The Great Ocean Road is definitely listed as one of Australia's top attractions for a reason. The small group environment on this tour was a great way to see it in a personalized setting. Our tour guide Ezra was fantastic and kept us informed and entertained throughout the day. This tour is a long day starting at 7am and returning back to Melbourne at 9pm. Having a great guide made all the difference to keep the energy. In addition to beautiful seascapes, we saw an abundance of wildlife including wild koalas, parrots, and even an echidna waddling along on one of the trails.

Booked in Tourist Center for Wildlife Tours, end up with Autopia Tours. It was a great tour overall, our guide Darren is great, fun and informative. He always join us at every stop, enjoying the views and taking pictures with his dSLR. Lunch was also better than I expected (was expecting a lousy food based on some reviews). Also saw wild Koalas on the way. I just wished he let us try the vegemite during the morning tea w/ biscuits.

Lastly, his playlist was excellent!

p.s. If the admins can read this, can you kindly ask Darren if he can share his playlist through direct message?

We set off from Melbourne to see the Great Ocean Road. Quite a distance had to be covered in one day (600km) from memory. Departing at 7:15am and returning at 7:30pm the day was long and maybe could have been shortened by skipping a few less exciting stops. We did see a wild koala on one brief stop which was a treat. The bus wasn’t the most comfortable as it was quite small with limited leg room and no arm rests. The main highway out of Melbourne didn’t appear to be the smoothest and on a small bus with poor suspension, we did feel a little sick at times.
The last 2 stops of the day were the best- Loch an Gorge and The Twelve Apostles and we had ample time for these. There were limited opportunities to buy refreshments after the lunch stop as the shop at the apostles was unexpectedly closed. I would advise a different stop on the way back to Melbourne with a refreshment opportunity as there were plenty that we passed close to the toilet stop.

Our guide Troy delivered some interesting information and overall we enjoyed the tour.

Being kicked out from the bus by the tour guide, Kelly attempted to dump the tourists on a beach in the middle of nowhere, after we refused, he dumped us in Lorne, Kelly discriminated us on race and body shape.

33 people is not a small group, there is only 34 seats in the bus, everyone has the right to have a seat.

We joined a small group tour (24 people max) from another agent, there were 6 people (all Asian) waiting at the bus stop, a bus has been there for a while and the bus has no sign and the driver did not come down to ask if we are the people for his bus tour, until a man asked him, then he found all of us and got up to the bus, our family of 3 is the last one to get into the bus and there are only 4 seats left, one big guy occupied 2 seats and my daughter and myself have to sit with his other 3 family members at the back of the bus, only part of our bum can be sat and don’t even think of leaning our back on the seat or able to fasten the seatbelts because we are bum to bum, leg to leg without any gap, we couldn’t sit like this for a 14 hours tour, so we switched our seat after the first stop and everyone was ok until the second stop, the big guy occupying 2 seats moved to the front after the second stop, the people got angry then the tour guide blamed on us because we moved the seat first. We told him we are unable to sit at the back and request him to ask the big guy to sit with his family at the back, then my daughter and I take his 2 seats, the big guy will still have 2 seats because they have only 4 people on the back row, the driver refused to do so, he said he offered him to take 2 seats before.

The question is that guy is not the only one in big size on the bus, why he gave him 2 seats before the other 6 people (all Asians) are picked up.

Kelly said this is the way it is, he didn’t even asked the guy if he mind to sit with his family (as their family has 4 person, he still have 2 seats) he asked us to leave the bus because we refused to go back to the original seat (which is 1.5 seats for my daughter and myself).

He asked us to leave the bus which was on a beach in the middle of nowhere 😡😡😡😡😡

We refused, than he stopped the bus in Lorne, a small town and asked us to leave again, we left because we felt our day has already been ruined and we couldn’t stay with the group for another 12 hours in this way.

Very upset being discriminated and we have never seen other Australians like this before, especially in the tourism industry 😡😡😡

The poor agent that we booked the tour originally offered to pay us the taxi fee from Lorne to Geelong, which costs A$135, from Geelong we took the train back to Melbourne.

Aside from this incident, Kelly is not qualified as a tour guide, he doesn’t count the people on the bus after a stop, and he is too negative on weather and road traffic, his music choice is for himself only.

We are sure most guests reading this will be able to tell that there was clearly another side of the story to the above review. So we were delighted when another guest took it upon themselves to set the record straight and write a review called "Kelly, the best tour guide..." We encourage anyone keen for the other side of the story to have a read of how others on the bus saw this situation unfold and give the review on the 22nd of September a read! We also cannot help but point out the irony of the accusations of discrimination based on race and body size in a review that is littered with references to other people races and weights.

1) The bus we were on needs to be replaced. The shocks and the air con is worn out. 2)They booked ALL seats - including the extra ones in the very back of the bus which were like sitting in a jump seat on an airplane. It was a miserable place to sit. And most of this trip is spent on the bus. 3) "Stopping for tea" was at a roadside park with barely warm water from a thermos (of which they ran out of before everyone had some) and biscuits from a plastic wrapper. 4) Lunch was a sandwich (with no drink) the driver handed you to eat while you walked around the 12 apostles. 5)Dinner was pizza (again no drink) sitting in a cafe with no air. The pizzas were just put out on the table and everyone just ate out of the boxes. This was definitely what is called a budget tour. Never again.

Hi Russell, Thank you for taking the time to write your feedback and we always love the chance to review and improve! We are constantly upgrading our vehicles and over the past year have added 5 new buses to our fleet. It is usually our policy to cap out the buses with a spare seat on all our longer tours and I am surprised to see this was not the case when you travelled, if you could drop us an email to info@autopiatours.com.au with your booking name and date you travelled I can investigate this for you. I would also like to let other readers and those considering the reverse tour know that we have been listening to feedback regarding the food on this tour and as of April 1st 2018 we have made a couple of changes based on what people are telling us they like and don't like. Our lunch on this tour is now fresh sandwiches from our baker and fresh fruit and trail mixes. Unfortunately we will not be handing out plastic bottles but for some time now have encouraged guests to bring their own bottle on board which can be refilled throughout the day with our water supply on the bus. #thinkgreenautopia http://autopiatours.com.au/trade-release-world-environment-day-making-difference/ We no longer stop for a pizza dinner on this tour as we had been seeing an increase in feedback such as this where guests would rather return to Melbourne for dinner there (and why not, Melbourne is the food capitol of Australia!) We still make a stop for guests to purchase food on the way home if they wish. One of the great things about the reverse tour is that having done the 'long drive' at the beginning of the day it is a relativity short return trip to Melbourne at the end of the day. Autopia is constantly reviewing feedback and making changes in order to provide the best possible experiences for all guests, while we know we cannot please everyone we are responsive and not resistant to trying new solutions! Please do drop us that email Russell as we would love to have you on-board to try out the tour again now that these changes have been brought in. Thanks for giving us the chance to improve!

Travis was our guide and he had been excellent. His great sense of humor and knowledge about the places we went were just terrific. We had many stopovers to view magnificent sceneries and he had been very responsible. The tour started at 830 am and finished with a dinner at a small town restaurant. Food was good and environment was cozy. Travis drove each of us back to hotel to finish the night. I suggest you pay a little extra money for the helicopter flight overseeing the 12 Apostles.

My husband and I went on the reverse tour with Grant on September 29. The scenery was stunning. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. Grant explained the history and geography of the Great Ocean Road as toured many different locations. The 12 Apostles were incredible. It was a long day but well worth it.

Thank you so much Judith. Yep, a long day but well worth it is certainly a good tagline for the Great Ocean Road! We see as much as possible in our day and the Reverse tour is awesome for avoiding the crowds :-D Many thanks and we will let Grant know about your lovely Review.

Yes it is a full days tour but worth it.
Tour started from Melbourne around 7am and we arrived back around 9pm.
Most of the day you're spent driving to the different locations but the views are pretty stunning.
Lunch and dinner were both included on my tour. Was nicer being in a smaller group, people were friendly and engaging with one another. Lots of solo travellers so don't be put off if you're travelling alone.
Our tour guide was very friendly and warming, happy to answer any questions we had and also gave us plenty of information throughout the whole day.
I ended up using the company twice when visiting. I also did the Grampians day tour and ended up getting a free ticket to the Eureka sky deck.
Id use them again and also recommend.
The only downfall is the comfort of the minibusses they use. Due to all the hours you're sat down some extra/new cushioning on the seats would be a little nicer.
