    Low Isles
    Stop: 4 hours
Sail from Port Douglas aboard a luxury catamaran to visit Low Isles in the quieter morning hours, before the majority of visitors arrive. After cruising from the mainland, arrive at Low Isles, where you can spend four and a half hours at Low Isles, a coral cay island where you can relax under palm trees on the white sands and snorkel off-beach in the sheltered lagoon’s undersea coral gardens. Take a walk to Low Isles’ historic lighthouse, dating from 1878, or learn about the Great Barrier Reef’s magical underwater world of iridescent fish and fluorescent coral on a guided snorkel tour led by a marine biologist. There’s more fun eco-education aboard a glass-bottom boat tour, with stunning coral views and expert commentary. After a seafood buffet lunch on board the catamaran, soak up the sun on the deck or return to the water for a final snorkel before returning to Port Douglas by 4pm. Only a select group of operators are permitted to visit the coral cay Low Isles, the only Great Barrier Reef island a short sail from Port Douglas. This cruise combines luxury and eco credentials, for a premium reef experience.

Jose guided our group with great enthusiasm which was very infectious. Each new bombie brought a new experience, huge clams, thousands of exotic fish, turtles and many types of soft coral. Amazing!

This was a fantastic reef experience, from start to finish. Booking was easy and the team in the office was great - I had to make some changes to dates etc. and these were easily accommodated during a phone call. There is a large car park at the marina and the Sailaway office is at a central location, immediately alongside the jetty. The boat was a short walk away. The crew and staff were very professional (and fully vaccinated - well done everyone!) Once on board and underway we listened to an informative (and enthusiastic) talk from one of the crew who is a marine biologist, so we had a good idea of what we might see. The boat was a beautiful catamaran - very smooth sailing. We were fully briefed about what to expect and the plan for the day. They provide all the gear including wet suit, mask, snorkel and fins. The sites at the reef were busy with fish and most of us saw turtles, rays, nudibranchs, and lots of coral. The two snorkel sessions were separated by a really nice lunch, with additional drinks available on a bar tab system. Overall this was a memorable day, thank you Steve and all at Sailaway!

Fantastic day, staff were so friendly and helpful, the low isles were amazing with fantastic snorkelling. Buffet lunch was yummy with plenty of food. We had a spectacular day and sailed around the island looking for whales as we headed back to the marina. Highly recommended

This was a well organised and quality full day boat trip to the Low Isles. The trip out takes about an hour, the snorkelling was excellent, we have dived and snorkelled all over the world and the coral and fish life was prolific, it was nice to see a few turtles as well. We appreciated the opportunity to get off the boat and see the island and the little tour at the end was great. We had a full boat and some wet weather going out - when the outdoor areas were impacted by the rain it was very cramped and crowded in the under cover space. On the way back the weather cleared up and it was much more enjoyable.

My husband and I did the reef cruise on Saturday. I can not recommend this trip highly enough. The whole experience from the moment we booked to the moment we left the boat was fabulous. The crew are great and they take the time to chat with you and make sure you are ok. They look after you in the water as well. Lunch was great, as was morning tea ad afternoon tea. This is so much better than going on a larger boat with twice as many people.

We did the low isles and sunset cruise with Sailaway- both of us are poor swimmers and first time snorkellers - the staff Moby, Nick and Eliza were just amazing in ensuring that we had a safe and enjoyable experience. To see the marine life up close was unbelievable. Special thanks to Moby. And of course the food and drinks were great too.

We had such an enjoyable experience.

My husband can't swim so we really wanted to find a tour to accommodate him. We were quite nervous about swimming in such deep water with a fairly large group, but as soon as we got on board we were set at ease. The staff were so kind, tentative, and knowledgeable. They made sure they knew our experiences with swimming and set us up accordingly. We were given pool noodles to swim with so if you're not a strong swimmer you'll be just fine.

The area was so beautiful. The history of the island was fascinating, and the tour of the reed itself was unmatched. I highly recommend this tour.

Snorkelling at the Low Isles is a must do experience whilst visiting Port Douglas.
Blake and his amazing crew from Sailaway made the day even more special. They provided an excellent service, were very knowledgeable in all aspects of the Reef environment and were happy to answer any questions; not to mention the delicious snacks and lunch they prepared. Would highly recommend this full day Reef experience.
