What a great day in Rotorua!
Jan 2020
Jafa here, 24th January was my birthday and decided to spend time in Rotorua for the day. It was a bloody hot day but I really enjoyed exploring both Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland and Te Puia which came with free buffet lunch... yum yum!! Then, we did brief Rotoroa Lake and City tour but ended up staying at a park for over an hour as another driver who was meeting us at Matamata was held up on another tour.

With regard to the seats in bus, the one that took us from Auckland to Hobbiton stopover I sat in the single seat chair and found it really uncomfortable. It wasn't wide enough to fit in and lock my seat belt in. :( At a quick stop before Hobbiton, I asked to move over to front seat (next to driver) and was so relieved and lucky to sit there most of the trip except from Matamata to Auckland. Front seat was unavailable, so I sat at the back and realised they were large seats, they appeared to be wider than seats in front of me? I was not complaining :-)

Lastly, we had different drivers throughout the day and each of those drivers took care of us which really made our day, thank you team! :-)

I am glad you enjoyed your day. You were corect the 3 seasts in the rear of each coach are wide - Most coaches have for seats accross the back and we have deliberately chosen to pout 3 wider seats, so everybody of any size can find a seat to be comfortable. I am not sure why you were held up when waiting for your final driver as the timing normally works really well. but I glad we helped make your birthday special nad you enjoyed the lunch

Exactly What We Wanted!
Jan 2020
FlexiTours is all about the guest and what a person wants to see and do vs a standard cookie cutter tour, though you can chose those as well. I had booked a last minute tour less than 24 hours before departure from Auckland to Rotorua, then on to the Auckland Airport for my flight. Tour guides Derrell, Rick, Dallas, Vic and Andy were outstanding. They all worked together as one seamless, friendly team to ensure pick up and transport to the next point on time and with much ease and comfort. The guides went above and beyond to provide a customized tour that was no more expensive than a standard tour. Amazing experience getting to see the sights I wanted to see and transport to the airport in plenty of time for my flight. Highly recommend!!!

Long trip
Dec 2019
12 -13 hours end to end from Auckland. Visited three places.
We didn't stop by Rotorua town per say, drove through it.
We spent 100 minutes in the Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland, wish we had more time. 90 minutes to complete all 3 walks are still a bit rushed.
Then we headed to Te Puia. Again, not enough time to enjoy everything.
If you like to do deep dive for each attraction mentioned, it's better to do one activity a day. If you like a good high level orientation, this is a good tour.
They are well organized and curteous.

I am sorry you did not feel you had enough time - but one day tours are by there very nature, a compromise - We get people like your self who wanted more time and quite a lot who come out of Te Puia or Waiotapu after 30 minutes and say - that was interesting - where to now. We offer overnight tours with a range of accomodation from Luxury 5 star hotels to Backpacker dorms to suit everyone's budget. We recommend that anyone wanting a more in depth experience to book a 2 or 3 day tour Thankyou for commenting on our organisation and courteous drivers

Te Puia Option Considerations
Nov 2019
My husband and I choose the Polynesian Spa and Te Puia option. For the Te Puia portion we were placed in a large group for a guided tour. We could not hear a single thing. The tour is also not long enough to explore a lot of really pretty areas of the park. Overall, my husband and I agreed that the guide needs a mic and the visitors need earphones. There are also other areas that would be great if they had a self-lead guided tour with headphones (like museums) as the guided tour would miss areas. Another aspect that was very frustrating is that we paid a significant amount for the tour and options. However, it wasn't until we were halfway there that we discovered our option only included entrance into Te Puia but not the show (which is highly recommended). They offered for those that wanted to add the show could, but this seems like something that should be included when visiting Te Puia given its popularity. Feeling stubborn and frustrated by additional costs, we did not add it on.

The spa was nice, but you're essentially paying for a natural hot tub experience. No one tells you much about the spa itself or the natural springs. I found I wasn't getting much out of it and ended up eyeballing the spa services at additional costs (which I did not do).

Overall, I wish I had skipped the tour and enjoyed Rotorua at my leisure.

I find this review interesting - but feel you perhaps did not research before you travelled - All our clients are offered the opportunity of joining the guided tour at Te Puia -or to explore on your own - and most people who book the Polynesian spa love the natural rock pool setting. The admission fee to the Lake spa is $55 per person - we only charge you what they charge us and do not add any cost for transporting you to and from There was an option not to add extra activities and to have some time explore on your own or have extra time in Te Puia. I hope you enjoyed relaxing and looking at the scenery as you drove to and from Rotroua and also the buffet lunch at Te Puia - I am sorry you did not totally enjoy your day and the choices you made

Long trip but worth it
Nov 2019
Took off early from Auckland. Our guide was Fran, very friendly and informative. We stopped for coffee along the way. When we reached Rotorua Fran took us to a neighborhood to see geothermal activity in peoples back yards. Then to Te Puia, which was worth the long drive. It’s a must see if you are going to New Zealand. We had a guided tour around the geysers, were able to see a kiwi house, then a Maori concert. Lunch was included, an all you can eat buffet which was very good. We were then picked up by another driver, Rick, who took us to downtown Rotorua and kindly indulged me by dropping me off at the quilt shop. Later picked up and taken to Matamata, where another driver took us back to Auckland. There was some misunderstanding with the bookings, I did not realize I booked the one way tour to Auckland at the time, so we had to pay an extra $25 each to be returned to Auckland. It was still a good trip, just be careful with your booking.

Hi, Thank you for your review. Great to hear that Fran took great care of you. Awesome to hear you enjoyed the full buffet at Te Puia which is included in almost all of our tours. Unfortunately a lot of people tend to miss read the options when booking our Rotorua only tours and sometimes see pass our one way trips as we are able to start tours in Auckland and finish in Rotoura and start in Rotorua and finish in Auckland. Glad to hear our team was able to accommodate you and bring you back to Auckland. Looking forward to you traveling with us in the future. Regards, Daniel

Disappointing
Oct 2019 • Friends
A very disappointing experience. Drivers/Tour Guides were unorganised & the description of the trip in the brochure was very misleading. Would have been better off hiring a car & driving to Rotorua to do our own thing.

I am sorry you were not happy - but I can re-assure you that renting a car and navigating NZ roads on your own would have been way more stress-full and less rewarding and most likely more expensive by the time you paid for the car, the fuel, the insurance, the admission fees and the excellent buffet at Te Puia. I can assure you our guides are given thorough and detailed instructions for each day and are all experienced. We do find that sometimes people do not understand what they are told or have no real knowledge of what Rotorua has to offer and therefore are disappointed because the tour did not take them to many man-made attractions - but it is all about nature and natural phenomena I have rave reviews about all of our Rotorua guides all over trip advisor so it is hard for me to understand why you did not like them. I advise anyone planning to take a Rotorua tour to take 30- minutes online or to talk to us or your travel consultant to have a look at what is there, and what interests them, before they make a reservation. Please also be careful to book options if you are not a person who just loves nature and scenery. Rotorua is a unique and different place with steam coming out of storm water drains, multiple geysers and thermal activity and it is unusual to say the least to have a city built in such an active thermal area. There is a high concentration of Maori (our indigenous population) living in the area and at Te Puia you have the opportunity to see the Maori Arts and crafts centre to see the Maori traditional arts, crafts, carving and music ) This tour is very popular and has many happy customers, so not knowing exactly what day you travelled, it is hard for me to know why you were not happy. My initial feeling is that you did not know where you were going and had expectations to see man-made attractions and you did not like or understand Rotorua's unique geology. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your holiday Regards Philippa

What a way to waste a day!
Oct 2019 • Friends
We were picked up at our hotel for a Rotorua only day tour. Brochure states they will pick you up and take you to Rotorua however first we we to hobbiton and then onto Rotorua. 4hrs later 2 different drivers we arrive in Rotorua. Our driver had no idea what he was supposed to do with us. So he showed us around a pretty average park at no point were we told that this was our free time and that we had the option to choose what we wanted to do. At 12pm we arrive at te puia and we are told that the show starts in 15 minutes. No time to look around first then it’s lunch and you have an hour to look around alone. Back in the bus with our 3rd driver of the day and we are told we are to be taken for a guided tour of Rotorua town. We were taken to the redwood Forrest and drove around the town for an hour then return to Matamata to meet yet another driver to return us to Auckland. Another 3hr trip. None of the driver knew what was meant to be happening with us they couldn’t tell us what we were meant to be doing at any time. I would not recommend this tour. It was such a waste of our time and at $312 pp a great waste of money. Such a terrible experience for what should have been a delightful day.

Hi I am extremely disappointed that you were not happy with your day but there are number of areas where I feel there may be some misunderstanding. We regularly use the Café at Hobbiton as the morning Tea stop in the Matamata area as food and coffee are good and coming this way is just 10 minutes longer than driving direct from Auckland to Rotorua. You left Auckland just before 7am and arrived in Rotorua at approximately 10am - The drive time from Auckland to Rotorua is 3 hours and you had a 20 - 30 minute morning tea break. There is no way could have got you there more than 10 minutes before we actually arrived At the time of booking your tour there were a number of options you can add such as Waiotapu, Polynesian spa and many more - You added only the Maori concert which gave you some free time. This time is not long enough to organise an extra attraction ( unless pre-arranged ) and if the weather is not good - which was the case in most of October our drivers are not going to drop you to just get rained on Your lunch was served just before 1pm at Te Puia and after lunch you had until either 2:45pm or 3pm - depending on the day - and I do not know which day you travelled to look around Te Puia. We try not to give people more than 3 hours total time in Te Puia (which is what you had) There are guided tours on the hour - every hour at Te Puia but we find most people do not want to do these but prefer to explore on their own The tour of Rotorua including the Redwoods has been described by many, many clients as the highlight of the tour. I think your expectations of what there is to see, may have been different to what is there. Rotorua is about the nature, Geological phenomena, and natural beauty. If you wanted more activity and structure in your day you need to book at least one more activity so as not to have free time as past of the programme. We transfer drivers to give you as wide an exposure as we can to local knowledge - The drivers who looked after you from Hobbiton and back to Matamata (which is the most direct was of getting back to Auckland) were Rotorua locals all of whom have had many rave reviews about their knowledge. I am sorry you did not enjoy your day and the way we operate our tours. At NZ$312 you had included nearly $150pp worth of admission fees and a top of the line buffet lunch and transport in late model Mercedes with a luxury fitout and contact with three local drivers giving you diverse and interesting information I would advise any person looking to book this tour to do some reading about Rotorua and to pre-book options of interest and to only book a basic tour if they really love nature Philippa Dean

Two day Hobbiton, Rotorua, and Waitomo
We had a great two day trip from Auckland to Hobbiton, Rotorua, and Waitomo. We didn’t want to cram it all into one day so Flexitours worked with us to arrange overnight accommodation in Rotorua and local drivers to show us around. That gave us more time to enjoy the geysers at Te Puia and the chance to drive out to see the lakes. We added the redwood tree walk on the morning of the second day and then a stop at Waitomo on the way back to Auckland. The drivers were great. Highly recommend.
