About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Sarah T0 contributionsAbsolutely brilliant for families with teensMy family with two teen boys just returned from an overnight sailboat trip. We all had the best time snorkelling and doing several scuba dives each. Vanessa and Miguel were e.x.c.e.l.l.e.n.t scuba instructors - experienced, knowledgeable, generous and fun. The food was fresh, delicious and plentiful. If you’re a coffee drinker, I’d suggest you byo coffee bags or similar as there was only instant. Ship was absolutely charming. I am confident these two days will be the highlight of our three week Qld holiday. Worth every penny. Highly recommend.Written December 30, 2023
- 2413barbie0 contributionsUse a different vesselThe accommodations on board were awful!! The description says air conditioning and everything you need on board… not true! During the 2 days there was nowhere to retreat to out of the sun that had a working air conditioner. The captain had his 2 young daughters 5 & 6 years old on board one threw up all over the bathroom and it was a mess. Vanessa and Anna were great dive guides and worked extremely hard the entire trip, cooking cleaning and doing everything. As for food we were given tea or coffee for breakfast then a cold cut platter to make sandwiches for lunch a fruit in between dives. Soda beer and water were at a charge per consumption. Dinner was white rice and a choice of chicken curry or vegetable curry. The diving was great!! It’s the Great Barrier Reef so of course it was awesome!! But the accommodations were very poor. They did turn the air conditioning on at around 11pm but it did not get very cold. We were unable to open our hatch for fresh air which I’m guessing is probably a fire hazard as well. Overall I rate this a 2. The boat in there add is not the boat you use.. this boat was a steal haul sail boatWritten January 8, 2023
- V2912OZsarae0 contributionsGreat way to see the reef!We had so much fun on our Coral Sea Dreaming overnight experience! The instructors really made us feel safe and comfortable for our first diving experience, and also made some fantastic food for having such a tiny kitchen! The reef was incredible, and it was amazing to have it all to ourselves to explore! The only downside was that the ride was fairly bumpy and even our overnight stay was quite wavy, so we had a few folks onboard that were seasick.Written November 25, 2022
- Alicesmith220 contributionsBest way to see the great barrier reefThe whole trip was amazing. Crew were friendly and great scuba instructors. The reefs were incredible and it was a lovely sized group where we all got to know eachother and it felt like your safety was taken care of at all times. Would definitely do again!Written November 18, 2022
- Lyndall B0 contributionsA very special birthday celebrationThe crew were fantastic. As it was my 60th birthday 🎂 they all made a fuss. Really enjoyed the reef even if it was a bit rough getting there . ( no control over the weather ) . Day 2 was perfect the visibility excellent. We went as a family of 4. Our son did the diving and the rest of us the snorkeling. Captain Jason, Scott, Jydee, and Deb all were great . Meeting lovely guests from around the world made it very interesting. The coral was fantastic. Having never slept on a sailing boat on the Great Barrier Reef was an experience I’ll never forget .Written October 1, 2022
- cocogm40 contributionsAmazing DivetripI really enjoyed the two days on this sailboat. The crew was just fantastic! We went to real beautiful dive sites and all of the dives were amazing. There was also some time left for snorkeling after diving, for those how couldnt't get enough. I loved the easy, relaxed but still professionell way of the two dive instructors under water like on the boat. I have been on 4 different liveaboards from Cairns and can only recommend the tour with Coral Sea dreaming. Was just great! The only thing to complain the two days just went by too fast.Written October 1, 2022
- 210charlottaa0 contributionsMemorable diving experienceGreat diving and snorkeling with beautiful reefs, fishes, sharks and turtles! The crew were very competent, friendly and accommodating our needs and wishes. Improvements can be made with facilities onboard; the reeling on the left side hand of the boat was loose, toilet seat was broken, sun screen and sea sick pills were running low. Although our family members have food preferences and allergies, the food was surprisingly good.Written September 29, 2022
- coryv1620 contributionsSIMPY INCREDIBLEMy fiancé and I have been in Australia for 2 weeks now all over the east coast and this was the highlight of our trip! Scott, Jason, and Jydee did an amazing job making us feel comfortable and have a great time the entire trip. From feeding us great food to having an incredible time diving at the Great Barrier Reef, highly recommend anyone interested in scuba diving even if you are new to it as we were! We will definitely come back to do another tour some day!! If you are thinking of doing a trip in Cairns this has to be on your itinerary!!Written September 28, 2022
- Fabkaz0 contributionsCould have been betterMy husband and I "finally" got to sail on the Coral Sea Dreaming last Thursday and Friday 22nd 23rd sept 2022. We booked last yr but Covid got in the way. So were very much looking forward to our diving trip this yr. On both conversations with last yr owners (Yarnie) and this yr owner (Ivan) I was assured that I had the larger of the double berth bedrooms,,,,on arrival we were sent down below with other couples and told to just pick a berth as they were all the same 😳. We picked a berth at the rear of boat, it had two small windows which were sealed shut. Temperament below deck very hot, so air con is needed for sleeping, which was lovely until it stops at midnight. Sleep was hard to come by as generator which is just behind our berth goes all the time. The yacht takes 12 passengers but it was very squishy fitting that many under the small amount of shade provided and it took 4 hrs out to 1st dive, sunblock was provided and needed. A few apples and very hard pears were offered with tea and coffee on arrival. Odd choice as tropical fruits were abundant, fresh and cheap to get in Rusty markets in Cairns. The ocean was fantastic temperature, crystal clear and no stingers, so diving was wonderful. Lunch was cold cuts and salad with bread rolls, no fruit. Dinner was mince with 3 cans of red beans, burrito's!!! (absolutely revolting for me) no alternative, again no fresh fruit available. You can buy wine, beer $8 or cans of soft drink $4 = bit xxy as it's only $3 at local takeaway. Breakfast toast and cereal, no fresh fruit. Lunch same as day b4. Then back to Cairns. I found Scott (deck hand) very helpful, but Travis, who's very new ( 3rd trip) needs to stop taking about his drugs of choice. There was a french girl (deck hand) but I never saw what she did, except smoke. For the price we paid, I have to say it was disappointing in the end.Written September 26, 2022
- L9848VQcatherineb0 contributionsAn unforgettable experience! What a weekend! Huge thanks to the crew - Roman, Vanessa, Remy and Ellie. They took such incredible care of each one of us. A special mention must go to Vanessa - she handled myself and all the other first timers with such professionalism and made us feel instantly comfortable in the water. I'll never forget my first dive with her. It truly felt like being introduced to a whole new world below the surface. It was so joyful to explore the reef and see and interact with all the little creatures she pointed out. What a beautiful birthday gift that was. By the time the second day rolled around I was confidently swimming around at 11-12m without needing to hold a hand, and I was fluent in diver sign language. I know Ellie and Vanessa were proud. I was too busy enjoying myself to get many photos, but I'll be back just as soon as I can. Thank you again CSD team!Written August 21, 2021
- 282anb0 contributionsExcellent customer serviceWe originally went out with the Coral Sea Dreaming crew in January 2021 and it was excellent! So much so we organised another trip to Cairns mid-year mainly so we could go out with them again. Unfortunately COVID has managed to get in the way, but I just wanted to shout out to the team for being amazing with excellent customer service. Our first trip in January had to be pushed back to later in the week because we had received a test and isolate order on arrival and weren't sure we were going to make the departure time - no problems at all and were able to reschedule seamlessly and the 2 days out at Mill'n reef were awesome. This time we were originally supposed to travel in June but got locked out of QLD due to an outbreak. Nat and the team were amazing and allowed us to reschedule to a later date. This time we managed to get to Cairns but unfortunately no-one else on our fully booked boat could get into the state due to lockdowns and the sail date was cancelled☹️. Alas none of the other available sailing dates fit with our itinerary so the team at Coral Sea Dreaming arranged for us to go out with another provider. Throughout it all the team has been a pleasure to deal with, accomodating and have communicated clearly. While we are saddened we can't get out with them this time we will definitely try again in the future and will be recommending them to all our friends.Written July 18, 2021
- mstepien890 contributionsGreat experience!!!We could not recommend it more! Whole crew and instructors went out their way to make our trip comfortable, safe and fun! With very few divers on board we have had Milln reef only for ourselves! And what a amazing reef that is🥰🥰🥰Written July 18, 2021
- Richard B0 contributionsNice 2 day experienceThe dive instructors were really keen to get us in the water and make sure we had a great time. With the windy conditions, it was good to have them keeping everyone keen to get in! I have done a fair bit of diving and some liveaboards, but my partner has not. So this was the perfect way to get really enjoyable diving for me, but also catering for her only wanting to do snorkelling.Written May 31, 2021
- David N0 contributionsA great night on the Great Barrier ReefMy wife and I, Cairns locals for over 25 years, wanted a nice, relaxing overnight trip to the reef for a bit of snorkeling and star-gazing. Coral Sea Dreaming was exactly what we had been looking for. The small crew were amazing and the snorkeling was great. It really felt more like we were just out there on a friend's boat enjoying the Great Barrier Reef without a worry in the world. We had the cabin right in front of the generator and with the earplugs they had on hand, I didn't find the noise to be a problem. As some other reviewers have said, the vessel is a bit old, but we found it to be clean and free of any smell of mold or mildew. There was plenty of food on offer and snacks were available at all times. Phil took us to some sites which were well-suited to both divers and snorkelers and because we were staying overnight there was plenty of time to enjoy both the water and the hammock. If you're looking for a more relaxed reef trip than what you can get on the day boats, give Coral Sea Dreaming a try. We live here and have our pick of boats to take for a reef trip, but this is the one that we'll be coming back to.Written May 7, 2021
- KateHowell660 contributionsAmazing and super personal experienceMy husband and I had an amazing time on our 2 day, 1 night reef experience with Coral Sea Dreaming. We did the 3 dive package as well as the night dive. The experience was super personal as there is a max 12 passengers. The owner Clare and the dive master Joey were brilliant. Joey was so thorough with our dives and made it a really special experience. The Skipper was also very welcoming and was great to talk to. Can’t recommend this experience enough! We also recommend the night dive- it was a really different way to experience the reef. The food and hospitality was faultless. We will definitely be back next time we are in Far North Queensland and will recommend this experience to friends and family.Written April 19, 2021

WoW what a truly amazing experience and company. Even before getting on the boat they were so helpful. I was meant to travel later on a later date but because of covid restrictions between NSW and QLDS they moved my trip for me 2 time's at zero cost and also offered me a no expiry date voucher if needed as I'm leaving Australia soon and was wondering I might not be able to make it. Luckily I was able to make it to cairns and on the boat. I thoroughly enjoyed my time on coral sea dreaming it being my first live aboard trip it was nice that it was small groups and load's of staff so very personal. Captain Phil was amazing so much knowledge of the reefs, marine life, weather and the oceans and load's of stories. The rest of the team were also great making sure everything is okay. Diving was great especially the morning dive on 3 sisters just bursting with Life I will never forget it. Words just can not describe how good this boat, staff and trip is just truly amazing
If your wanting to spend time on the reef for a few days coral sea dreaming is a must
I will be back hopefully one day again

We are locals and boy-oh-boy was Coral Sea Dreaming a great find! I booked for hubby's b'day, and the whole family (2 teens) loved the overnight trip. From my first initial email query to stepping off the boat after a great trip we were totally looked after (including great local rates). The staff and crew were super friendly, helpful, professional, knowledgeable and absolute fun. It was our first time scuba diving and it's safe to say won't be our last. The highlight for all being the magical night dive. (bucket list must). Each of the 3 different locations we visited on the reef were stunning. Highly recommend. Well done crew.

I had a great diving experience with Coral Sea Dreaming. Highly recommend for a personal attention for diving or snorkeling on the outer reef of the Great Barrier Reef. The staff was helpful and responsive to questions from the time I reserved my spot until I finished my trip. Claire was a great Captain, and the dive instructors : Kevin and Leo held diver safety as priority while we enjoyed our dives. The accommodations are cozy but doable for an outstanding overnight adventure on the GBR. Kevin did a great job keeping us fed. Equipment is top-notch; BCDs were brand new. A staff person/diver led every dive. It was a fun time.

The sailing yacht is 52ft of absolutely luxury. Its spacious with large interior and air-conditioning. It's beautifully looked after and you can tell it's been run by professionals.
The crew are knowledgeable and lovely down to earth people. We felt great taken care of both onboard and in the water. They take their time to explain, answer questions, and make sure everyone feels included.
We didn't plan to dive. We thought that the snorkling and sailing would be enough. But we got too curious when we saw the reaction of the people coming back from their dive.
We both were very anxious about breathing with equipment for the first time but both Joey and Maria was very patient and reassuring which calmed us down. We ended up doing the intro dive, the night dive and the morning dive. The night dive was cut short as we struggled in the dark but we are happy that we tried it and the crew didn't charged us for the dive. We went back in the water the next day and the dive was absolutely unreal. (You get more and more confident and the crew does really look after you. )
The trip felt like a dream. Many thanks to captain Jan and the crew. I would love to come back soon again and bring my family with me.

Extremely friendly and helpful staff as well as highly experienced and informed divers.
It was my first time being on a boat overnight and being so far offshore, which in itself was a daunting experience, they made us all feel safe and comfortable and adjusted to everyone's needs and level of experience.
Would highly recommend this for all first timers as well as experienced divers/snorkelers to explore the reef, it's a small close knit group of experts you get to experience the ocean!

How lucky I feel that Coral Sea Dreaming took my teenagers (13 &15) on their 1st trip to the reef. It was everything & more that a trip to the reef should be! The crew were professional but fun. Both knowledgeable and passionate about the reef. The dive instructors really connected with the kids to make them feel safe and confident to scuba dive. I was able to disconnect from the world and enjoy that boat & the reef in all her glory. Thank you Claire and crew, you’ve certainly ignited a love of the reef in our family.

The overnight trip with Coral Sea Dreaming was incredible and I highly recommend booking this tour if you're looking for an immersive Great Barrier Reef experience.
We did 2 dives per day plus a night dive. I am a certified diver but hadn't dived in a long time. The crew made sure I was comfortable and all dives were guided so there was nothing to worry about. They even helped me put on all my gear for each dive and helped me take it off after (which is great because I am not the strongest person haha). Plus they set up everything for you so no messing around with equipment means more time to enjoy yourself. Plenty of amazing snorkel spots for the non-divers as well.
The living quarters are small and cosy. All meals were included and they catered to me being a vegetarian by cooking a separate dinner and also leaving the cheese out of the salad because I avoid dairy when diving.
I was travelling solo for this trip and loved the fact that they only take small groups out so everyone has a good chance to get to know each other and share a drink or two at night.
The dive instructors Teddy & Vanessa were fantastic. So attentive, easy going and always down for a chat. The skipper, Jan, also a cool guy - looks like he belongs out at sea.
Cannot recommend this trip enough!

We took this amazing trip with our 3 teenage sons. They are new divers and we could not have asked for a better first real dive trip experience. Every detail is thought of from equipment to instruction with plenty of time built in for some snorkeling as well. The night dive was incredible and a must do! The captain , dive instructor and crew take everyone’s skill level into consideration in planning each dive and we all felt completely safe the entire time. Sleeping on a boat in the middle of the Coral Sea is an incredible experience. We can’t recommend this trip enough and thank Roman and Teddy for making this experience one that exceeded all of our expectations!

If you are worried as a snorkeler that you won’t see enough of the reef, don’t. There is so much to see while snorkelling: turtles, reef sharks, so many varieties of fish and coral. Have been to so many islands in the Caribbean and Hawaii to snorkel, and they pale in comparison. So worth it to visit the Great Barrier Reef. It didn’t disappoint!
The crew were very safety conscious and briefed the passengers well on everything from basics to emergencies.
Food was plentiful but cafeteria quality so don’t expect much and you won’t be disappointed. Snacks always available and water too. And jugs of sunscreen too, which was applied often, and always available.
Sadly jellyfish did interfere with enjoyment of the reef but that was the time of year. We didn’t know that when we booked that it was typical for them to be in the reef in February.
Tried to dive, however, the instructor did not seem to understand what I was saying so I wasn’t comfortable continuing. Perhaps if another crew member provided assistance I would have had more success but I feel we saw everything we wanted to, just by snorkelling.
We encountered a storm with lots of lightning and therefore no stars to be seen:(

Hi Lisa,
Thanks for your review. We are so pleased to hear you had a fantastic trip with Coral Sea Dreaming and made some memories of a lifetime of the truly stunning coral, abundant fish life and thrilling sharks. Snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef is surely one of the best ways to experience the reefs especially as the colours are so much more brilliant in the shallows. We agree the jelly can be annoying but we are sure your stinger suit or thick wetsuit kept you safe. We wish you all the best with the rest of you travels and hope you come for another adventure with us soon ><>
Warm regards,
The Dream Team

My husband has a shellfish allergy and we will be doing this tour in a few months. What do the meals consist of? I know it says BBQ, but I have gathered that in Australia that just means meat cooked on the grill and I wanted to make sure that they weren't largely shrimp (aka: prawn).

I think the meals change from four to tour. We had lunch meat and fresh salads, chicken pasta meal, breads, yogurt, granolas, fruit, eggs and potatoes. I don’t remember eating seafood.

Folks. I am a basic diver and I have been certified. On this tour are included diving or are paid separately.

What is the fee (per tank??) For each intro dive?
Written March 23, 2019
Yeah, tanks were included in the cost if you were diving! It was fantastic, and I highly recommend, in case you haven't went/booked yet

Do you provide dive equipment either in the cost or for additional rental charges? I have everything but a tank and weights (but am reluctant to bring it all in my luggage half way around the world) but my husband only has fins and a mask/snorkel set of his own.

Hi Jaclyn,
My partner and I recently went out with Coral Sea Dreaming for a two day, one night trip. The only dive kit we arrived with was swimwear. Everything else was provided. Others used various items of their own kit, so it seems you can bring as much or as little of your own kit as you like.
I can highly recommend this trip. It was our first dive boat trip and neither of us really knew what to expect, but we had an amazing time with a friendly crew and other guests.

What snorkeling sites do you visit during the overnight trip?
Written December 21, 2018
We went to Michaelmas Cay and dove that afternoon and the following morning, then to Hastings for the last dive. I gathered that the sites were decided on because of the windy weather.
