Wow. What a fabulous half day tour!
I booked the Hobbiton Tour from Auckland CBD online with a couple of days notice. I was contacted the day before confirming pick up time and location, and on the day itself my driver and guide, Peter, was waiting outside ahead of time for me.
It’s about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Auckland to Hobbiton in the comfortable, air-conditioned Mercedes passenger van and the drive is spectacular. Peter had water for us in the van but we stopped off en-route for coffee, a bathroom breaks and to stretch our legs before continuing on to Hobbiton.
Peter was incredibly friendly and full of fascinating information about Auckland and it’s surrounding area on our drive. Upon arriving at Hobbiton he sorted out our entrance and explained a little about what the tour includes before handing us off to the Hobbiton staff for our 09:10 tour.
The tour is roughly 2 hours and Peter looked after any belongings you didn’t want to take on the meander around the film set. After it’s complete you have time for a bite to eat in the cafe or look around the shop and it’s back in the van for the return journey to Auckland where you’re dropped off at the door.
I knew I wanted to visit Hobbiton on my short stay in Auckland so I visited their website and it links to several tour operators who provide half day tours and more. Auckland & Beyond caught my eye and I cannot rate them highly enough. I will definitely be using them on my next visit to explore more of what the North Island has to offer. You will not be disappointed. Huge thanks to Auckland & Beyond and especially Peter!

Our tour guide, Warren (Wazza), was incredibly knowledgeable about the local areas that we passed through on the way and kept the group entertained with his humour. He was very good at explaining exactly what to expect once we arrived at the location and kept everything running smoothly. The minibus was very comfortable and had air conditioning and WiFi on board, as well as snacks.
There are quite a few companies doing tours like this so it can be difficult to know which ones are good and also value for money. I would definitely recommend this company as they easily ticked both of these boxes for me. You will not be disappointed!

Hobbiton is magical place, our driver Paolo was prompt friendly and professional, it was a very early start,water and snacks provided. Booking process was easy and contact made the afternoon before to confirm pick up location and time.
My only gripe is they filled the van completely, was a bit cramped especially for a 2hr drive. For the price paid expected a bit more comfort

Collected on time from hotel at 6.15 am . It’s a 2 hour journey to Hobbitt land in a full mini bus with 20 passengers . Visit to Hobbitt land was brilliant and great tour guide Kieran at site . Only drawback was air con and microphone speaker on mini bus not working so no info going to or returning from tour . The bus was full and hot so uncomfortable journey back to Auckland . Roscoe the driver apologised but the company should ensure fully operational before going out on tour .

Our driver Chris was awesome, lots of info and history also taught us Moari. Highly recommend using Auckland & Beyound Tours - always kept up to date and all staff I felt with were helpful. The tour at Hobbiton was good and worth doing.

Wonderful trip to Hobbiton with Paolo ( our Italian/NZ) guide. I was able to book with the concierge at Sky City ( thank you Aiden) the day before as there was 1 seat available.
The early start (6AM) put us there at the perfect time and Paolo discussed NZ facts all along the way which I really enjoyed! I had hoped to combine with Waitomo but I didn't have the time. Pickup at Sky City was convenient and the ride down was in a very comfortable Mercedes van.
Bring a jacket so the van can stay cool for those of us who like it that way. A lot easier to make yourself warm than cool off!

We booked with Auckland & Beyond Tours for 3 people to go to Hobbiton Movie set.We were picked up on time in Auckland City.The van was good nice and clean we also had masks,gloves and wipes provided in a bag was an excellent touch. John was an excellent host and we had an enjoyable trip to Matamata.John stopped for a picture stop and provided us with snacks & water .When we arrived John took care of tickets and informed us what was going to happen & where to meet him later.
The tour was very good beautiful sunny day,it very hot though.It was a great experience thank you to John and the Team doing the bookings.

It was a great experience! Our driver Peter is very kind, is very communicative and gave us interesting tidbits about NZ during the drive to Hobbiton :) Once we got there we joined up with a bigger group for the movie set tour. The set is beautiful but the commentary and stories from the tour guide that goes it is what makes it all the more fun! All in all a very pleasant experience!

Our dya trip yesterday worthed every dollar! Paul, our driver and guide is very nice and kind. He was punctual with the schedule, all the way from AKL till Hobbintown he was explaining us about the local geography, culture, history and recent aspects. It was a lovely day!

Warren is an absolute legend. Great tour guide and leader. Im writing this review with the complimentary wifi on board, we are all able to to send our photos to loved ones and friends straight away and even able to charge our phones while looking through the great memories made today at hobbiton with the usb charging on board. The complimentary snacks and water was a great touch, the comfortable leather (lazy boy like) seats were so enjoyable with the snacks. To finish the trip off we all went and enjoyed a ice cream at pokeno with the famous 24 scoop ice cream option.
