Seriously overpriced for what it is.
Arrived early on a Sunday as car park fulls quite fast. About $110 for a family of 3 and took us less than an hour

We have been here before but this was the first time back since COVID hit. We had the whole place to ourselves for a while so I took the opportunity to take as many pics as possible before the crowds. A new young lady called Laurie it was her first day and we listened to her talk about the sea creatures in the big tank in the cafe. She was very good, interesting and engaging. It felt nice and one to one because the crowds had not entered at that point as you had to book a time slot to get in. It's important we support these local treasures in our community to keep them going and give valuable jobs and experience to the staff there. Please pay them a visit and make sure you book your time slot in advance via bookme etc.

Not stopping activities so early. Not rushed out before 5pm. If you want folk to be put you need to state 4:45, not say you’re open till 5pm. Felt pressured from 4:15 to leave, not good enough. Disappointed no octopus, eels the finale not there very disappointing. There should be something of interest at the end.

Very average experience and not really worth the price. It took about an hour to get in - despite prebooking tickets online, you still have to queue and get them scanned at the counter. The whole entry process could have been stremlined with a bit of management. The aqaurium is cute but very small with a limited range of species. The shark tunnel is pretty cool, but thats about it. There needs to be major upgrades with more informative signage

Kia ora and thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Thank you also for your feedback regarding our admissions process. It was a challenge negotiating our way through the changes required by the Government guidelines and customer feedback was a very valuable tool in streamlining those processes. We are currently redeveloping some of our older zones. Unfortunately, due to COVID these haven't happened as quickly as we would have liked but we are well underway now! Our new zone Sea Cave Adventure will be open by the end of the year and other areas will continued to be developed including signage and interpretation around the attraction. It's great to hear that you enjoyed our shark tunnel. It is often one of the highlights, especially if the sharks or stingrays swim over your head! Take care and have a fin-tastic day :-) Kind regards SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton's.

Over priced, underwhelming and disappointing. This was very disappointing due to congestion, smelly food, lack of ventilation & unsupervised children on the travelator. No staff were monitoring the lack of mask use, which was highly apparent . There were also many children who seemed to be allowed to use this facility as a playground. The cafe area had a strong smell of fried food in it and there seemed to be minimal ventilation. Signage of how to find the travelator was lacking. We paid $42 pp to enter. The only part that was worthwhile was the penguin enclosure which was good. This (penguin) experience was not worth the full price. The aquarium is old and tired and could do with a huge spruce up. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.

The animals were amazing, it was the people who made out experience average. We purchased our tickets online so we could skip the line, but no one was keeping the lines organized so we ended up waiting for 30+ minutes behind people who were waiting to buy and book things. The staff could have showed some initiative and had one person serving online customers to speed things up. This was frustrating because we only had the morning to be there before we had to go to the airport. I bought an activity pack for my niece and it was missing half of the stuff it was supposed to have in it. We ordered coffee, one with soy, and this got mixed up so my sister got an upset stomach which was unpleasant on the plane ride home.

The best part of the aquarium are the penguins. Of course, this location was overrun with squealing children. If you don't have kids, I wouldn't recommend visiting this aquarium over seeing other sights in the city if you're pressed for time. The aquarium is small compared to others I've visited, but if you have a young family, this place is ideal. The cafe has a nice selection to eat and there's a large tank filled with fish located in the cafe with a docent inside the tank to talk to the children about sea life. The parents can get a break and a bite to eat while their kids are gathered around the tank, listening to the docent. I witnessed the Shark Cage experience. I doubt it's worth the cost. It's actually a small cage that crowds about 5 people in it. You're not in that deep. Sharks are swimming around in an area, and they may or may not swim near the cage. I thought the people in the cage looked ridiculous because they're holding onto the cage while kicking their legs about needlessly. There's no room to swim and if you're holding onto the side of the cage, there's no need to be kicking your legs about because there's no chance of drowning.

Have been to Kelly Tarlton’s a few times over the years, and although I find it slightly dated now and the shark/ray tanks a bit barren these days there is still plenty of marine life to enjoy. The penguins, turtles, sharks, baby manta rays and seahorses were great to see. Admission fee is a lightly pricey for what’s on offer, very limited cafe.

If you’re considering going here in the school holidays, I’ll tell you right now, just don’t do it.
Our hellish experience began when it took us 15 minutes to find a park in the car park. We then queued for a further 15 minutes just to get into the building.
We started our route around, packed in by people on all sides, with lots of children screaming and crying and older people getting stuck in corners buy the flow of people.
We saw some sad and overwhelmed looking penguins then turned the corner into the cafe area aka the worst place on earth. There were no tables free whatsoever and there were queues of people waiting to grab the next free table. At 11am there was no hot food left to buy at all, the floor was covered in crumbs and dirt, and the playground area was absolutely heaving with screaming children.
After 20 minutes we managed to perch on the end of a table with another family and eat some lunch but it was not a pleasant experience.
I’m not someone who usually writes reviews but I had to for this place to warn others! Do not come here in school holidays.
The amount of people crammed in the building seemed very dangerous, there was no social distancing whatsoever and no one had masks on. There was hand sanitiser in places which was appreciated.
All in all it was a horrendous experience and even the kids didn’t have a good time which says it all really.

Just a 10 minute drive from Central Auckland, parkin is at a premium, so best to take a bus or Uber. Booking is essential (also cheaper when booking online). There is an exhibit of Scott's Hutt and a penguin enclosure where you can see the penguins swim underwater. Also a walkway where you can see sharks, stingrays and other fish swim by your side and over you. About 60-75 minutes is enough time to view all the exhibits

We decided to come down for my dad's birthday with the nephews since he was able to get free entry. My sister booked the tickets online and it was easy enough to get them when we arrived. The entrance has a few things to play on, a truck and a snowmobile, which was handy since we were waiting for everyone to arrive.
The walk started with the hut and then the penguins. You smelt them before you see them. There was the cage where they were swimming and then the bit where you see them standing around on the land.
There were quite a few areas which were quite good for kids, particularly the drawing-room and the cafe area with a playground and an area to pat a starfish. There was also a large tank there that had stingrays and turtles. It was unfortunate that the conveyor belt of the tunnel was broken so we had to walk around it. It did look a lot newer than what I remember but it was also a lot shorter.
I thought that it was a nice way to spend an afternoon. It was nice to watch all the different fish and animals swimming around, particularly the very large rays and sharks in the tunnel. They also have a souvenir store at the end which has lots of interesting items.
