- melissapeteevans0 contributionsLoved it!This was a great experience, and I would highly recommend it. We enjoyed: the journey on the four-wheel drive track through the bush, seeing the great split in the earth due to the 1886 eruption, walking/sliding down the scoria slopes of the mountain and hearing the history of the place from the guides.Written September 22, 2024
- Katiej25070 contributionsAmazing! We loved every minute up on the crater! Views and scenery are amazing, the walk isn't super long but has some steep sections up and down but 100% worth it! The scree run looks scary but once you get going it's a lot of fun! Lots of information about the culture and rocks in the crater. We would definitely recommend this tour. Thank you 😊Written September 22, 2024
- ericahui980 contributionsUnbelievable amazing experienceMy husband and I had no idea what we were going into. We did it anyway, and…. It’s absolutely a blast!!! We both love water sports and excitement. Sledging gives them all to you. However I don’t think I can do without our guides SAM and Coruso. They both were very helpful and caring. We felt very safe with them in the rapids. I cannot rave enough of Sam, the super energized guy. He is overloaded with energy. He has fun in the water and he makes sure everyone feel the same. We did it on Sep 8th, which was my 60th birthday. We were at NZ to celebrate the special day. Sam definitely made this my most memorable birthday celebration. Thank you Sam! I know you are just doing your obligation, but you don’t know how much your extra steps meant to me. Thanks again and I hope to be back for more celebrations 😊Written September 13, 2024
- AfricanCamps0 contributionsA Beautiful ClimbIt was a tough climb for me but the views and sites were always interesting. Owner Jason and guide Rangiora were fun, nice, and compassionate. Never in a rush and always considerate of those at the rear. It was actually worthwhile even though I'm not a hiking/climbing aficionado.Written June 14, 2024

- triniboyinNZ0 contributionsThrilling - A big shout out!A group of international students had the experience to phone home about. While the weather was not great, the guides made up for an invigorating, informative and richly rewarding hike up, around and into the crater. Wish I could name them all but shout out to Jason and Anahera. Highly recommend!Written May 9, 2024
- 458chrisd0 contributionsModerately challenging, but fun and informative. Overall great experience. This is a short but exhilarating hike. Short in the sense of total distance travelled, but it's a good amount of time on the mountain. Our guides, Anahera and Caprice, were great and provided us with lots of information about the mountain, the surrounding land, their history, and their people. While this hike is suitable for most ages and skill levels, you should have a moderate level of fitness to do it. There are a few areas that are fairly vertical, both hiking up and hiking down, which could be difficult for people who aren't used to hiking or who have issues affecting their mobility. Overall, if you like to hike and want to see a beautiful volcanic crater with lots of awesome views, I'd definitely recommend letting this team take you up Mt. Tarawera.Written April 25, 2024

- PforP0 contributionsAwesome walk inside volcano craterParts of this walk looked a bit daunting to some in the group. The guides, who had a wonderful sense of humour, were excellent at encouraging and supporting them - everyone completed the walk, no problems. This was a marvellous experience on a day when you could see clearly to Ruapehu and White Island. Awesome!Written April 6, 2024
- Maps056483263300 contributionsMt. Tarawera Volcanic Guided Hike Experience - A Must Do in Rotorua! If you're looking for something unique to do in the beautiful Rotorua area, I would recommend this! You can only make your way up Tarawera with the permission of the local hapū who work alongside Kaitiaki Adventures. Money from doing this also goes back to the local hapū as well as conservation projects for maintaining Tarawera. The hike was only a couple of hours because we took our time and ate our lunch in the crater of the volcano once we had fun sliding down the scree. It was a totally manageable hike as well - enough to make you work up a sweat but not hard enough to be off putting. One of the women in our tour group was 70 year's old and led from the front with our awesome guide, Jack, who not only knew where all the good photo/video spots were but who educated us along the way by sharing significant facts re: the volcano, the area as well as local peoples and their histories etc: again, if you're looking for something unique to do in the beautiful Rotorua area, I would most definitely recommend this!Written March 30, 2024

We booked the rafting adventure as an excursion through our cruise ship. All the guides were very friendly and helpful. All the gear provided was in good shape and the guides gave a thorough briefing. Being inexperienced and older, I was apprehensive about doing the 7M Falls, but our guide was very supportive and I am so glad I did it. Even though our raft did overturn going over the 7M Falls, the guides got us all back in the raft safely. The rafting trip was very scenic. Photos were taken along the way and offered for sale after the trip. Also light refreshments were offered after the rafting trip. I would definitely recommend Kaitiaki Adventures.

As a family we have used Kaitiaki Adventures twice. The first time was for our daughter and group of her girl friends, who loved it so much we decided to do it ourselves during our visit to Rotorua. The guilds are very professional, but down to earth and make the whole experience relaxed and fun. From start to finish everyone we encountered was friendly and welcoming. The suits are top quality and thermal underneath to ensure you wont experience any coldness which could put a dampener on your experience, so warm and cozy the whole time. Amazing photos are taken throughout, capturing your epic journey along the river and down the waterfalls. Everyone is given plenty of opportunities to make the most out of the rafting trip - and your certainly wont be disappointed with these guys. Even the dogs are super entertaining and friendly :)

We went in March for the afternoon white water rafting trip and it was great fun. The guides have great banter, and are so skilful at manoeuvring the rafts. They got our raft to do heaps of cool tricks and things like dunking the front end, and going up on its side (won’t reveal any more so it’s still a surprise 😉). I’ve been rafting a few times and never done stuff like that so it was pretty awesome! My only complaints are that it’d be cool if they had warm showers at the base camp for afterwards, and I wish it was longer!! The big drop was exhilarating. Thanks so much to Finn for his expert guiding, and the rest of the team for a great arvo. Best of luck over the next few months guys, hang in there! Highly recommend to anyone considering!!

We had the time of our lives, my son and I had an amazing experience. Its times like this this that matters in life making memories. I waited 20 years for this and for my son to be old enough. I can see my son had a good time because every time he looks at the photos taken by the team there is a big smile on his face. Jackie our guide made it extra special for us with out it being obvious but I could pick it up, she got injured a bit on the 7m waterfall ( sorry Jackie for having to buy beers for the guys ha ha) and I would like to give a big shout out to her, she is very proficient in what she does and has a great personality to back that up. The rest of the team did an amazing job to support Jackie in keeping us save and intertained. See you next time.

Wow what a great experience! Such a great team and great adventure. Get ready to have heaps of fun and a exhilarating activity. The team was hilarious and engaging. Boppa was great fun and explained things in a plain, simple and easy to understand way. Drax was always cracking jokes while explaining how to keep us safe and maximizing fun. Hayley was great company and helped us all along the way. Frank took a lot of awesome photos. Jess was so warm and lovely. The whole team accommodated us so well and enhanced the experience with a lot of awesome insights and connection with the local tribe. Before we went out there were safety talks and along the way. Once we were in the raft we got to work practicing all the different holds to keep us in the raft and the paddling synchronization. There were some crazy rapids and a few waterfalls. It was a great experience leaving you wanting more! Overall I could not recommend this experience more. We would definitely go again.
Thank you team for a great experience

Kaitiaki team was amazing!!! Seriously I will highly recommend the fantastic team, Hemi Ben and Jess 'THE BEST'. They made it easy and fun for us, from the beginning of the tour till the end we spent our days laughing. The adrenaline rush was epic!! The feeling of going down one of the worlds epic largest waterfalls was incredible - Kaituna River at Tutea 7meters fall is known to be dangerous. Still, with the Kaitiaki team experience, it became fearless..laid-back, pleasant and easy-going. More importantly, there was never a dull moment with them. Suppose you want to have an epic adventure book with Kaitiaki. The pictures are astounding!! Thanks to the excellent photographer Jackson. It appears the team are highly trained and experienced. The boys helped us put on the correct size helmets and safe gears before the rafting. They also explained the safety instructions clearly in the beginning and on multiple occasions. You can tell that the boys had incredible techniques in the river that kept us safe, and we were not hurt or thrown out of the boat at any time. However, there were times when we were allowed to and had a bit of fun and swimming. So much fun and laughter!!! I will be back with my friends and whanau.Thank you so much, Kaitiaki team, once again, for a fantastic experience and a perfect holiday😀

I have been all around the world and this company is one of the best tour companies I have been with! Even before the tour, they were quick, responsive, and accommodating to my questions and request about drop off. In addition, a portion of their proceeds goes towards nature conservation! All the employees I have met are passionate about adventure and nature. You can't beat that!
I went on both the Mt. Tarawera volcanic crater tour and whitewater rafting tour in the same day. My guides on the mountain were Tiakiawa and Rangiora. It was special since they were both Māori, guiding us through their sacred mountain. Only this tour company has permission to run this tour because they obtain approval from the tribes who own the land. The guides ensured our safety and really wanted us to have a great time.Rangiora is also a Mitai Maori performer and cares about sharing his culture. The volcano was amazing and has beautiful colors. I recommend going on a sunny day so the views won't be blocked my clouds/fog. Once in a lifetime experience nonetheless!
An hour after drop off, Tiakiawa picked me up again for the whitewater rafting. In addition to being my ride for both tours, my guide in the mountain, Tiakiawa was also my photographer for white water rafting! She also told me she had 2 mountain tours the next day! This girl is amazing and needs a raise! Her photographs were amazing and far exceeded expectations. I highly recommend asking for her to take your photos (see whitewater pics). White water rafting was great. Nick was our guide and he knows fun tricks on the boat and great photo ops. He really cares about safety-he keeps hitting my and a few others' helmets on our heads with a paddle because we would forget some steps/directions. It's for safety issues and because I was also paddling the wrong way but hitting people Nick!
Other than that great guide and I would ask for him if you want an extra good time in the water.
I highly recommend this company and all their tours! I would definitely go with them again!

If you are going to pay to raft in the Rotorua area, use this company (read on).
We rafted the Kaituna river - an absolutely magical location. This is not to be understated given the deep history of battle over the region. The rocks surrounding the water are grave sites for Māori warriors, as is the largest waterfall that is descended.
This company ensures to pay respect to Māori culture, educating all rafters on the history of the region, paying respect to this sacred site. It is the ONLY company that has sought and received permission to raft through this area. This should be explicitly mentioned. The company works with the Māori to ensure the rafting tours are completed respectfully.
If the fact that this is the *only* company with explicit permission to navigate these truly sacred waters is not enough to encourage you to use them, the guides are also phenomenal and the price is right.
We rafted with Ben and it was truly a pleasure, though all of the guides and experienced and kind. At no point did I feel unsafe navigating level 5 rapids. The safety and professionalism of the team made for an incredible experience.
These are some absolutely beautiful people - I could not have asked for a better rafting experience.

we were there on 2nd of january for 2:30 bookings.
we went in group of 11 of us, planning that we will all be together to enjoy the life time experience, 1st mistake they made that they split us in 3 boats which ruined the experience, 2nd mistake the trip was really short we were told that it was an 3 hours experience it was only 45 minutes max. 3rd mistake they made was that our booking was for around 2:30 pm we never sat on the raft till 3:40, we waited in the room for too long for other crowd. it was disappointing, i had been last year in may with rotorua rafting which was much better than this crowd.
rotorua rafting people gave us an amazing experience to remember i had people from oz and they loved it. the rafter explained us really well in both the places but we had lot more fun in water with rotorua rafting then you guys. really not happy about it.
one of our guys went on other raft said that the trainer was really biased with girls and the boys were kind of ignore, i found that little bit on my raft as well. who doesnt like to be around girls but you cannot ignored the boys when you are running a business. we only had 2 girls on our raft but the trainer was a girl and she was kind of too nice with the girls they got the front seat, first preference in everything that we did on water.

Kia Ora Zapresh,
Thank you for taking the time to place feedback, although negative we can only learn from this and get better! As a few members of your crew (that didn't come rafting with you last time) could not swim, the Trip leader put safety first and dispersed the group over the guides in order to ensure each of your friends had their own guide to re-assure and assist them at an arms length through-out the experience. The advertised rafting is a 3 hr 'round' trip which consists of shuttle/training/gearing and river time, we would love to make the river longer but we pop out just before the non-commercial part of the river.
We have had a full staff briefing with the staff about the concerns raised by your friend. Our aim is to always include everyone on the boat as a part of our values of Whanaungatanga, so we sincerely apologise he came away feeling like this.
Thank you again for your constructive criticism, we have taken this on-board! We do hope that you enjoyed the rest of your weekend away with your friends!
