Darryl is a legend. He had a smile on his face and was cracking jokes from the minute we stepped on the dock. It's priceless to get such a knowledgeable guide to take you out.

Darryl took us to several spots to make sure we got a lot of action, and we sure did. We were two couples on the boat and we all had a lot of bites and pulled up several big and powerfull

We didn't see any crocs but we did notice the presence of the notorious bull sharks as they sometimes took the fish of the line before we had time to reel it in, haha!

Overall great day. Darryl sorted Eskys filled with water bottles for us to enjoy which was very helpful on a hot day.

We expected to maybe get one or two fish each but we caught so many we lost count. Above expectations! Definitely recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyed our trip with Barry - what an exceptional man, thank you so much for taking us.

Early morning starts are not always the teens fav, but as soon as we were out of the docks, they were thrilled.

Barry headed out to cast for bait, then off to the first spot. I think with great knowledge of the fishing spots, speed at getting those lines cast and luck of the tides, we caught about 6 fish in very quick succession (all were catch and release). Last line we had a monster and a spectacular fight but the monster won in the end.

We stopped at a number of other great fishing spots along the estuary, keeping an eye out for crocs and enjoying puzzles, laughs and great conversation. While we caught many fish, we were only able to catch one fish that was a keeper but enough for the kids to experience how delicious fresh fish really is.

Thanks to Darryl and Ray and of course Barry, the man at the helm. Looking forward to our next trip to Cairns and fishing adventure with you.

Had an awesome day out on the Russell River with Daryl and 2 others. It was fairly quiet in the morning due the a previous few weeks of heavy rain but Daryl went over and above to put us onto the fish, what a great guy. In the afternoon we bagged a few travali, the highlight of my day was seeing a massive GT strike on my fellow passengers catch and head out to open water. I will never forget that one. An incredible day, thank you Daryl 😊🎣

Dazza was awesome to hang with for the day, he was very informative about anything and everything fishing and was just an all round great bloke. Spoilt for choice for fishing spots and Dazza was very accommodating and patient with us while he was teaching us tips and tricks along the way. Dazza was also super flexible when it come to changing our booking to suit COVID restrictions that popped up unexpectedly. Super chill day, great laughs and better fishing!! Highly recommend Fish Tales Charters Cairns, absolute ripper of a day!

We paid top dollar to get a private charter, the skipper wasn't happy about taking us, frequently saying, too old for this. Tide was wrong, we weren't fro the area so were unaware of this. When we asked if fish were good eating, we were told that's not important. We are keen fishers and like to eat the catch.only positive was looking up the creeks and mangroves and the sea eagle. Would not recommend to friends or family.we will charter our own boat next time.

Due to poor weather I ended up fishing the Mulgrave River twice while in Cairns. On the first day I caught numerous fish trevally, mangrove jack, fingermark, cod and a tarpon. On the second day with Daryl and Fish Tale Charters a group of 6 caught 6 fish between all of us.Fishing can be like this but Daryl had trouble catching enough live bait and took a few hours in all to do so,On the previous day Kerry took about 15 minutes.Daryl fished only a few locations near the mouth of the river, whereas on the previous trip we fished many locations up and down the river to find fish.Whilst being a very pleasant and chatty guide my overall feeling was that Daryl didn't try enough locations and failed to deliver what was expected from an experienced charter operator.

Our skipper Timmy was not a nice person, he didn't want to be there from the start. He was not helpful at all throughout the day. He took any potential fun out of the day, Timmy did everything himself we weren't allowed to touch the rods. He put the bait on, cast them out himself and yelled at us if we did touch the rods when the fish were biting. He even blamed us when the anchor he threw out wouldn't take hold properly. Overall a waste of money and a morning, and to top it off we didn't catch anything!

Super dissappointing charter. It was more expensive than other charters in town but he was friendly and seamed knowledgeable- this is not the skipper. We opted for bait fishing. What we didnt know at the time was 2 hours out of the 4 was spent watching the skipper cast nets for bait. He said bait would be supplied, i didnt think that meant "collected on your time and $$" we would have chosen lures if it meant they got their half day fishing. I have tried to contact them (before deciding to review them) but they do not reply. I would not recommend this charter to anyone. Their are cheaper options who do the normal thing and show up an hour before paying customers to collect bait for the day.
