        • Hobbiton and Waitomo Caves tours are run by local guides and are of a set duration and you get exactly the same time as other visitors who are visiting less places in a day, but with Rotorua you only have approximately 1.25 hours in the area. If you have more time available and are particularly interested in Rotorua we recommend you either book our overnight tour to the same 3 destinations or buy 2 tours splitting the destinations over 2 days.but putting all 3 destinations in one day is cost effective and for many people just seeing a geyser and a taste of Rotorua is more than enough. This is more important with Te Puia no longer allowing unguided customers a short look around the reserve
        • Hobbiton is a reasonably challenging walk - Please advise if you have mobility issues and if it is avaialble we will book a golf cart for you
        • This tour is being discontinued and will not be available after November 2023
        • This tour/activity will have a maximum of 12 travelers

          Amazing Day trip!
The day trip was perfect, especially thanks to our guide, Jenny. She was an experienced guide and was absolutely fantastic! The scenery was breathtaking, and her explanations were very professional. I strongly recommend this day trip. It was well worth it!

10/10 experience for LOTR Nerds and Nerd Nerds
Amazing! We lucked out in that we were the only people on our tour, so we had such an enjoyable personal experience with our FlexiToursNZ guides (Edson and Jenny). Both were so knowledgeable, friendly, and lovely. We also lucked out with the tour guides we had at Hobbiton and Waitomo Caves, as they made the tours so enjoyable. Overall great experience, would recommend.

          A rare find!
We had an absolutely wonderful time on our trip to Rotorua. While the travel time was long, our guide, Louise, kept us thoroughly entertained with her expertise on local landmarks, Māori history and mythology, and current events in New Zealand. We couldn’t believe 3 hours had gone by when we arrived! Once we arrived in Rotorua, Louise realized that our first planned activity to view the lake would not be best, as the lake was covered entirely in fog at the time. So instead, she changed our guided tour at Te Puia to an earlier time, allowing us the ability to view the lake later in the afternoon. We appreciated her quick thinking and flexibility to allow us the best possible experience! Of course, Te Puia itself was awesome, and we enjoyed the Māori cultural performance as our add-on activity. We would highly recommend visiting Te Puia with FlexiTours NZ!

Highly recommended this tour and this agency
FlexitoursNZ gave us the best service concerning our trip/tour to Rotorua. Everything worked ok and beyond the expectations. They accomplished and arranged all our requirements, so we had the best experience in this trip from Aukland to Rotorua for 2 days. If you have any doubt or inquiries, they answer the telephone and e-mails immediately. The drivers/guides, all of them, were amazing, and they drive very carefully. We visited 5 attractions, all of them wonderfull. This is really an excellent agency, and we recommend to everybody that come to NZ to get its tours.

          Expensive day trip to Rotorua
The day was fine. I think for the money I paid there should have been more activities included in the itinerary. We were taken to Whakarawarewa only. While the tour in there was good and informative, there was nothing planned after lunch. An Impromptu visit to Goverment Gardens was offerd to us in the afternoon. I must say the lunch was very good and had many selections.

"Rotorua and Waitomo Caves " day tour with " "Flexi Tours NZ"
We were a total of 10 tourists of different nationalities, all families except for a young Japanese lady and myself travelling with "Flexi Tours NZ" to "Rotorua and Waitomo" caves. Our Driver/ Guide Mr Edson of Brazilian descent was hilarious and very informative throughout the 226 Km drive from Auckland CBD to Rotorua that began at 0645 hrs . Had booked the " Rotorua & Waitomo caves " tour costing NZ$ 455 at the "Flexi Tours NZ" office in Queens Arcade. At 0945 hrs we were finally at the entrance gate of "Te Puia ,Rotorua Geothermal park ".In a group tour everything is planned to the scheduled timing and our tour slot was allotted for 1000 hrs as prior booking is essential .Our guide took us on a walking tour and our first visit was to the "Kiwi Enclosure" where a pair of New Zealand's national bird the Kiwi are kept under "Nocturnal viewing " conditions. After the Kiwi enclosure visit our next stop was the "Mud Pools" having bubbling hot mud releasing Sulphuric fumes. Next was the amazing sight of the "POHUTU GEYSER" .The Geyser was spouting steam akin to a fountain and the surrounding ground was also emitting steam vapor in small quantities. After viewing the Pohutu Geyser from a distance we were transported by a toy train to the main entrance gate. Our next visit was to the building housing the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute an indigenous traditional art school. It operates the national schools of three major Māori art forms. After viewing the artisans at work we next had a "Buffet Lunch" in the grand dining hall of Te Puia ,Rotorua Geothermal park . After lunch we boarded our Mercedes Mini bus and headed to Waitomo Caves. On the way we stopped at Government Gardens.Originally known as Paepaekumana, the Government Gardens are situated on the lake Rotorua's edge in downtown Rotorua. At 1520 hrs reached the entrance gates of Waitomo caves. Again there was a large tourist crowd and our guided tour slot was at 1530 hrs.Our tour guide Ms Cheryl was a Maori descendant of the original discoverer's of these caves over a 100 years ago. This entire Waitomo caves is now owned by the Maori trust and the employees are descendants of the original founder's of this cave tourism.Photography inside the caves is strictly prohibited and before entering the cave a professional photographer takes a photo of each visitor, a common routine at most tourist sites across the Globe.Entering the caves we were transported into a different subterranean World.Beautiful Stalactites and Stalagmites and very well preserved. We finally came into a cave chamber called the " Cathedral" whose natural acoustics was excellent and a Maori lady sang a traditional Maori song in this chamber .We got our first glimpse of the " Glow Worms" in a corner of this chamber with the subterranean stream flowing below. We finally boarded the small boat and were rowed across the narrow channel inside the cave. The cave ceiling resembled a night sky with stars shining bright as the glow worms illuminated the cave ceiling with their glowing bodies. After the boat ride we began our long almost 3 hrs journey back to Auckland finally reaching Sky Tower in Auckland at 1945 hrs. End of a very expensive but thoroughly educative and scenic tour of the New Zealand countryside and Rotorua Thermal springs along with WAitomo caves.

          Just “meh”
Had been very excited about this trip, but it fell quite short of my expectations. Our driver pointed out a few buildings on our way out of Auckland, then said nothing more until we arrived in Rotorua. When she did speak, she sounded tired and annoyed. We arrived in time to see the Māori cultural presentation. This was a $30 add-on for a 20-min show. A bit overpriced for what we received. The walking tour thru the grounds was the best part. Seeing the kiwis and the mud springs and geysers was thrilling. Several tour groups were combined for this part though, so we could not hear the guide at all unless we fought our way to the front of the crowd. The buffet lunch included in the price of the tour was fine. Fresh food, lots of choices. But the entire “Māori culture and hot springs experience” was finished in about 2 hours. For a “13-hour day trip” ( even with 6 hours of driving), I thought there would be more involved. Honestly, the biggest let-down was our driver. Her lack of warmth and interest made the rest of the trip rather flat.

The efficient way to visit 2 places on the move.
If you plan to move from Auckland to Rotorua or vice versa and want something to see, this trip is for you! You can also bring your suitcase with you. and 2 drivers were so helpful. I highly recommend it!!!

Going to New Zealand? Call Phillipa at Flexitours
I booked several custom tours with Flexitours for myself and husband. We wanted to see a lot of the attractions are a slower pace. Philipa was absolutely amazing. She arranged each of our days specifically for us! Phillipa was very informative and offered great advice on where and when to see attractions. Phillipa was very quick to respond via WhatsApp. It felt like I had a private tour again. Throughout our time in New Zealand, we had 6 tours either directly with Flexitours or booked for us by Phillipa. Andy was our personal driver for 2 of the days. He was fantastic! He was knowledgeable and a great guide. So glad he was our driver twice! The other tours were well orchestrated. Phillipa was very accommodating (and flexible 🤣) when we wanted to change our itinerary slightly. Our trip to New Zealand was exceptional!! Phillipa was instrumental in making our trip so wonderful. So glad she took care of all the tours!!

          Exceptional Customer Service
We were let down by another company at short notice and called in FlexiToursNZ office to see if they could help. Although it was unlikely we could secure the tour we wanted at such short notice I am writing this review because of the exceptional customer service. Mata, the manager was so helpful and professional. I wish we had used their service rather than the other company. Thank you for your time

FlexiToursNZ... I'll be seeing you guys again!
We had Peter as a driver. He was crucial to our experiences being so positive. I wish him the very best for the future and his endeavours. FlexiToursNZ came to the rescue when I contacted them at the last minute. The group size was perfect. We met a family from Jacksonville, Florida, and two women from Singapore. We spoke, developed respect and shared moments during the trip. Our specific tour at Hobbiton was enjoyable, outside of the young lady who kept heckling my son to stay with our tour group and not wander everywhere at Hobbiton (but she didn't work for FlexiTours). Big T made looking at caves (Waitomo) a beautiful experience, especially with his singing. I hope one day, our friends from the tour group will read this review and smile, looking back at our brief encounter, moments of happiness from a short time in life passing through a small town reminiscent of a big movie (which we never watched).

Only glowing things to say about FlexiToursNZ
We just completed a 2-night 3-day "Hobbiton and everything but the kitchen sink" FlexiToursNZ excursion. What a fantastic experience! Our family of four was in good hands with FlexiTours. We simply hopped aboard our comfortable van and enjoyed the ride, grateful to avoid the challenge of driving on the other side of the road and able to enjoy the scenery out the windows, stress-free. Our driver from Auckland to Hobbiton and Rotorura, Louise, entertained us with her deep knowledge of the region all along the ride down, answering each question we lobbed at her, even through a rainstorm. The weather was perfect by the time we reached Hobbiton, and Louise took care to give us crystal clear directions on when and where to meet her at the end. In Rotorura, she tossed in a short side trip to a historic bath house and the lake before our next destination, Te Puia geothermal park, and a delicious buffet lunch. FlexiTours set up our overnight accommodation at Jet Park hotel and was precisely on time to pick us up the next morning, for a full day of geothermal adventures. On day two of our tour, we were driven by Cathy and treated to her local knowledge. We visited a bubbling mud pot, a rushing waterfall, a stunning geothermal park--Waiotapu--and a lakeside town where we enjoyed lunch with a view. Noticing how much we loved the first geothermal park, Cathy added a side trip to a smaller park, which ended up being a highlight of our day. Day three of our tour was rainy, but we were in excellent hands with Edson, who drove us over rolling, sheep-dotted hills in a rainstorm with utter confidence. Our visit that day to Waitomo Caves was not to be missed! A stunning display of nature's wonders as we floated in darkness and silence under a ceiling of glowing bioluminescence. The mood aboard our FlexiTours vans was friendly and convivial, and we felt safe and welcomed. I have only glowing things to say about FlexiTours. They made travel easy!

This was an amazing day trip! We got to see 3 unforgettable locations and were well-entertained throughout the long drive. Me and my husband only had 3 days to see as much as we possibly could in Auckland area and this was the most we could get done in one day. Daryl, our awesome tour guide, kept an ongoing stream of fun facts and things you should know about New Zealand throughout the drive. He made sure we were happy during the ride and during the stops at any location; taking pictures of us if we asked (and even offering whenever he could!). He even showed us a secret spot for great photos in Hobbiton! We would definitely book with FlexiTours again because they have the best tour guide, Daryl!

Perfect full day tour in the North Island! Chris, our driver and guide, communicated with us early to confirm our pickup, is extremely friendly and knew tons of history and facts about New Zealand he shared throughout the trip. The drive was long but Chris knew how to keep the group engaged with colorful commentary. We lucked out and had beautiful weather so we had a gorgeous view of the New Zealand country side as we trekked to our destinations. Each stop had wonderful guides and hosts due to the bonds which Chris had cultivated as a host. Overall, an excellent day!

This small group tour is an informative, convenient and cost effective way to experience the wonders of both Hobbiton and Waitomo Glow Worm Caves whilst being provided a transfer between Auckland and Rotorua or vice versa.
I found our guides, Pete and Herms to be knowledgeable, friendly & engaging and, although a long day, a very enjoyable one!
        Highly recommend.

Great excursion even if you're not a huge LOTR fan. The experience of having a great road trip throughout this area of New Zealand was magical enough for me. Our tour operator was fun, knowledgeable and was just cool to talk too about random NZ stuff. Rotorua was geographically interesting and our lunch was top notch. Waitomo caves left you in awe in its beauty and it was a nice cool down in the caves from a summer day's travel. I would recommend this experience to all and there is no age limit to the charm of some of the north island's best attractions.

This tour was an easy way to get from Auckland to Rotorua without renting a car. Having Louise as our tour guide made it an exceptional ride! She was so friendly and knowledgeable.

I wholeheartedly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to visit Waitomo Caves and Hobbiton without fussing over the details.

We loved the experience! As a Lord of the Rings fan it was awesome to be there at the site and to feel as if we were in the Shire! We also delighted in the Waitomo Caves and had a wonderful view of the countryside while getting there. Our guide Louise was charming and gave us lots of information, we learned a lot about the Maori culture. She was also very professional in getting us all lunch and alternatives for future sightseeing. Fully recommended!

Early morning pickup at hotels are a great benefit but be on time....one was almost left behind for being 5 minutes late--it's tight for time so pickups have to be timely since 2 of the sights have specific times. We loved all 3. The glow worm was most amazing and Hobbiton was perfect and the lunch at the Rotorua geyser area was truly superb with local Maori food prep. Comfy bus was appreciated.

Thank-you for your great review and it is nice to see people who understand why have to ask people to be on time. The more you are on time, the more relaxed and enjoyable your day will be. If you are not trying to catchup all the time you will have more than enough time to enjoy everything. I hope the rest of your holiday went as well

This is a 16+ hour tour but worth the time and money. You go to three incredible sites and are not rushed at all at the sites. The Rotorua tour includes buffet dinner and show. The guides were knowledgeable and friendly. It includes all admissions and lunch and dinner. Highly recommend!!!

I'm so glad I decided to book this tour. We had such an amazing day. It was so nice not having to drive. Our driver guide, Rebecca, was wonderful. The mini bus was very comfortable. We even got a few naps in. Hobbiton was awesome. While you won't get time to tour Rotorua, you get a nice little sightseeing drive around and a quick stop at a geyser in a public park. The buffet lunch was delicious. Plenty of food options. Waitomo glow worm caves was a nice little experience to end the tour.
