Highlights
  • Spot dolphins and admire the Jurassic cliffs on a 3-hour wilderness cruise
  • Self-guided tour of Port Arthur: visit the sites that interest you most
  • Hassle-free, round-trip scenic transportation by bus from Hobart
  • Great-value: morning tea, lunch, and entrance fees are included
What to expect
  • Make your way to Franklin Wharf to meet your guide for a 7:30am departure. Board your air-conditioned bus and set out on the scenic drive to the Tasman Peninsula, stopping along the way to enjoy morning tea (included) at a local café. Arrive at Eaglehawk Neck in Tasman National Park, where you will transfer to an open-air cruise ship and set sail around the peninsula’s rugged coast. During the 3-hour wilderness cruise, look out for dolphins, seals, and whales along the coast, and enjoy spectacular views as you glide beneath the towering dolerite sea cliffs, peer inside sea caves, and perhaps spot peregrine falcons and other sea birds swooping over the sea or nesting in the cliffs. Back on the mainland, stop for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to the Port Arthur Historic Site, one of Australia’s UNESCO-listed convict sites. After an introduction from your guide, you are free to discover the former penal settlement at your own pace. With around three hours to explore the open-air museum, see the guard tower, penitentiary, and tower cottage, and uncover the harrowing history of the site, which forms a key part of Australia’s convict history. After your Port Arthur visit, meet up with your guide for the return journey to Hobart, where your tour ends at the departure point.

What an amazing day. Saw sights I had only ever dreamt of. Breathtaking views of ragged cliff faces, amazing wildlife and our guides were so informative. Would recommend this tour to all...but please dress warmly as it is bone-chillingly cold

An amazing full day adventure!
Aug 2021 • Couples
This was an incredible full day trip! The ocean was beautiful, we saw so much marine wildlife and the staff were so nice, our driver Luke was an awesome guy who really looked after us, and the meals included at port Arthur were great. We also learnt that company also uses their funds from the trip go back into wildlife conservation: pennicott tours successfully eradicated feral cats from Tasman Island! Thanks for an amazing experience we’ll never forget!

Amazing!
Jul 2021
Such a fun day! This tour really gives you a variety of experiences. Phil our guide was very friendly and informative. We had a lovely morning tea at a cafe/animal farm and then made our way to our 3hr cruise, where we saw albatross, dolphins, whales and heaps of seals! We got up and close to the amazing sea caves too- which was an incredible experience. We went in winter so we definitely recommend to wear warm clothes for the cruise, but you are supplied a full length waterproof coat to wear as well. The Port Arthur experience started off with a lovely lunch and a short guided tour, then we had plenty of time to explore the historical site ourselves- which was full of fascinating history! Well worth it, we would definitely recommend this tour!

Unbelievable Experience
Jun 2021
This tour is unbelievable. The scenery is out of this world and the customer service is professional and the guides so knowledgable. Captain Caine was dropping jokes the whole time and made it such a fun day. Our guide (I’ve forgotten her name but she was lovely) had so much knowledge about the scenery and animals. We saw seals, hump backs, albatross’, eagles and dolphins (who waited right until the end of the tour). So much natural beauty in this gorgeous part of the world. When we come back we’ll be doing more tours with this company. Outstanding!

Spectacular, jagged coastal scenery (with dolphins thrown in for measure)
May 2021
Amazing day out - the trip down the coast to Tasman Island was spectacular! Loads of wildlife and incredible scenery - was a bit brisk, but still very comfortable even with a slight bit of swell in the Southern Ocean.
The boat trip took about three hours - the remainder of the day is taken up heading to Port Arthur, which is a well preserved convict treasure - 3 hours here was not enough time to see it all, but still more than enough as this is a big day (with all of the driving down the Tasman Peninsula).

Brilliant service and a must do when in Tasmania.
