What a fantastic trip. From start to finish Steve was informative, entertaining and refreshingly enthusiastic about his topic. We’ve been on night trips before so expected the usual pot luck, maybe we will see something maybe not. But on this trip Steve showed us an array of amazing sights and not just the magical galaxy created by the glow worms. To top it off we finished the evening with a mug of his wife’s delicious chocolate and home made cookies. Steve dropped us back safely to our hotel just before midnight , tired but very contented! A must do trip if you’re visiting Rotorua!!!

Simply stunning. From the beginning of our adventure through to the end, Steve guided our group through the darkness, pointing out points of interest and educating us on the bush and its inhabitants. In the pitch black we reached the most beautiful cliff of glow worms, sparkling like stars. We were able to get up close and learn more about them. Delicious hot chocolate ended the night before the trip back to reality. I highly recommend this trip.

Prompt pickup at designated spot - clear instructions so no dithering about. Takes approx 30 minutes to the forest and Stephen pretty much talked all the way there and back with information about Rotorua and the natural history of the area. Speaks in a nice informal manner and able to answer questions easily.
Once we got there, is instructions were clear and relevant. A constant stream of information as we walked through the forest, passionate about what he does and this enthuses those around him.
Who knew there was was much to learn about glow worms? So it wasn't just the viewing of them but a whole environmental lesson at the same time,
Would very much recommend this trip, suitable for most abilities and ages. A couple of slightly uneven patches of path but nothing too difficult.

Randomly booked this in my living room in London several months ago, and tonight was the night!
Steve picked us up and whisked us off to a beautiful forest as dusk. We were greeted by a wallaby who was just there. I didn’t know what to expect, but it was truly wondrous, so many glow worms looking like stars in the sky and the lights on a Christmas tree all at once. We also saw a beautiful waterfall full of glow worms. Steve pointed out so much more too, wetas, spiders, and the amazing trees/vines/ferns of New Zealand.
On the way back to the car we spotted a possum and then it was wallaby central, literally loads hopping about.
I can’t recommend this tour & Steve enough.
We’ve also learnt so much about torches, which was invaluable advice.

The tour was excellent. Steve was a knowledgeable and entertaining guide who enthusiastically shared with us his love for the bush. His energy was undiminished throughout the evening, as he took us to see animals, ferns, trees, waterfalls, and glow worms. Hundreds of glow worms! What a sight! This tour was the highlight of our sixteen days in Australia and New Zealand.

This experience was FANTASTIC! It had been raining and I was regretting my decision to go, but when Steve picked me up, he was so positive, assuring me it would be great, then it rained even MORE! As we got closer, the rain stopped and we kept going deeper and deeper into the woods. I was getting a little nervous as it was so dark, but then Steve pointed out all of the incredible plants and told us about them....THEN we found the glowworms! It was one of the most magical things I have ever seen! Steve was very patient and even made pictures when my camera went wonky!
I highly recommend this trip with Steve! Do not hesitate to book!

Steve has thought of everything to make the glow worm experience unique and far from a canned and rote tourist tour. We had an evening unlike any other, traipsing through the bush in the well-lit night with the chance to see things otherwise missed by outsiders. He had gum boots and rain jackets for those of us without them, hot cocoa, and even emailed us links to photos he helped us set the stage for in the dark bush. Well done.

Stephen is an excellent guide and a true professional, we went in a larger group of 11 and he had no troubles guiding us. We enjoyed his tour immensely and would definitely recommend it to anybody who wants to learn more about glow worms or anybody who wants to see them up close.
The trek is accessible for all ages and we completed it without breaking a sweat!

Stephen shares his experience via this nocturnal hiking experience and it was a very very enjoyable experience. He manages the hike at a very good pace and provides a very up close experience to the nature in NZ. It is an unforgettable experience. The photos that he helps to take are also unreal!

Apologies for the delayed response. The track is a little uneven in parts but Stephen made sure one was safe be giving a forewarning. I am relatively fit with arthritic knees and managed it. Stephen is very solicitous

I think it varies at different times of year depending on nightfall since it is a nocturnal tour so it must be dark.

Will this tour be suitable for family with children?
Children be age 12 and 7.
Duration 3 hours should be fine with them pending departure and return timing.
The boys be super excited with torches at night exploring.

When we tried to check availability on 9/9 for 2 seniors, the site errored with requiring 1 to 11 travelers. Is that a problem with the site? Is the price different for seniors? Thanks, Ted

Sorry you have trouble. I don’t know about a senior price. One of us was a senior when we took the tour, but that person paid the same price as everyone else. Have you tried to email the tour operator yet? We did communicate via email with him prior to our tour, and he responded as quickly as his schedule allowed. He offers other tours so he’s busy in the daytime with customers, but he replied to each of our emails when he could. Happy travels!
