates as the tram passes many of the downtown highlights; discussing the impacts of the 2011 earthquake on the downtown buildings. The antique trams (1920s) are beautiful, with wood interiors and seats. At one point, the tram track dead ends and everything (including the seats) must reverse. The conductor unhooks the power cable, moves some driving components to the rear of the tram that now serves as the front of the tram. Quite an interesting setup!

You can sit back and listen to the driver tell you about the city's highlights as you meander along. A full circuit takes 50 minutes and there are 4 diffetent trams operating so you shouldn't have more than 15 minutes to wait. A very pleasant way to see the city.

We only had a few short hours to look around Christchurch before heading to the airport. This is a great way to see the city without having the hassle of finding a car parking space. Having the ability to hop on and off is a great benefit, as you see places like Regent Street where you would like to explore a bit more and some of the art works along the way need more time to view at leisure. The time between the trams is just right, which means you don't have to wait long before another one comes along for you to hop on. Drivers commentary was also very interesting.

We found the tourist tram the best way to traverse the city. We easily got our bearings of the city, and hopped on and off where we needed to go. The driver presented a descriptive narration of each area, highlight and building, as we tracked around the city. The trams themselves are historic dating back to the early 1900s; they have been lovingly maintained to perfection and give an old-age, real-life feel, to the whole experience.

This is the perfect way for newcomers to Christchurch to get a sense of the city. The tram driver gave an informative run down of the city sights and history along the entire journey. Well worth the ticket price.

I enjoyed my tram ride around the city. It’s 50mins and hop on hop off at several locations. It’s charming with a guided commentary by the ticket collector and a driver who also commentates. I thought $25 was expensive though. No Seniors price either. Ticket valid for day of purchase only - not 24hours! All of the places are really within walking distance in the city anyway. I recommend you look at the Cathedral, Botanic Gardens and Museum next door and then the Earthquake Museum. Also have a wander up to the ‘cardboard church’ and chair memorial nearby the transitional church. The mall area is nice with more cafes and bars down by the river and Remembrance Bridge. That could be nice for dinner. Again you need to walk there. There is a stop in a nice cafe street in the middle if you time your ride for brunch or lunch. The tram doesn’t go to the gondala. That’s a bus ride away. So look at a city map and decide whether you like the idea of a tram to SOME of the attractions or not, or just walk them.

I have a soft spot for trams, they just keep trundling along.. The Christchurch Tramway will take you around the city, so you can see the best of this city's sights. The drivers are very knowledgeable, you can do a "jump on, jump off" tour of the city. The Tramway was rebuilt after the 2011 eathquake and the route was extended.
