A Geothermal Adventure: Exploring New Zealand's North Island with FlexiToursNZ
Visiting New Zealand's North Island was a dream come true for me, especially with its unique blend of volcanic landscapes and rich Māori culture. To make the most of my trip, I embarked on the Rotorua Day Trip from Auckland with FlexiToursNZ, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience that combined natural wonders and cultural insights. The day began with the promise of geothermal wonders, and Te Puia did not disappoint. Nestled within the heart of a volcanic valley, this haven boasts the Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute, a Kiwi Conservation Centre, and a mesmerizing view of the Te Whakarewarewa Thermal Valley. As I wandered through this captivating landscape, I was treated to the sight of skilled artisans crafting intricate wood carvings and weaving flax creations. The chance encounter with a shy Kiwi in the conservation centre was an absolute highlight, offering a glimpse into New Zealand's unique wildlife. To finish off there are the wonderous views of erupting geysers, dramatic landscapes, and mud pools. The journey continued to Wai-O-Tapu, a geothermal reserve that truly felt like stepping into another world. The well-maintained trails led me through a surreal panorama of sulfur-colored ponds and bubbling mud pools, a testament to the raw power of nature. With two out of the three trails covered, I was able to appreciate the striking beauty of the Taupo Volcanic Zone. The main trail was even wheelchair-accessible trail for a fully immersive experience. The gift shop, with its distinctive offerings, was a delightful end to the trail exploration. FlexiToursNZ played an integral role in making this adventure seamless and enjoyable. Their attentive service began with a pick-up from my hotel, a convenient option that saved both time and hassle. This additional service cost less than if I would have hired a taxi. The journey to Rotorua was made comfortable in a well-organized tour bus, and once we arrived, our small group was divided for the day's activities. Rebecca, our guide, ensured we had ample time to explore Te Puia and indulge in a satisfying lunch. At Wai-O-Tapu, Ana's local expertise enriched the experience, offering intriguing insights into the region's geological marvels. As the day came to an end our tour bus took me back to the same drop off point as the morning where Andy, the provided driver, safely transported me back to my hotel, allowing me to relish the memories of an eventful day over a delicious dinner back at the hotel. The convenience and professionalism of FlexiToursNZ truly enhanced my travel experience, and I couldn't have asked for a more well-rounded exploration of New Zealand's North Island. In conclusion, my Rotorua Day Trip with FlexiToursNZ was an exceptional journey that seamlessly combined geothermal wonders, Māori cultural immersion, and top-notch service. For anyone seeking an authentic and captivating adventure in New Zealand, this day trip is an absolute must. The North Island's geothermal landscapes and FlexiToursNZ's expertly curated experience have left an indelible mark on my travel memories.

    Great Experience
The views were amazing. Hobbiton was amazing. We also visited Rotorua, that could've been a day on its own, with so much to do. The Waitomo Glow worm caves were interesting, though I wish the boat ride would have been a bit longer. Overall it was a fun trip and our driver was great!

    Fantastic Tour!
This was such a wonderful experience! I had Louise as my guide and she was filled with so much knowledge. She was very considerate and helpful during the entire journey. I’ve always been fascinated by Māori culture and the beauty of NZ which has been fueled even more after this trip. Great service and I felt well cared for! Can’t wait to go on another tour when I visit again.

    Wonderful trips in New zealand
I did two trips with the, the hobbiton evening banquet tour and 2 caves, cant remember the name of the first cave we visited but the second was the spellbound glow worm cave and both trips were fantastic. The tuor guides were extremely knowledgeable about new Zealand and very friendly. If you book with these guys you'll have a great time!

A lot of good, but some not-so-good
This tour ended up being a mix for us. On one hand, our three drivers (Edson, Dallas, and Keith) over two days were very friendly and accommodating, the Waitomo Caves tour, Hobbiton tour, and free time around Rotorua were all amazing. On the other, you could tell that the central organizers of logistics were not on their game for us. We were picked up a little after 6:30am on June 30th after being told to be be ready to go by 6:30am. From there, our first driver told us we were already running behind, as my wife and I were going to be handed off to another driver in Matamata to go to Waitomo caves, then back to Te Puia for lunch. It seems like us being behind 30 minutes was because of the rendezvous so far East, only to have to go all the way back West to the caves, then back East again. As a result, we were a little rushed at the Caves (though the tour was still great and we had enough time to buy our photos and a magnet), but very rushed to eat lunch at Te Puia (we had about 25 minutes to eat at the buffet before heading on the walking tour). The Te Puia tour was pretty cool. We learned about Maori culture, saw Kiwi birds, steam vents, crafts being created as part of the Maori school, and the food at the buffet lunch was also pretty good. From there, we were taken to our JetPark hotel to settle in before being picked up to go to the Mitai Maori village for a traditional Hangi meal and cultural show. Think luau, but the Maori version. The show was really well done, starting with the war canoe river intro, followed by the enclosed chief welcome, and then various dances and songs that were interesting and fun. We really enjoyed that. Then we were brought back into the food hall to have the buffet food, which was largely like a Thanksgiving variation with chicken, lamb, roasted potatoes and veggies, fish chowder, bread, some salad, gravy, and then dessert later (Pavlova, chocolate cake, hot vanilla custard, coffee, tea). There was also a paid bar with wine, beer, and spirits, but because dinner was so late and whirlwind with the buffet, don't plan on having too many drinks. Following that we had the Q&A, which was interesting, and then a pointless walk in the rain back down to the river and up to the buses to allegedly see glowworms, but without umbrellas (they ran out) and pouring rain, we didn't see any and just tried to avoid getting super soaked. After that, we were driven back to our hotel for a terrible night because the Air Conditioning ended up pumping hot, sulfurous (because of the nearby sulfur steam vents) air into the room despite being set to 16 degrees. We woke up at midnight to the hot, smelly room and just turned off the unit until it cooled down because none of the windows opened and obviously messing with the controller wasn't going to do anything. Our itinerary for the next day said to be ready after breakfast (continental, pretty unimpressie) by 7:30am, so we were, but we ended up getting picked up at around 8am to head to Hobbiton (an extra 30 minutes to sleep and pack up would have been nice). There we arrived early, in time for the 9:40am tour, so we had a creme-filled cronut and latte while we waited to queue up for the tour. From there, we were bused to Hobbiton and had a beautiful tour of The Shire, sunny and cool, ending with a tasty beer at The Green Dragon. Loved it. After that, Keith said we could do whatever we wanted until we needed to get to the Rotorua airport at 3pm for our flight to Wellington. We thought there would be more of an itinerary, but he recommended a locals-known sandwich place called Ciabatta for lunch (very tasty), followed by us selecting to take the skyline/gondola up a nearby mountain to take in some views and do a wine tasting at the Volcanic Winery tasting room. That was awesome, and then we made our way down the mountain and were ushered to the airport for drop-off. All in all, it was a nice tour, but the logistics issues with running late, being rushed, getting picked up at different times than designated in the itinerary, a hotel room without working Air Conditioning, etc. did put a damper on the experience.

    First class tour company!
I highly recommend Flexi tours as the tour company to use while booking tours in and around Auckland. We are from the US and had a bunch of questions and their employees answered them all before our tour. Pickup was smooth and right in front of our hotel and their Mercedes Benz van was plush and comfortable, which was appreciated because we took three tours which totaled 13 hours. Our driver, Dirk, was professional, but also a guy that was approachable and knew a lot about the sights we were seeing. Thanks for a great day!

Wonderful Tour and Value for money
Had a wonderful trip today with our tour guide Louise and met some great people. The tour is value for money and the bonus is that you get driven around. The tours were great and we got to see the beautiful NZ country side. The lunch is a wonderful experience also.

Long day but totally worth it.
Before you go, know that this will be a long day, 13 hours with much of it spent in a van. But our driver, Dirk, was excellent in explaining everything and because of his knowledge of local short cuts, we avoided sitting in a traffic jam in the expressway. He also was more than willing to answer my questions and as a result I learned a lot about Nee Zealand. The van, a Mercedes, was very comfortable and easy to get in and out of. The two tours (Hobbiton and the Waitomo glow worm caves were excellent. Lunch in Rotorua was superb. We have been on several tours around the world and they usually take you to some local place where they can get a kickback and the food is awful. Not on this tour. The buffet lunch came with a view of the Pohutu geyser and we got to see it erupt. The food was delicious and plentiful and is included in the price of the tour. If you only have a limited amount of time on the North Island and want to maximize your experiences, this is the tour to take.

    Trip to Hobbiton
We loved the experience! As a Lord of the Rings fan it was awesome to be there at the site and to feel as if we were in the Shire! We also delighted in the Waitomo Caves and had a wonderful view of the countryside while getting there. Our guide Louise was charming and gave us lots of information, we learned a lot about the Maori culture. She was also very professional in getting us all lunch and alternatives for future sightseeing. Fully recommended!

Topnotch Day Trip from Auckland to Hobbiton
This tour was professional and well done. Our driver/host was personable and friendly. Pickup was on time & the tour bus was “as described” in the adverts. Our host was familiar with the Hobbiton staff & their policies/procedures, which was very helpful. We were provided a scenic route back, off the beaten path, based on traffic conditions. Of course, Hobbiton was a wonderful experience, a must-do for LOTR fans which provides insight into how the films were produced. Remember, this is a movie set, not a theme park. I recommend using the services of FlexiToursNZ.

    Awesome day trip!
My sister and I loved this trip! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and was very on point with timing and getting us everywhere! We opted for the concert to learn about the Maori culture and it was money well spent. The whole trip was a great learning experience and absolutely beautiful. If you're looking for a full day with both culture and the beauty of nature, I can't recommend this trip enough! It's a bit of a drive but the van was very comfortable and our guide kept us informed :)

    Fun Day trip
Great trip with Michelle. It is a small Group. She is extremely knowledgeable, fun and caring. The entire trip Is good but Rotorua is kinda boring. The glow worm caves is ok so-so. No Wow factor. Guess fun part is the boat ride to see glow worm. The cave is actually small to my surprise. Hobbiton is very fun. Lots to do for those who love to take photos. Just wish I could actually stay 1 night there

First of all I want to say a huge thank you for my successful engagement proposal to my long time partner at Hobbiton. Without Philippa and Andy I think I will not able to pull it off. Overall experience was great. From Philippa who is our main contact arranging the tour she was very responsive and because of that it was a hassle free bookings with them, she did also gave us a vip ride since it is only the two of us who were doing the trip which is very convinient. Andy who is our driver and tour guide, he was very accomodating and very positive. He was telling us some stories while we our on our way to the trip and he is very knowledgeable about the places. He even accompanied us and took some shots by using his own camera especially when I was doing the proposal. He also made sure that the proposal would be smooth. I really can't thank him enough. I would really recommend flexi tours.

It was a fantastic tour! Hobbiton and Spellbound caves were incredible and a must have for any tourist or local. Our guide and driver, Dallas, was great as well - very informative and so very patient. He even showed us the best places for dinner and gave ideas for walks and activities for the rest of our holiday. Would recommend this company and tour.

Dallas has been with us for many years and we love the number of people who enjoy being on tour with him. Tours from Rotorua are such a good idea right now as there is no public transport to most destinations like Hobbiton or Waitomo
