About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Bogden560 contributionsGreat day learning about Aukland and the surrounding coastal area!Karthik was tremendously knowledgeable, not only about the city of Aukland, but about the entire country and its history. The van was very comfortable, and Karthik used a head set which allowed us to easily hear him even from the back seat. We covered most of the city and had plenty of opportunity to take photos from stunning viewpoints. The 2nd half of the tour included visits to two wineries and the black beach. The lunch that was provided as part of the tour was amazing! I highly recommend using Experience Kart for one of your New Zealand tours.Written February 8, 2025
- sorinp090 contributionsGreat day at the beachThis was a great tour. Both beaches were amazing. We loved the nature and the scenery at the Cathedral cove. Karthik gave us all the details about the area and its history. The timing was perfect, so we get the best experience depending on tides.Written February 2, 2025
- KathleenH13000 contributionsNew Zealand- EXPERIENCE KART tour operator in North IslandWithout a doubt one of the best trips was to New Zealand. In the North Island, I opted for guided tours by EXPERIENCE KART for both private and small group tours which included pick-up from Auckland. And I am so happy I went with this smaller company run by Karith and Vee, an exceptional and lovely husband and wife team! I Immediately received replies within the hour or two to any of my emails relating to booking and or questions regarding any of their tours even if it was late in the evening. In my experience, most companies I’ve dealt with, I do not hear back until the next day or two. Going with smaller company like EXPERIENCE KART made sense to me because from them, I received the care and attentiveness in meeting my expectation and needs. (I feel bigger companies care more about meeting sales quotas rather than individual clients). My tour guides included Karith and Mary and others for my private and small group tours. I was greeted with a warm friendly welcome and for every tour, a bag of goodies were given to everyone on board which included bottled water and various snacks made by local companies. Very thoughtful gesture, I thought. Unlike my experience with other big tour operators, Experience Kart is flexible in that they will make extra stops for bathrooms whenever needed as well as stopping for coffee/snacks etc. In one of the private tours I booked with Karith, after realizing that we would arrive much earlier than the appointed time for the Te Pa Tu evening Maori culture experience, he made a detour and drove through lush farmlands and even stopped briefly at Agrodome where I saw ostriches, goats and sheeps. If you are looking for maori experience, I highly recommend the all evening Te Pa Tu tour for full maori immersion which involves some interactive participation. I also enjoyed the Geothermal Park with Mary and stopping by the Huka Honey Hive to learn about manuka honey. There you can taste different grades of manuka honey which has antibiotic properties. Because Mary is of maori descent, she made a drive-by detour to one of the maori villages to show us what typical maori homes look like and shared many things about the culture and history of her people. I appreciated the care and attention Mary showed me to include and share her maori heritage even though it was not included in the itinerary. I also booked other tours with Experience Kart including Hobbiton, Bay of Islands, horseback riding and the Waitomo and Ruakuri caves which were all a wonderful experience for me. Thank you, Karith and Mary!!Written February 2, 2025
- oktrp0 contributionsHobbiton and Waitomo with MartyMarty our tour guide was awesome. He would take different routes to showcase beauty of north island, enhancing our experience. He's knowledgable and would be happy to share experience on dairy industry in NZ.Written January 21, 2025
- CamD D0 contributionsA culturally enriching Māori experienceI wasn’t sure what to expect from this experience, but it greatly exceeded all our hopes. This is not for the faint hearted as you are welcomed by the fearsome Māori warriors upon arrival. Once you survive the greeting it becomes evident this is an incredibly talented family. It’s an immersive experience whereby you take part in games, sports, foods and finally get to practice the Haka yourself. Not quite as easy as it looks :) There’s a great mix of culture, fun and plenty of laughs. The final performance of the Haka up close and personal delivers the intimidation as seen on the rugby field. It is awesome to watch live. Dinner in the dining hall is delivered in multiple courses of foods cooked the traditional way, and it’s excessive so don’t eat for 24 hours prior! This is a family clearly very proud of their culture and what they do here. The Chiefs daughter is a serious talent, and we couldn’t have been more impressed by how professional and enjoyable the evening was. This experience is worth travelling to Rotorua on its own for. Thanks to everyone for a fantastic night and experience 🙏🏻Written January 10, 2025
- mkushnir0 contributionsThis is a must do if you are in Auckland! My husband and I went on the private tour from Auckland of the Te Pa Tu Cultural Experience. It was absolutely incredible! The experience was educational, enlightening and so enjoyable. The food was also amazing - so good and so much of it! If you want to learn about the Māori people and culture, this is the place to do it for sure. Our driver and guide, Karthik, was also incredible. This is a very long day - about 11 hours, and he kept us entertained and enlightened with so much history, culture, details of plants, geology, just about everything you could ever want to know about the area. We really loved our time with Karthik and highly recommend him to anyone coming to the area!Written January 9, 2025
- kolleenp0 contributionsMāori culture option for Auckland visitorVisiting Māori culture center was important to me so I was happy to have the option to private transfer from Auckland to Rotorua, back to Auckland. Karthik was a great guide to have with me. He was courteous, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. This cultural experience includes dance performance and educational info. Other attendees shared that they preferred this experience because it was more interactive versus other options they had attended. Thank you for hosting me.Written January 8, 2025

- Meagan B0 contributionsNorth Island NZ holiday. Ticking items off my bucket listI cannot rave enough about this tour. The experience is out of this world. Our guides were George & Rebekah (I don’t think I spelt that right) They both were friendly, engaging, knowledgable and most importantly made us feel very safe. Floating in the dark, with glow worms above our heads and George singing, was mesmerising. Yes, the water was cold.Written November 19, 2024

First, Karthik was an excellent guide. We were picked up promptly at our hotel, and were provided a snack bag and water. He was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of info. As we were lucky to be on a tour with just 4 ppl total, we asked a lot of questions as well.
As far as the attractions - after researching various options we chose a combo of the Ruakuri and main glowworm cave. The Ruakuri was more interesting as we got to see more of the cave. I definitely recommend doing more than just the main glowworm cave - that itself is very brief. Although the glowworms are cool, it’s not worth the 3 hour drive from Auckland to just do a quick spin in a boat. If I were to plan myself based on what I know now, I’d do all 3 of the caves and stop at the Kiwi farm nearby, but as a first visit I’m happy with what we saw.
Overall very happy with the tour.

Kia ora Stefani & Bob,
Thank you so much for your lovely review of your travel experience with ExperienceKart. It is wonderful to hear that you both enjoyed the beautiful caves at Waitomo and we are extremely humbled reading your comments about our guide Karthik and made the most your time at Waitomo. The third cave is the Aranui caves (operates Fri/Sat/Sun only at present) and hopefully when you come back you are able to make another visit!
Wishing you safe travels and kindest regards!

My boyfriend and I took this day trip with Experience Kart to the Waitomo Glowworm and Ruakuri Twin Cave. We have been driving all around the North Island and wanted to give my boyfriend a break from driving. The pickup and drop off from our hotel in central Auckland was smooth and the drive to the cave was relaxing in the van. Our driver and tour guide, Karthik, gave a great tour with fun little tidbits of New Zealand.
The glowworm cave itself was amazing, but the addition of the Ruakuri Cave made the drive worth it. I would recommend this tour company to anybody who wants to see the cool sights of New Zealand, but is weary about driving all the time.

This was a great experience! Our guide, Ama was so wonderful! She arrived promptly and was warm and welcoming. She shared lots of interesting information about the Māori culture and area as we travelled to the caves. We were given a lovely goodie bag when we settled in the car that contained a bottle of water (and there was more available onboard), cookies, tissues, snacks and a local favorite - L & P. The car was very comfortable and had onboard WiFi. Regarding the cave adventure, the Ruakuri was very informative and interesting. We learned alot and the guide was informative and helpful answering many, many questions. He also allowed ample time for pictures. The Waitomo Glowworm tour was much more touristy. The experience in the cave was very brief. The experience on the boat staring up at all the glowworms was amazing.
After the caves, we stopped at The Thirsty Weta Bar in Otorohanga and it was delicious!
Overall, it was a great day.

A very convenient and well-priced tour to check out the Waitomo Glowworm Caves from Auckland. We had a great experience. Not only the convenience of being picked up and dropped off at your accomodation, but also had a very accomodating guide with a lot of local knowledge too. I would recommend this company to anybody visiting Auckland. 👍

The both tours were excellent. While the Waitomo Glowworm cave had you riding in a boat through part of the cave, however, I liked the Ruakuri Cave tour better. We saw alot more while hiking through the Ruakuri Cave tour. Both were narrated by knowledgeable docents. Due to cave darkness, you had to slow the shutter down to pick up the faint light. None of my cave pictures turned out from Waitomo Cave.
A tripod would have helped produce clearer pictures.
That is where the hiking was better since you could stop and set your camera on a stable surface for the pictures.
