- qwerty19eats00Do this tour!Excellent activity to do! The electric bikes made easy work of the ride, even the hills were a breeze. Amazing views, interesting stories and beautiful scenery
- VeeNZed00Location is goodWe did a full day e-bike hire and it was good. We got there at 9am when they opened to make sure we had a a choice of options. Helmets, bike lock & puncture repair all came with the price and a couple of the bikes had carrier bag on the back for taking raincoat & water bottle. The placement of the bracket which holds the touring bike lock on top of the small frame was so annoying. I constantly whacked my inner leg on it dismounting & climbing on the bike. Got quite a few bruises inside my leg by the end of the day. I mentioned to one of the staff they maybe it be moved under the frame like the other bike. He didn’t seem to care.
- OntheGoTO100Great adventure and info.Dylan was our guide for the eBike tour. He was fun, informative and made sure we all felt safe on the bikes. Overall, we had a great time! The weather cooperated and we had great views and photos too.

Our guide, Dylan, was fantastic along with Liam who helped to take care of us along our path. It was very informative, the views were incredible and it was just plain fun! Highly recommend Switched on Bikes!!!!!!

Despite having arrived in Wellington on a very drizzly morning, our prebooked bike tour still went ahead. Switched On Bikes lent us all wet weather gear and we had a great morning exploring Wellington, with a lovely stop for coffee and cake on the way. I don’t think we missed out on any sights and we had a good ride along cycleways and pathways, guide was so friendly and informative.

Our guide, Jimmy, was great. He gave us a thorough briefing on the ebikes(we had never been on one before), and within minutes we were confident and competent on the bikes. We had a fantastic morning, with wonderful views, fascinating information, a welcome cup of coffee, and all without breaking a sweat despite the hills, because of the wonderful bikes!

It was a really good tour, but could have been better. I was a bit disppointed that our ride took us onto main roads and residential areas, with little or no shoulder to ride on. Some large trucks and other vehicles came very close to us. I was surprised that our lead and rear guides didn't have headsets to communicate with each other. The group was spread out over quite a large distance. On the other hand, they were both very professional and friendly and make sure we all had a good time. I would recommend this as long as you're aware that there are no bike paths in some areas and for us, being American, we were riding on the 'wrong' side of the road, which was a little disorienting at times.

Thanks for the review and feedback and sorry your experience wasn't 100% excellent. We would LOVE for the whole route to be away from roads, but we aren't there yet! Our City Council is currently building more paths along the route which should be complete at the end of 2020 / start of 2021- however this tour will still include some road riding. We do try to be as descriptive as possible about the route in the description of the tour on Trip Advisor and on our website by saying that the route includes bike paths, on-road cycle lanes and regular road riding. We also give a briefing prior to riding as a reminder that you'll be riding on roads. For riders who don't want to ride on the road, we have a tour option called 'Intro to Wellington' that is all on paths and doesn't go on any roads. The headset idea is good- I will look into it for post Covid tours. Thanks!

We came to Wellington on a cruise ship but had booked this tour directly via the website and it worked really well. The free shuttle from the cruise terminal was easy and fast and we had plenty of time to get back to the ship. We loved the tour and the bikes, guide (Genevieve) , scenery and info we learned about Wellington.
Even though we had to ride on the roads for a bit it all felt very safe and we were really looked after. Highly recommend doing this!

Had a wonderful time on the bike tour! They made sure the bikes fit us properly and off we went to explore the beautiful waterfront. Tour was well paced and our guide, Dillon, adapted our route depending on the abilities of the people in our group. Would highly recommend as a way to see the city

Our guide was Dylan, he did a good job on the pre-ride brief, bikes all in good working order.. The tour was long enough to take in sights along the shoreline the majority of which you would not see on a city tour. There were plenty of personal touches too, making for a very enjoyable casual ride.

Great way to see Wellington. We had a wonderful time and our 15 year old daughter really enjoyed it too. The guide was entertaining and mindful of the different skill levels. The bikes were in excellent condition and the electric boost made easy work of the hill that gave us a wonderful panorama.

Our guide gave us breaks along our tour at relevant points. Plenty of time to get used to the gears for all of us. Great tour around Oriental Bay share path, past the airport and on to a cafe stop on Shelly Bay.

My daughter (20yo) & I only had a few hours to spare & she'd never ridden an ebike before so we hired them for a few hours to see the harbouride. Excellent service by the young gentleman, full information on how to use the different settings (tour, sport etc) and speeds and we were off. Visited Wellington last year & that's when I first tried the ebike. They are fun, quick & a great way to see the city.

My wife knows how to bike, but she is obviously afraid of a 5 hour bike trip. How physically strenuous is this tour?
buckeyetravel

The tour is as easy or hard as you want to make it if you go with the e-bike option. You can get a lot of assist from the battery so even if you just pedal lightly you go pretty fast. You stop for a snack about half way as well. I think our tour was closer to 3-4 hours. A five hour tour might be on a regular bike and If that is the case it might be pretty strenuous ride as there are some hills and wind to contend with. Go with the e-bike if you want an easier ride. We went with switched on bikes and they were great

If you email the tour operators they are awasome with times to match your availablility. From memory I think we arrived in port early but were on the harbour by 10am. They also have afternoon trips according to what you want to do.
