What to expect
Immerse yourself in the ancient, World Heritage-listed rain forest of Tropical North Queensland. Your full-day adventure begins with pickup at your Port Douglas hotel and a ride on the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway. During the 1.5-hour journey, wind around mountainous curves and stop briefly at beautiful Barron Gorge for photos.  When you arrive at the station in Kuranda, enjoy several hours of leisure time to spend as you choose. Browse heritage markets and enjoy lunch at a local café (own expense), or select from a variety of optional activities. Join in an indigenous celebration at the Tjupakai Aboriginal Cultural Park, take an amphibious duck tour at the Rainforestation Nature Park or enjoy an up-close observation of some of Australia’s amazing animals at Birdworld and the Kuranda Koala Gardens. (Additional expense. See Itinerary below for a description of each option.) To return to Port Douglas, glide above the lush canopy on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. From inside a 6-passenger gondola, get a unique perspective of the forest and enjoy views that stretch far out into the Coral Sea. Stop at two different lookouts to capture photos and chat with forest rangers.  Your full-day rainforest adventure concludes with drop-off back at your Port Douglas hotel in the early evening.

Into the wild
We landed in cairns with a plan to cover Kuranda village & other scenic locations. We drove down to the sky rail station from there a bus took us to the train station on the way guide in bus gave a brief of Cairns. We boarded the train the coaches were clean & the journey was comfortable. On the way up towards Kuranda we get to see some breath taking views. Train stops at two scenic locations from where you can click beautiful pictures. There are lot of activities you can do once you reach Kuranda. Natures trail is the best, the tall trees & their branches take you into the wild....

Enjoyable
Mar 2019 • Couples
We took the Skyrail to Kuranda and rode the train back to town. We upgraded to the Gold Class service. That's the way to go. Comfortable seating, served snacks, beer and wine all the way to town. Stopped At the Barron Falls Station to take pictures of the Barron Falls. The train hosts were knowledgeable and friendly.

Do the Gold Class Service!
Jan 2019 • Couples
We rode the train with their Gold Class Service. We not only sat in comfortable seats but we drank wine and had snacks along the way! We were able to open the windows to get better photographs, which I loved. We rode the Skyrail down the mountain which was enjoyable. The scenery was beautiful and it was a great day!

Enjoyable Train Trip to Kuranda
Oct 2018 • Couples
We were picked up from out accommodation in Port Douglas and taken to Freshwater Station in Cairns for the trip up to Kuranda. The train journey was interesting with a couple of stops on the way. There was plenty of room to move about to take photos.
On arrival in Kuranda it was just a short walk to the village. There was also a river cruise which we did not see until too late but that would also have afforded beautiful views.
We returned on the Skyrail which gave stunning views over the canopy.
On arrival back in Cairns we had a short wait for the coach back to Port Douglas. The coach driver in the morning had given us a time frame for the return journey on the Skyrail so we knew how long we could stay at the two stops. This was very helpful.
A lovely, well arranged day out.
