    The Best Aquarium
Excellent services by the staff. Educational to school children also. We have never seen huge stingrays in our lives. Something I just leart as a parent, the stingrays have their eyes and mouth facing down. I was amazed.

    Educational Experience
The aquariums were so well kept and the scheduled talks amazing. We arrived when it opened at 9:30 a.m. and did all 4 scheduled talks between 10:15 - 11:30 a.m. about River Monsters, Denizens of the Deep, Life of Sharks & Rays and Curious & Coloured. The talks were all great!! We were there about 2 and a half hours. It was a great experience to learn about the great barrier reef from a local source.

A great experience at the Cairns Aquarium
What a great tour we had at the Aquarium. Our tour leader Cameron was amazing. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and personable. We learned a great deal about the land and sea animals in the area. We like visiting aquariums when we travel and the Cairns Aquarium is simply a magnificent aquarium with crystal clean water and beautiful exhibits. The 3 course dinner at Dundees at the aquarium after the tour was likewise spectacular. I highly recommend this tour and dinner to anyone visiting the area who has an interest in learning more about the region’s sea animals and the animals in and around the local river systems. I had a great time on my day snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef out of Cairns, but I learned more, and saw more fish species at the at the aquarium, a great complement to my day at the reef.

Coral Conservation tour is a must do!
Highly recommend going to the Cairns Aquarium! One of the best aquariums I've ever been to and a must do if you're in Cairns. It was so cool to go snorkelling on the great barrier reef and then go learn about the interconnections between reef and forest! Also, the coral conservation tour is A MUST DO! This is the first and only coral 'seed' bank in the whole world and the tour brings to life the importance of corals in the great barrier reef and how conservationists and scientists are working to preserve and protect this important ecosystem. Plus, the ticket is a direct donation to the Forever Reef project so you get to learn, see the back house of the aquarium, and donate to a good cause.

It is nice place to go with a toddler to see different sea creatures. Definitely take corral tour to the lab. Turtels tour is also ok, but only three turtles were there in Feb. Overall me and my 5 year old daughter enjoyed it.

We were a small group of four people. That was awesome because there was time for all our questions. Our guide was very knowledgable and could tell us a lot of interesting facts about the animals.

    Fascinating
Great experience, really interesting talks, I especially enjoyed the sharks and rays talk. I love how the aquarium is based around animals and corals you would find in Queensland, it makes it a really unique experience

Was Happy to hear the aquarium had reopened after the Covid 19 experience. Had a lovely morning in the aquarium, kids enjoyed themselves, staff were lovely until we reached the gift shop. Upon entering the gift shop i heard the staff member rudely speaking to a customer who quickly ducked back in(about 3 metres from the exit from the aquarium walking into the gift shop)to get his 2year old who ran back into to look at the fish. She then was openly complaining about him to other customers, whilst rolling her eyes. My daughter picked up an icecream from the fridge. I asked her to put it back as it was too early in the morning. My 10yr old daughter who has spina bifida and Hand contractures(physical disability with her hands) accidently dropped the icecream, still in the packet. The staff member stands up,rolls her eyes, huffing and puffing and yells at my daughter- "you just threw it under the fridge!!!" I was horrified. My daughter walked out in tears, saying she wishes she didnt have disabilities so people wont get angry at her!! This staff member had complained or had a problem with every person that entered that gift shop and is then "yelling" at children with disabilities. If she cant handle dealing with families/Children perhaps she should get a job elsewhere. The customers who pay for their families to enter the aquarium are the reason she has a job in the first place. Perhaps learn some respect or undertake some form of customer service training because her attitude it absolutely disgusting.

As is wont to happen during the monsoon season, rain descended on Cairns on the third morning of my stay in the city. After a hearty breakfast overlooking the water on the Esplanade, I headed over to the Cairns Aquarium for an activity out of the weather. Many others also had the same idea, and the line for entry spilled out onto the street. Nevertheless I reached the ticket window within around 10 minutes and was soon able to enjoy the exhibits.

The Cairns Aquarium is an excellent facility, especially admirable for being a regional attraction. Taking guests through freshwater river and lake systems through to the reef, The interpretation is accessible (despite the odd spelling mistake), with interesting explanations for most species. There was also a good variety of guide presentations available on the day. Shout out to Cameron in particular for his entertaining and listenable style. Well worth visiting.

Was able to see species of fish we haven't seen before so that was a positive. The place was clean and each exhibit was well signed. For us the down side was lining up for over 30 minutes to get in. In my opinion the counter staff should not be accountable for handing out maps and answering questions. The counter staff should get people thru as quick as possible. There should be ushers to answer questions and offer people directions. This would no doubt stop people having to line 50-60 deep out the door. The second negative for us was the price. Unfortunately could not justify to anyone paying $88 for 2 adults for approx 1 to 1 an a quarter hours. Sorry, but seriously overpriced for what you get compared to other activities in the area. Can say we did it thou.

Hi thank you for your feedback 😊 As a privately owned tourism entity, as you are aware we were all impacted in Far North Queensland due to the closure of the Australian and interstate borders over the last year. This has ultimately impacted the level of staff that we have available. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience however, our entire team have been working very hard to ensure that the admissions process is as efficient as possible. We are required as part of our COVID-19 compliance plan to ask questions, check contact tracing check in’s and elaborate on the cairns aquarium map at the admissions desk before guests enter the aquarium itself. Most days this is a relatively quick process, however, on rainy days we may have higher numbers of visitors so the check in process may vary on those days. The admissions price reflects the educational and immersive experience we offer with over 16 000 native animals on site from ecosystems across North Queensland Australia. Throughout the day our wildlife educators also deliver presentations every hour, and we offer additional tours on site such as the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation tour. Again thank you for your feedback 😊 and we are really happy that you enjoyed your visit at the Cairns Aquarium.

The Aquarium is a good place to take the kids, but unless you buy the yearly pass and go quite often it is quite an expensive day out. Also a little disappointing that they don't have a large crocodile given it is North Queensland. The café inside is good because the fish tanks keep the kids entertained.

Hi Jason, thank you for your review! Great to hear that you enjoyed the aquarium and sorry to hear that you were a little disappointed. We've chosen to house only baby saltwater crocodiles, to showcase the importance of mangrove ecosystems acting as nursery grounds for many juvenile aquatic creatures. We hope to welcome you back another time, to see how we grow and evolve over time.

We had about 4 hours at the Aquarium and could have stayed longer. We attended three of the talks which were presented in a humorous yet educational way which helped the information and message to stick. The shark guy was great. The tanks and fish were presented beautifully and showed the progression of water from source to sea and the different environments it covers. We returned that evening to enjoy dinner at Dundees restaurant at the Aquarium which has an enormous tank as the feature wall - truly spectacular.

Firstly I have to say the Aquarium is great. Really well maintained, clean and the display tanks are stunning. Such a variety of colourful and interesting exhibits. The thing that made our visit less than great is that a small number of parents just let their little ones run riot. Now we don't expect littlies to be perfectly behaved all the time, but screaming and squealing children banging their hands on the glass of the tanks isn't what we expected. One 2-3 year old was licking the glass on one tank as his dad looked on, saying to another parent, "he's doing that to everything at the moment." Another toddler happily screaming her head off while mum tells her friend, "she's really finding her voice." This sort of thing really reduced our enjoyment. There didn't seem to be any staff anywhere except giving talks at scheduled times. Should have been a five star review for the actual aquarium but we were in and out in less than an hour which made it very poor value for money. I'd love to go again on another visit to Cairns but I'd check out the after hours deal hoping for a better experience.

Hi thank you for your review! Yes unfortunately, we are unable to staff individuals to roam through the aquarium throughout the day at the moment; as we are still recovering from the last two years during COVID. We are slowly getting our team built up again but we hope you can understand this! Our team do our best to make announcements over the speakers and if they see this type of behaviour we will often say something. However, you can understand our staff are not the parental carers for children coming through the aquarium and so these children are the responsibility of their parents. There is only so much we can do. Thankfully these types of situations are very rare 😊 We would definitely recommend the after hours aquarium by twilight experience if you’re looking to avoid the crowds and visit again for a quieter experience here at the Cairns Aquarium. 😄🐠

The aquarium was well located and easy to navigate. The staff were friendly, helpful and well informed. There was a great range of aquatic animals from sharks to starfish as well as various reptiles and insects. The design of the tanks etc made it easy to see the animals.i thought the price of entry was reasonable, we had a great time and I would recommend the aquarium to anyone visiting the area.

For the family admission price of $140, I do not recommend the Cairns aquarium. We came from Melbourne, missed out in snorkelling due to rough conditions, and this was our plan B so the kids could see some marine life they might have experienced on the reef. This aquarium was lame and overpriced. Compared to the Melbourne aquarium, it was disappointing. Do not waste your money.

Hi Michelle, We’re surprised to hear about your experience at the Cairns Aquarium; given majority of visitors enjoy their journey. Here at the Cairns Aquarium we have over 16000 animals that are native to this region in Far North QLD Australia. We are home to the largest freshwater billabong tank in Australia, the tallest deep reef tank in the Southern Hemisphere and home to a 1.6 million litre oceanarium. We also house over 72 exhibits across 11 ecosystems. And have 2 beautiful immersive tunnel experiences throughout the aquarium. We usually recommend at least 1.5 to 2 hours to go through the aquarium, and stopping off at our daily presentations throughout the day to learn more and catch feedings too😁 We believe our facility is an incredible place to visit to learn all about our native wildlife and ecosystems here in Cairns. Definitely a stop off point to learn, before heading into the wild. We provide an educational and immersive experience for all guests; providing much needed awareness for how important our wildlife and these parts of the world are and how we can all work together to conserve them. 🐠⭐️ Our ticket price reflects the amazing close wildlife encounters and educational experience here at the aquarium; and is in line with other zoo and aquarium experiences through Australia. Your ticket price also helps us care for our wildlife and their habitats so thank you for visiting! 😊🐠

This two-floor layout is jam packed with such a wide variety of marine life and tropical wildlife of Queensland and the reefs. From the mangroves to the rain forests, from marine touch tanks to river monsters, something for everyone. The place also has a number of more detailed displays. One can take a break in the cafe and return to the rest of the aquatic displays on the same day. Awesome experience.

A wonderfully laid out aquarium spread over 2 floors that allows you to join the journey of a raindrop from the tropical rainforest out to the reef. All the exhibits are really well signed and the viewing windows are large so you can see easily. There is a reef talk at the oceanarium at 2pm (tip, the best place to be is upstairs) plus a touch tank and even a video on how the continents were formed. The highlight for me was the turtle hospital (it's sister location is on Fitzroy Island) where I got to meet one of the co-founders Jennie Gilbert who has been working with turtles for over 20 years... her talk was amazing! I loved meeting the patients and hearing the wonderful stories of their rehabilitation - the videos of their release warmed my heart x
