About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- _adrienneasmith0 contributionsWonders of Wellington via Kaewa Tours and guide Tom Collier. My husband and I were traveling with another couple (friends) and we had some doubts about signing up for a tour which included a couple of stops we were not interested in, but Tom Collier was immediately agreeable to adjusting the planned schedule to suit our preferences. Tom was knowledgeable about every site we visited, took good photos along the way, and was great fun to be with. We like to find our own way around cities to see the sights, but this tour allowed us to see sights that are less accessible without a car, such as Evans Bay and the suburbs of Seatoun and Brooklyn. A sidenote: one of our group left his jacket in Tom's car and Tom was most gracious about returning the jacket to our hotel. We all were thrilled that the day was full of interesting sites and incredible views, and that our guide, Tom Collier, was a delightful guide/companion.Written February 12, 2025
- William Andrew W0 contributionsA DAY TO REMEMBERI always try to find companies who are happy to take on solo travellers. It’s not my fault that I’m travelling alone any more so I welcome being taken on board, especially when I’m happy to pay the premium that goes with it. Tom an Kaewa Tours we’re happy to do this. He contacted me almost straight away after making my booking and I appreciated that greatly. Then, when two days out, he hit a snag but he contacted me immediately to ask whether my plans were flexible enough to change. When I replied that it was not possible, he just said he would find some way to honour my original booking, no sweat. What more could anyone ask? A man who keeps his promise has my instant respect. He organised another guide, Simon. This was a master stroke … A big rugby and cricket fan and we were best mates right away. Coincidental, yes, but, hey, it works … that beside though, he knew his home city like the back of his hand. Simon was a brilliant guide. He was friendly and knowledgeable, a man of good humour and nothing was a problem. I saw the city with the help of a Wellingtonian born and bred. Every sight was interesting and informatively presented, lunch was included at a lovely seaside eatery and the time just flew by as he guided me round this beautiful place, making my first day ever in it completely memorable. If you’re looking for a personalised tour of Wellington then look no further than Kaewa Tours. They deserve to succeed on this quite magnificent day that I was able to enjoy.Written February 2, 2025

- X6732KKleannew0 contributionsMartinborough Foodie Delight Tour from Wellington, New ZealandMartinborough Foodie Delight was an awesome, fantastic, informative day out with our tour guide Janice! We were looking forward to the day and it was above our expectations! Janice pointed out so many extra areas of interest during the day and explained everything so thoroughly….it was a lot more than we expected. We truly felt spoiled by the end of the day which as much as it was a full exciting day…it was over too soon. As a local business Tom from the beginning with his friendly welcoming emails and thank you for supporting a local business really added that personal touch. We just received an email with which totally explained and reviewed exactly what saw and and did that day…a day we will remember for a very very long time. As retired dairy farmers from Canada, supporting local is always number 1 too us. THANK YOU AGAIN JANICE!!!! What a great day we had …you made us feel like family 🥰Written January 7, 2025

His was both witty and knowledgeable of not only the lord of the rings but of the culture and community of his city of Wellington and it’s architectural fabric. Was truly a highlight of our trip and would highly recommend any of the many tours with Kaewa!Written November 29, 2024
- HannahCMS0 contributionsLovely Wine TourThe drive from Wellington to the wineries was stunning. Tom was knowledgeable, extremely friendly, and laid back. - rkenner30 contributionsHighest Recommendation!Kaewa Tours exceeded all expectations and was one of the best tours we’ve ever experienced around the world. Tom & Jill reached out soon after our booking with a warm email greeting and offer to zoom with us to personalize our trip. We appreciated their genuine authenticity, kindness and professionalism. Tom made some great suggestions for our drive from Christchurch to Picton. They met us at the Wellington ferry and escorted us to drop off our rental car and take us to our hotel. The following morning Tom shared his love and knowledge in a full-day of fun, fantastic sights, good food, conversation & thoroughly experiencing Wellington. Going above and beyond, Tom took us to Te Papa and checked us in for our flight home. Tom genuinely cared about our enjoyment and experience. It is exceedingly rare to achieve the quality of relationship as quickly as we did, and we parted as friends. We highly recommend Kaewa Tours.Written November 14, 2024
- 57malcolmh0 contributions5 Stars! Our private tour with Kaewa Tours from Wellington to Martinborough was truly unforgettable! The real highlight, though, was Tom himself. There are tour guides and tour operators, and then there’s Tom and Kaewa Tours. Tom feels more like a friend showing his visiting relatives around his hometown than a traditional tour guide. His humor, knowledge, and dedication to making every tour memorable are why I couldn’t recommend Kaewa Tours highly enough!Written November 2, 2024

What a great day!! Tom picked us up for our Wellington Foodie Tour in the morning and we headed into Wellington for our first stop at Fix & Fog where we sampled a fabulous range of their peanut butters, followed by coffees at Leeds Street Bakery before lunching at Shepherd Restaurant. We sat at the chefs pass watching the kitchen staff do their thing, awesome lunch definitely recommend it. We then headed to the Wellington Chocolate Factory, we all sat around tasting the mouth-watering chocolate whilst listening to their story – very interesting.
It happened to be International Gin Day so it was very fitting for Tom to take us to Denzien Urban Distillery – just perfect, just loved the Gins and the surroundings of their tasting room definitely a must!! Tom had one last trick up his sleeve and drove us out to Miramar to visit the Double Vision Brewery …… wow we just loved it such an awesome place with lots of atmosphere and great staff, we tried few tastings and then a couple more just to make sure it really was that good ….. yep it was, again definitely a must.
We have been on a tour with Tom before and again he just is so brilliant at what he does, from the moment he picks you up to the time he drops you off you experience an exceptional day, he is so informative, so humorous and so very good at what he does. We would definitely recommend Kaewa Tours - Thank you again Tom we had a blast!!

Tom led a fantastic private tour with us across Wellington. We started with a beautiful stop at the top of Brooklyn Hill to view the city and then visited a roastery to roast our own coffee beans (and have our fill of caffeine)! For our lunch we had weekend brunch at Shepard, ate our (first) dessert at a chocolate factory, and then sampled some local beers at a nearby brewery. Dessert #2 was at a gelato shop before hitting a couple of requested Lord of The Rings locations. We loved the pace, variety, and overall quality of the tour. Absolutely recommend this. Thanks Tom!

From start to finish, this experience was perfect. Tom picked us up for our day of preplanned activities on a private tour which took us to the best of Wellington's foodie and scenic highlights (and the best local beers). A drive around the bays showed us Wellington's outer suburbs and the hidden Massey Memorial on the Miramar Peninsula. We learnt the reason behind the 'Wellywood' sign and even got to visit Gollum!
My favourite parts were the visit to Denzien Gin Distillery and lunch at Shepherd, whereas Sean most enjoyed a pumpkin spiced ale at Double Vision Brewing. I sense a theme here...
Our private Wellington foodie and scenic tour with Kaewa Tours was exceptional and we will definitely be back to try the Martinborough/Kāpiti tours too. Fantastic food, brews and great company. Thanks again Tom, you sure can't beat Welly on a good day!

This tour was amazing. We got to roast our own coffee beans and learn about the process. We brought some home and everyone loves the coffee. Additionally, we got to tour a chocolate factory, eat at local restaurants, and go to a local brewery. The food was amazing and we enjoyed Tom’s stories about all the places we visited. Tom is honestly the best not only tour guy but person.

We are thrilled that we chose Tom and Jill with Kaewa Tours. From our first contact with Tom by phone, we knew that the week we toured around the Kapiti/Wellington area, we were getting first-class, personalized treatment. Tom picked us up at the airport and started our tour right away, on our way to our B&B. The best part of the tour week was meeting the owners of the unique small businesses: the Manuka honey, the coffee brewing, the olive oil, Tom and Jill even had us to dinner at their home--we felt like family. We couldn't imagine a better guide to learn about the real New Zealand.

What a great tour! Tom was a great tor guide and chose really interesting places for the tour. My favorite part was roasting our own coffee beans. Pete at the roastery has built an amazing business. We also had a Sicilian lunch, a French cheese tasting and a beer tasting. All of the locations were so good and everything was delicious. Thanks Tom for a wonderful experience and fun day!

We had the best time traveling around with Tom. First and foremost his driving was impeccable on the windy streets of Wellington! We could not have done that kind of driving ourselves. Everyone we met at each of the establishments were fond of Tom and therefore fond of us. That made a huge difference than if we had done this on our own. We love food tours and they are the best ways to get to know a city. This tour with Tom goes down as one of the best!

We are a couple from the United States, just outside of Boston, and were visiting Wellington and wanted to see the sites and fun local attractions. We met Tom for a foodie tour and he was an amazing host/ambassador. He was punctual and communicated all that we were going to do for the day. He started our meeting by setting expectations and letting us know what we’d be in for. He’s got a great sense of humor and is obviously very knowledgeable of the area. He provided great insight into various areas as we cruised around the city. He checked in with us often to make sure we were comfortable and getting what we wanted out of the tour. The tour took us most of the day and we were able to see beautiful views while sampling coffee, a fine lunch, and craft beers. Tom exceeded expectations as a guide and did a great job of letting us know about things we could explore on the days we were spending in the city. I’ve been to many cities on many tours, and Tom ranks among the best. I highly recommend engaging him and Kaewa tours.
