    What to Expect
Start your full-day tour with hotel pickup by mini-coach in the morning. Your guide accompanies your small group to the world-renowned Museum of Wellington City & Sea, located in a historical building at the waterfront’s Jervois Quay.

Browse exhibits that describe Maori mythic figures, Wellington’s early European settlements, maritime history and 20th-century changes as your guide leads you through the highlights and leaves time for you to explore on your own.

Then hop inside a 4WD vehicle for the journey to Wellington’s wind-swept south coast. You’ll pass old Maori settlement sites, an active fault line and Terawhiti Station, crossing rugged headlands to reach Red Rocks Reserve near Owhiro Bay. Here, observe a colony of New Zealand fur seals basking on the rust-colored rocks. Your guide points out where the Tasman Sea collides with the Pacific Ocean. Peer out over Cook Strait and the Southern Alps in the distance on clear days.

Returning to Wellington, stop at a bistro cafe for an included lunch with views over Wellington Harbour.

Then visit the 60-acre (25-hectare) Wellington Botanic Garden, the only one in New Zealand solely dedicated to native plants. Follow your guide along pathways lined with native forest, plant and flower collections, and listen for birdlife such as tui and gray warbler.

Your informative full-day tour ends with a convenient drop-off at your hotel.

This trip is rugged but well worth the bumpy ride. We got to experience Tongue Point, home to the New Zealand fur seal colony. The coast line is impressive but the seals are even more so. They are huge! One gets to take pictures very...More

Hi Gayle, Very happy to hear you enjoyed yourself! The ride out can be quite bumpy, but that's all part of the experience of seeing these creatures in their natural habitat. Some of the seals can grow up to 2m and 150kg, so they're pretty...More

We were so pleasantly surprised with the totality of this tour. It included wonderful sightseeing of part of the city, huge wind farm (more interesting than you might think, including observing a sheep herd in our roadway on this huge working farm) and a very...More
