- sheilasV9544KQ0 contributionsQuite enlightening! Quite delightful. We enjoyed the tour with a very professional guide who was happy to answer all our questions. There were only 4 of us, so it was easy to hear. The guide was concerned for our safety at all times, which I appreciated. We learned a lot, and were just delighted with the experience in the Cathedral. We stayed on-site in a Studio unit, and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We took the short bushwalk in the afternoon, and then went on to have a hearty meal at the Pub in town. Many thanksWritten August 24, 2024
- 492jennyk0 contributionsstaying at the cavesgreat accommodation, had everything you needed. Cave tour was interesting and great to hear the bats and see the bats flying around at nighttime when you walk around the camp site. Pub down the road had great meals, if you don't want to cook that night. Great location and quiet and safe.Written August 21, 2024
- J1075QNtrishc0 contributionsThe CavesHave driven past this site for the past 30 years. Can’t believe we hadn’t done it before. Was a real treat. I went in without any expectations. Having done a few cave tours in my time, I was expecting a meh experience. Was pleasantly surprised. Well worth the time and money. Also stayed the night in a cabin. Very clean and quite. Would recommend to stay at cabins even if you weren’t doing the tour if you needed a layover. Drove the 5 min to climb mt Etna. Really enjoyed this early morning walk. Don’t be put off by the level of fitness stated to do this walk. You just have to be reasonably fit. There are lots of steps.Written August 2, 2024

Our guide, Hudson, shared lots of great information about the caves, geological history, area history, was funny, answered all questions and made the tour that much more enjoyable. Helmets and lights are provided. This was a worthwhile stop on our road trip north.Written July 4, 2024
- jamesmR13OM0 contributionsAdventure + Natural beauty + pushing your boundaries.I would rate this 6 stars if I could. This tour has evoked what I feel could be a life-long passion for cave exploration. The wonderful, humourous, and enigmatic tour guide Byron is best described as the love-child of Lara Croft and Captain Jack Sparrow. Highly recommend to adventurous families, children, and adults of all ages.Written July 2, 2024

My partner and I decided to drop in late afternoon as a last minute thing and we were surprised how much we enjoyed it! It was a cosy tour being just us two and one other which was great because it felt really intimate and we had the full focus of our guide. He was fun, witty and very knowledgeable of the caves. The cathedral experience was very original and something I will always remember. Overall a very great visit and would definitely recommend

Thanks Sammie C, we are glad that we where able to surprise you on decision to visit us. It's great on those rare occasions that its just you and the tour guide going through the caves. Our guides are very passionate about the caves and love to share their knowledge with our guests, The Cathedral Cave is a very beautiful cave and it's a great back drop for the Weddings and Operas we hold each year.

This was an amazing experience for the whole family for miss 3 year old, Miss 6 and Miss 16. The staff are fantastic and the caves so good we did the same tour again on road trip back home. Next time miss 6 and miss 16 are going to do more of the adventure tours. If you’re travelling north make sure you stop, I’m sure you will LOVE it as our family did.
Make sure you pay the extra $12 so you can do it all again free.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the little cafe and shop had good coffee and sold interesting and fairly priced souvenirs, The tour into the caves was brilliant. Our guide was both knowledgeable and entertaining. Highly recommend this educational and interesting tour.

We did the 9am Cathedral Caves Tour and while the Tour Guide was great, the number of young children on the tour, left to run amok, distracted our enjoyment and we felt a bit like we were on a pre-school excursion. To his credit, the guide tried to reign them in as parents seemed not to care, either for their behaviour or safety.
Perhaps the organisers should consider scheduling more 'adult' only tours throughout the day?
Aside, the Caves are nice (though not spectacular). The Cathedral area is lovely, especially with the music accompaniment experience in the dark.
On a value for money level, we thought the entry price was too high for what we saw.
The 30min drive from Rockhampton central is easy and lovely and the location of the caves is beautiful too. Coffee at the cafe afterwards was exceptionally good.

Thank you traveljwell for taking the time to share you experience.
I am sorry to hear that you felt your tour experience was tarnished by some children on tour, that is unfortunate, I am grateful to hear that the tour guide did try to, as you say "reign them in" It is always a difficult task!
It was nice to hear your positive comments about the "Cathedral Cave" & also the coffee we make in the kiosk

The guide used humour and spoke clearly and loudly so all could hear. The guide made everyone feel engaged. All staff were friendly and helpful. Loved the fact that we were free to take photos to help remember this marvelous experience. I highly recommend this tour to everyone of all ages.

We did the Cathedral tour with 2 seniors, 2 adults a 11 year old and a 5 month old.
Unfortunately 1 member of our group did not make it even 1/4 into the tour, as we were told the cave was wheelchair accessible, which we found it not to be. The ramp inside the cave was to steep to push a wheelchair up, the ground was uneven in some parts (as expected) and some of the openings to walk through in the cave was too difficult with a wheelchair.
The tour guide and all of the staff were lovely and very friendly. We think the tour shouldn’t be advertising as wheelchair accessible though.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review Sammi1234567891. On a Cathedral cave walking tour you visit 9 caves, of these all the caves have wheelchair access via custom built ramps and natural walk ways through the caves or can be seen from a wheelchair. There are some caves that you can’t actually enter via wheelchair but can still see. It does sadden us that your experience was not a positive one and that access became the issue as opposed to being able to enjoy the beauty of the Caves. Based on your feedback we will train staff to set clearer expectations when guests enquire about wheelchair access.
We do supply an additional guide to exclusively accompany the wheelchair guest to ensure they do not miss out on any guide commentary and can enjoy all the caves from a different perspective. We unfortunately cannot offer to push wheelchair occupants due to workplace healthy and safety regulations.
We do pride ourselves on making the caves wheelchair accessible and want to continue to offer this in a realistic and transparent way.

We thoroughly enjoyed the tour! Our guide was cheerful and knowledgeable. We learnt a lot about the caves history. My favourite part was when the music was played in the dark of the cathedral. We did the tour with a 10, 8, 6 and 2 year old who had no trouble getting through it all and greatly enjoyed the adventure.

A wonderful "dry" cave which is rareish in Australia as the other caves I have been to are "wet". The tour was an informative 1.5 hrs and there cathedral and bridges were fantastic. A song was played in the cathedral cave which brought the great acoustics to life. I had driven past many times and not made the detour, well worth it.

Thank you Michael for visiting us, yes we are a dry cave but on the odd occasion when we get plenty of heavy rain we can turn into a wet cave. The Cathedral Cave is a beautiful cave and with the music playing showing off the natural acoustic. The suspension bridges are a great way to finish off the tour, thank you again for visiting us and your great review.

Phil was a great guide, very good with the kids on our tour, also good with making sure my husband, who walks with a stick, was okay. This is a great tour, interesting and amazing, great for families. Its pretty easy to get around in these bits of the caves but there are unavoidable stairs in some parts so if you have mobility issues you can manage, but will need to take your time. Ramps have been put in wherever possible. The more adventurous can leave via the exciting "Indiana Jones" way with one place where you really need to duck, a zig zag section and two suspension bridges. This is good fun! Entrance fee is good value, facilities are also good, lots of places to sit in the shade and prepare/recover. Food and drink offerings also good. They also offer accommodation and camping sites, a climbing wall and pool, various walking trails too, so this is a great place for families. The little museum part could use a spruce up in places. More adventurous tours are offered for those who are able and "up for it". Overall a great day out.

Thanks JoannaW1459 for the fantastic review, Phil is a great tour guide. We are lucky to have so many guides working for us who have a huge passion for the caves, and it's great to hear that our guest see that while on tour.
It's fantastic to see that you really enjoyed your time while visiting us and we hope you can come back and see us again in the future.

We did two tours, the Cathedral Cave Tour and the Adventurer Tour. Wow! The Cathedral tour is great but for this Dad and 3 young adult daughters the Adventurer Tour will be the one we talk about for years to come. Our guide Stacey was brilliant. She encouraged and inspired us into tackling spaces that we wouldn’t have thought possible. And all with a fantastic fun personality that created lots of laughs along the way. The “Escape Room” was a fun challenge for our group.
I would highly recommend this to the adventurous (and not too chubby) families out there.
