This tour was super interesting! Michael was very knowledgable and has the tour down to a fine art. The booklet with photos of the people he was talking about really added to the experience. Highly recommended.

A socio-cultural-deep-dive into the origins of the Chinese community and criminal underworld of Chinatown in the heart of Melbourne’s cbd. Michael takes you on a captivating journey of the mind as you step back in time walking Little Bourke Street and its many laneways and back-alleys, while viewing its many original original buildings (and finding out what happened inside), as you listen to the true (and sometimes tall) tales of iconic Chinese criminal figures and warring factions, corrupt and drunken constabulary, and the generally seedy underbelly of the area in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Michael’s remarkably well-researched historical knowledge, the intriguing, sometimes dark and often hilarious stories, and all the other juicy details of Chinatown’s past are laid bare. A must do for visitors and Melbournians alike!

A really interesting, leisurely tour by the very knowledgeable tour leader! Michael has so much knowledge about the ‘sordid’ history of Fitzroy (and surrounds). Highly recommend this tour.

Michael had incredible knowledge & great stories to tell. It is difficult to think of Fitzroy as he describes it, but he brings the characters and hardship of the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s to life. Won’t look at these old buildings in the same way again!!

Michael brought to life stories from the early 1900s with such depth of knowledge, I could really picture the events. The stories were fascinating and I’ve learnt so much about that period of Melbourne’s history in 2 hours. Our tour was with a small group of about 7 in total. My partner and I will definitely go on the other tours in the CBD next time we’re in Melbourne!

We had a really enjoyable 2 hours walking with Michael around Melbourne’s Fitzroy area. Michael knows his stuff, hardly surprising given that he’s studied so many of the files of Melbourne’s worst criminals of 100 years ago and written much of his material from its Old Gaol! Prepare yourselves for a very fun and informative historical tour of Melbourne’s crime-ridden underbelly. Thoroughly recommended.

We went on the Gangsters, Brothels and Lolly Shops Walking tour. You won't take a history walking tour of Melbourne as interesting as this one (unless you also take Michael's Fitzroy True Crime Walking tour on Sundays, which is equally great). Michael's inexhaustible knowledge of Melbourne's criminal past brings historical characters to life. It is so entertaining that two hours flew by. This tour explores a couple of blocks of the city around Little Lonsdale street, so not a lot of walking. But lots of history! I thoroughly recommend this Melbourne Historical Crime Tour.

Micheal’s Knowledge and passion for the true crime in Fitzroy in the late 1800 early 1900 is captivating! Highly recommend.

My friend and I attended a Saturday morning tour with Michael and was astounded at his knowledge and enthusiasm of the historical content of Melbourne's seedy side from the late 1900s until the 1940s. The sites visited were very interesting. If you are concerned about walking too far, don't be as you spend a good amount of time at each stop on the tour. We bought a t-shirt each too. Well worth the money and time. He also has other tours, so next time we come to Melbourne, we are definitely going to do the night tour. Thanks Michael, the tour was fab!

What a fascinating tour this was, and Michael was very informative. I dont think anyone knows more, because he has written books about the subject. We were given a booklet about the characters we learnt about. I never knew so much about this part of Melbourne
