Very expensive - not worth the money
Nice views, friendly driver but not worth the money, I can’t recommend this due to the cost. Its like they drop you off at places to spend more money

    Good Hobart overview.
Great overview of the city of Hobart. Christian, our driver, was a lovely man. He was thoughtful and engaging. The tour deepened our understanding of this island community.

    Hobart must do!
Easy and stress free way to see the city sights and hear about the rich history and admire the skills of early settlors. We also took the opportunity to head up Mt Wellington complete with tour guide, would definately recommend, for both the views at the top as well as expert local commentary along the way. Put this on your list!!

Hop on Hop Off..Should never have "Hopped on"
Our experience of the "Hop on Hop off" was that it was very disappointing and a waste of money ! We arrived on a cruise ship and I guess we should have realised it would be busy....and yes it was. Buying the tickets was the easy part..$40 each. A long wait ensued for the bus because of the queue, we ended up on the bottom deck of the bus which we did not want, we could not wait any longer for another bus to come along as my wife has mobility issues. The bus did the tour of city highlights, which was difficult to see from the bottom deck, stopping for quite a while at the casino, the bus was old and belching out diesel fumes, why the driver had to keep it running I just dont know. We loved Hobart but next time we will be catching the local bus and enjoy the ride allot more.

    Worth it!
Perfect way to see Hobart. Great friendly drivers. May I suggest you take the bus tour all around Hobart and pick out the places you really want to see. You can either go around twice and get off and on at the attractions you want to see the second time or take note of them and go back to the start and take your own vehicle there. No waiting at bus stops and wondering if the bus is coming or if you have missed it. And remember it can be for two days so you can come back the next day and see nearly everything. This really is worth the investment.

    Red Bus Tour of Hobart
Good way to visit the city of Hobart & surrounds. The taped audio giving commentary was not working so our driver Paul had to give his own commentary & we actually liked it better than any taped audio we've had on the red buses we've ever been on. That personal touch knowing it was his first time doing this (with a bit of humour) made a huge difference

    Absolutely essential ride!
An essential introduction to Hobart, the red decker bus shows you all the main attractions in Hobart so you can work out where and when to visit easily! We managed to combine it with a look around Salamanca markets which made for a great first day in Hobart.

The perfect way to get the feel of Hobart
We did this trip when we first arrived and had an interesting and informative couple of hours where we saw many of the tourist attractions. This allowed us to determine which ones to go back to later on our visit. Good commentary. Highly recommended.

Good way to see the sights of Hobart
A good way to orientate yourself and see some of the sights of Hobart, whilst also getting a snapshot of the history. It a very busy day on the Saturday when we were using, so much so, that we almost missed out on getting on even though we had pre purchased tickets. Thankfully we were allowed to stand until a seat became available. It was also a very unusual 35-degree day when we were on it, so when we could get a seat, it was up top and not under cover, so it was quite hot. Thankfully Cascades Brewery was one of our stops and we had a refreshing drink after our factory tour. One tip: check the places/tours you can get a discount from because you purchased a red-decker ticket - wish I had before I booked our Cascades Factory tour (lol)

Do your research before you get off the bus.
Be aware that if you get off to visit the Female Factory that it is a 19 minute walk from the bus stop so you either get about 30 minutes to visit, not long enough for their tour, or you have an hour and 40 minutes to get the next bus. Unfortunately most of the site is just bare ground as much of the building materials were removed by locals when the place closed.

I arrived early at the designated pick up point where another passenger, a woman who looked around 30, was also waiting,
When the driver arrived, he apologised and said it was not his fault, but the bus was overbooked and we would have to stand the whole way, a windy 40 minutes trip, or get the next bus in two hours.
I said at my age, in my 60s , I couldn’t stand the whole way and I wasn’t going to try to catch the next bus( maybe full too🙄).
With that I asked if someone else could stand up? Fortunately a wonderful young man offered whom I thanked the profusely.
The other new passenger, the girl who was waiting to board with me, decided to stand up for the trip.
The driver apologised to the two people standing and to me several times and promised compensation to those two.
I could not concentrate on the commentary because of the whole extraordinary mess.
It left a bad taste in my mouth.
What a disorganised bunch Red Decker company is! Not good enough!

Hello BonnyBeliever, Thank you for the time you have taken to write your review. It is with disappointment that I read your feedback. I apologise if our tour did not meet your expectations on this occasion. So that I can investigate your feedback further can you please contact our tour booking office at your earliest convenience. This would be much appreciated. Our numbers are managed through our booking system. Your feedback isnt something that has been raised by anyone previously so we would certainly like to hear from you. Disappointing you didnt raise your concerns with one of our staff on the day/ at the time so that we could have addressed your concerns immediately. We are unable to physically book more passengers than the seating capacity on the bus coming from the city going to the mountain so am surprised to read your feedback. We are a hop on hop off service & are licensed however for standing passengers. We certainly wouldn't expect nor ask anyone to stand for the full duration of the tour and especially anyone with physical limitations. Some people do prefer to stand on our bus service (even when there are seats available) as they are only traveling a short distance between stops and they find it easier with the gear they have brought with them for their walk or bike ride. We don't factor the standing spots into our numbers from the city to the mountain but the standing capacity may be utilized on the return journey intermittently and to drop off/pick up walkers on the bus stops. There would have been people traveling to the mountain on your tour from the city (that you wouldnt have been aware of) who were travelling the full 2 hour return trip (as you were doing), only part way (to the Springs), one way only (hopping off at the summit & walking back to the city), people hopping on and off on all the stops on the mountain, & bikeriders hopping off to join the mountain bike tracks. Although it may appear disorganised it is in fact a well oiled machine! We operate our service with detailed manifests. Our drivers are also in continual 2 way contact updating each other on what walkers are going to be where at what time. If people aren't in their expected spots our tour booking staff give them a quick phone call to check their location and wellbeing. Our drivers continually monitor the weather, monitor the road conditions and are also amazing at recommending what walks in what weather on the day, and the best food to eat at the Springs & at Fern Tree! I can see though looking from the outside in, how this may look vastly different to how a fully escorted, fully guided tour would look which you may/ may not have been on in the past. We understand that a hop on hop off type bus service isn't for everyone. We do offer a full tour refund if people are not 100% happy with their tour experience. Please ring our tour office to organise this for you. We hope that you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Tasmania and look forward to speaking to you soon. We do care very much about our customer tour experiences. Many thanks. Fiona G Tour Manager

The hop on/hop off double decker bus was a great way for us to get our bearings on our first full day here. We sat on the top deck so we had a great view and got a commentary all the way around Hobart. We booked a combo which included a 2nd bus tour up to Mt Wellington, which was spectacular. Thanks to our bus driver Christian, who drove us up the narrow road to Mt Wellington and gave a great commentary about the area and its history. Very informative, and because we booked the combo, we got a 2nd day on the hop on/hop off bus.

Dear Jan, thank you for your fantastic review. It’s lovely to know that you thoroughly enjoyed both the hop-on hop-off bus and the tour to kunanyi/Mt Wellington. This combined ticket is a great way to explore all that Hobart has to offer and take in the fabulous views from the summit of kunanyi/Mt Wellington. Thanks for passing on your thanks to Christian, your driver on the day. He’ll be so pleased that you enjoyed the trip and his informative commentary too. Thanks again, I hope that you had a lovely holiday in Hobart. Louise V, Red Decker Company.

We decided at the last minute to try and get on a tour, website was super easy to find what we were looking for and less than an hour later we were onboard a very comfortable bus heading to Mount Kunanyi (Wellington). Driver was full of stories and little anecdotes as we travelled up and back and made the trip one we wont forget. Amazing scenery!!!

15 members of our Probus Club went up Mount Wellington (Kunanyi) on the All Weather bus. The day had splashes of sunshine with mist. The Temperature felt like -11 the wind gusts were nearly 80kph but the trip was wonderful. The driver,Greg, had a lot of information that he shared willingly. We felt very safe on this great bus. If you haven’t tried it give it a go to take you family up the mountain to get to the snow.

We really enjoyed our bus trip to Mt Wellington. Out bus driver Tony was a wealth of knowledge and a bit of a character! He even had some tips on where to find the best steak & seafood in Hobart. The views from the top are just amazing! We took the last bus up on a Saturday, after a busy day exploring the markets so we weren't able to hop on & off. I would recommend taking a morning bus to make the most of the stops and walks along the way. Definitely wear some layers and a warm jacket as it gets pretty chilly & windy up the top of the mountain.

I must acknowledge that the company has no control over the weather, but as the driver said over the two way, zero visability at all three lookouts. Nothing to see but fog. I am not sure that the suggestion to phone the office and they might be able to get us on another trip, one or two at a time, sometime in the next two or three days, was particularly helpful.
One hour loops so a bus only goes past a stop every hour. Standing waiting for a bus not great.

Hello Marie, Thank you the time you have taken to write your review. You are correct we have no control over the weather. Thank you for acknowledging this in your review. I can understand your disappointment in regards to the fog on your mountain tour the day you travelled. Tasmania is known for the saying that the weather can be " 4 seasons in one day" and also the locals say "if you don't like the weather come back in 5 minutes!" (joking of course). We do recommend checking the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) website prior to booking. There is a handy 7 day forecast on the BOM website. It is sometimes wrong but mostly moderately accurate in predicting rain, cloud cover and wind. It is one of the few alpine areas in Tasmania that people can drive to. Alpine regions are known for variable weather. This is what makes them very special. We all seek different experiences from tours and you may be surprised that we do often have people liking the mist as it makes for great photo's of the trees and alpine vegetation. Although we do not offer refunds due to weather, we are about the only tour company in the world that offers complimentary return travel if there are seats available on another tour departure time and/or day of your choosing. I apologise if you didn't find this useful in your case. Our city loop bus is 90 minutes in duration if you stay on and dont get off (fog free just to clarify as the tour operates at or very close to sea level). If you do hop off yes it is 1 hour between buses. This is better than comparable to cities with similar visitation. We do take your feedback on board. Unlike Melbourne and Sydney we are small city, in fact the smallest capital city in Australia! We offer full tour refunds if our tours don't meet expectations. Please contact our tour office if you would like us to arrange this for you. We hope to see you again soon and I am sure your tour experience will be a more positive one. Many thanks. Kind regards, Fiona G Tour Manager

We were fortunate to have Jon, usually in the back office, but today driving and commentating. A special trip up the mountain with a clarity of description shared in a friendly manner. The weather made it special- sleet and hail came down on cue and created quite a blast- literally. Well worth the investment of $ and time.

Great Morning up to Mt Wellington, Driver, David was very informative and had some good laughs. Shared a lot of local knowledge and was a pleasure to have a chat too as it was quite cold for us North Queendslander's, so after having a good look around opted to wait for others in the bus where it was warm. Pity we missed the snow. All round had a great time.

On our recent family holiday we took the Hop on Hop off to Mt Wellington and it didn't disappoint! Our driver was David and he was so welcoming and knowledgeable about the region. Nothing was a trouble even when one of the other passengers stepped on a random nail. He performed first aid and we resumed our journey. The views at the top were sensational! Highly recommend and great value for money.
