In spite of cold wind and rain we had an excellent tour with Phil. We really appreciated his driving skills through the winding mountain pass into the wine region. Quick but delicious stops at Cheese Shop and Chocolate shop before a fabulous lunch and wine tasting. Everything was delicious! Then on to more wine tastings, getting up close to playful fur seals, climbing up to a very high lighthouse, enduring high winds up there, and finally to another delicious meal before being dropped off safely back at our accommodation. Swing bridge walk wasn't an option as it was being repaired, but Phil did take us to a filming site for one of the Lord of the Ring movies instead. A great way to see and taste some of the excellent offerings in this part of New Zealand.

This was my third trip with Phil and it just gets better and better each time. He tailors the day around what wineries would be most appealing, remembers what I like to drink (all the Pinot gris), puts up with my constant demands to see dogs at some point during the day. Phil goes above and beyond to provide a great day out for his guests.
Book this tour, you won’t regret it.

Few things to note:

- The stairs to the lighthouse are evil but it’s over in max 10 mins, if I can do it, so you can too.

- If you want to take good pics of the 100s of seals you will see, take a decent camera, all my seal pics came out looking like rocks on my iPhone.

- The food at Moy Hall is incredible, don’t snack too much in the morning as you’ll ruin your appetite for lunch.

Thanks Phil for another great trip!

The highlight of our Wellington visit was meeting up with Philip who drove us to the Wairapa visiting so many interesting places. Although every one was a gem in its own right we especially enjoyed Poppies Vineyard with its gourmet lunch and exquisite wines. Cape Palliser was outstanding with the lighthouse a sentinel over the rugged coastline. Thank you Philip for such a memorable trip.

A great day out, and so glad we did it with Phil to benefit from his extensive knowledge of the area. A slight variation from the norm I think as one of the normal venues was closed, so had a lovely pub lunch at The Swan Hotel in Greytown, and dinner at the Union Square bistro at the Martinborough Hotel. In between was a trip around the south east coast to the end of the road at the Cape Palliser lighthouse. Views across Cook Strait to the Kaikoura Range, tractors lining the beach at Ngawi, wonderful views of the seals at their colony, all part of a very rewarding day! Thanks to Phil, and we'll be back.

Thanks for such a positive review. I guess not being able to pick one highlight because there were so many choices is a good thing! Great to have hosted you both for the day.

I really appreciated that Philip ran this 10 hour trip with just me along for the ride. The two wine tastings were wonderful and the lunch platter at Poppies was delicious. The chocolate stop was greatly appreciated! The drive around the coast was beautiful and I absolutely loved stopping to see the seals. I climbed the 253 steps to the lighthouse at Cape Palliser - well worth it for the view. Dinner at the Lake Ferry hotel was also delicious. Thank you Philip for a lovely day.

We had an amazing day out with Philip on the Wine and Wild Coast Tour. So many highlights of the day - from the incredible cheese, chocolate and wine tasting through to the stunning scenery, especially the seals. As Kiwis holidaying in our own country, we loved finding out about the history of the places we visited that we wouldn't of known if we self guided. Philip was super easy to get on with and really informative. Great communication from the first enquiry of the tour, and brilliant organisation as the day went so smoothly with all the activities we managed to pack in. Highly recommend this trip!

A full day tour, but full of variety. Visited sites I had driven past and would have missed again had they not been part of the tour (Rivendell for one) and the rest of the Kaitoki Regional Park.
Nice to be able to relax and enjoy the views on tricky roads.
The seals (or are they sea lions?) were awesome, but we were a bit puffed at the top of the Cape Palliser Lighthouse steps.
Philip knows the area and history well, and is able to enhance the experience. Great fun to travel with.

Philip was our tour guide and he went out of his way to show us an awesome tour. The wineries were very good and the Rose way better than we thought. The stop at the Olive turned out to be wonderful. Even a stop to see seals. But the best was yet to come with the Lighthouse.

This day trip was perhaps the neatest thing we did while in New Zealand. Highlights include beautiful views of the landscape at the stops listed in the itinerary; a visit to a seal colony (we saw tons of seals--a video would more accurately capture how many we saw); tastings at two wineries (we bought two bottles and were able to pack them in our checked luggage); lunch and dinner (a glass of wine included with both meals); a visit to a lighthouse that provided frame-worthy photos; and a visit to a cheese shop and a chocolate shop (we bought a few bars of local chocolate as souvenirs). Our guide, Phil, was professional, polite, and friendly, providing context for all the stops on the itinerary and ensuring our every need was met throughout the day. We highly recommend this tour for anybody visiting Wellington.
