We didn't pre-book as we were unsure which day we would come. We arrived around 1.30pm on the friday before their long weekend and it wasn't very busy. We are a family of 4 and we found the family combo tickets to be worth while. We ended up getting the gondola and punting family combo. You do not have to do both activities on the same day.
The gondola rides are around 6 mins each way. At the top of the mountain, there are deck views as well as walk out views. The views are stunning even on a winter's day. My camera was not good enough to capture what my eyes could see.
The cafe is a nice place to rest your feet if you went for a bit of a walk around. Staff are friendly and prices are reasonable. It was a pity that the Time Tunnel has closed.

I got there early via bus and it was really nice to be allowed in a little early to get out of the wind
The ride is very smooth even on a windy day. The view from the top is indescribable really. You’re standing on a volcano rim and you can see two cities from there.
There’s a cool ride inside the upper building too that gives you some background on a few things that’s worth doing too. I didn’t eat at the cafe but had an Americano and was nice to sip on while enjoying the stunning view.

Well worth taking the time to enjoy some time going up to the top of the mountain in the gondola as the view was so breathtaking. It was a very hot day yesterday here 17th February, 2020 and the gondola itself was a little hot to sit in but other than that fabulous. We had coffee in the cafe at the top and purchased a couple of items in the gift shop and had quite an extensive chat with the lovely lady behind the counter who was so very helpful in finding us what we wanted. She totally went out of her way to do so and therefore making us extremely happy.

The gondola trip is most worthwhile. It gives a perspective over Christchurch and Lyttelton. Interesting walks and views. Best to make sure of the weather as it can be cold miserable and clouded in
Our trip was only partly obscured by scuffing sea mist. But warm and calm.
Views are excellent. The Red Rock Cafe served us good coffee and delicious date scones.

Really enjoyed it - not a fan of heights but although we were high we weren't ever that far from the slope of the mountain. Fabulous views of a fabulous city. Joined a long queue for the Time Tunnel but it was a very short ride past some screens and displays and not really worth the wait! Really good cafe and gift shop, and fantastic views across the Banks Peninsular. Definitely worth it.

Interesting outing although the actual gondola ride is a bit ho-hum but still good . The facilities at the top are excellent with friendly and knowledgeable staff in the gift shop and restaurant. The 'time tunnel' thing was a bit odd and also proclaimed a ban on bare feet (in NZ???). The shuttle bus was efficient but the driver! Oh so grumpy! But we had a good laugh about it.

Took the grandkids up for a look and the view was well worth it. Perfect day to look up the coast and down in to the port. Picked a time between tourist buses (as shown on Google) to arrive and walked straight on - no waiting. Staff were great help with sticking plasters when the youngest trip over a rock outside too!

Extremely overpriced for the value content, the views from the top yes are stunning, however save yourself alot of money and go up to Dyers Pass for free and have a coffee at the tea house up the top. $70 dollars for 2 adults and a child is eye watering, this attraction is bland with no WOW factor to remember it by.

This is about 15 minutes out of town. We were going to see family in Cors Bay, so it was on the way. The ride up is steep, but smooth. Pick a clear day, as you can see for miles. The ride up is great, but once you reach the top, the 360 degree views are spectacular, it gives you a great perspective on the surrounding area & city. The information boards are clear & it’s easy to see the places pointed our. You can walk the paths & even walk down. You can see tha harbour at Lyttelton, where Scott & Shackleton left for their Antarctica attempts.
There is a cafe, gift shop & other exhibition at the top.
Thought it was good value for money & well worth a ride & trip.

Hi, I think your ride is provided by Christchurch tramway. Not both but well worth the money as at the top there is lots to do. I enjoyed it and then I bought a tram ticket too and spent the day hopping on and off. I also recommend punting on the river too

Our flight doesn't land until 2:45pm on a Wednesday. Will we have time to even do a gondola ride? We have to leave for Wellington the next morning.

You can buy tickets online and also at the tram office in the Cathedral Junction right in the centre of Christchurch. I hope you enjoy your time in Christchurch
