It was impressive to see them work to keep us safe and on schedule. They ran from one extreme task to another but still made space for humour, and lovely chats. The river was so pretty too, the water was clear and you could see the rocks underneath and you’re surrounded by rainforest, butterflies everywhere. We rode the whole way down a river! - alais20160 contributionsHalf-Day River TubingWe did the half-day river tubing activity, and it was quite nice. I was expecting more of a lazy river vibe, where we just relaxed in the tube while we were carried out by the current, but the water level was too low, so in some parts we had to paddle in order to keep on moving. Depending on your size, this can be an exhausting experience or it can be easy. The unexpected part were the "rapids". There were some areas where we had more of natural small slides in the rapid area of the river, and even though I was not expecting them, it seems like I'm an adrenaline junky, because they were the best part! They were so much fun!! After the activity we got a small snack, which was great because, even though it does not require that much physical activity, you build up an appetite.Written November 19, 2024

They picked up us from Cairns and we spent a unforgettable day knowing all the history of the areas. They were all the time willing to explain and answer all of our questions, hope this review could get the attention that deserves to recognize the great work Esther did for the group during the entire day. We will repeat without hesitation!!!Written November 12, 2024
- WillR93200 contributionsUnderwhelming tubing experienceWe signed up for the river tubing as the white water rafting was not available due to maintenance on the river. We expected it to be exciting however it was more like a lazy river with a few ‘rapids’ chucked in. Ideal for young children, elderly people, or anyone wanting to relax. Not for anyone looking for excitement.Written November 7, 2024

This was a great first time rafting experience for us and we thought good value too, we chose to self drive to the Lake Placid pickup point. Our coxswain Jordon was excellent, he gave us a thorough safety briefing at the start which proved to be invaluable as my wife fell overboard going down one of the rapids, she remembered to hold onto the rope that runs around the outside of the raft and Jordon hauled her back into the raft, all happened in seconds, well done Jordon, you were brilliant mate. Getting wet with the possibility of falling overboard is all part of the thrill, we highly recommend this adventure trip.

Hi Paul, Thanks for the review and glad to hear Jordan took good care of your wife when she went over, it can sometimes be pretty scary to fall out but as you said the guides will have you back in a matter of seconds, highly trained and skilled in all white water rescues our guides will ensure a fun but safe rafting experience.

We were very fortunate to holiday in Queensland in July in the brief window before the borders shut again. And one of the activities that we undertook — and loved — was a white water rafting trip along the Barron River. Foaming Fury has an excellent set-up. They are extremely professional and diligent about safety but at the same time make the experience so much fun. Our guide was Tom — Tommy Longstocking — and we had an absolute blast with him. He was full of entertaining stories and was very knowledgeable about the beautiful landscape and the different rapids. Together with Andy the pair of them guided our two rafts through various levels of difficulty and at no time did we feel in danger, only exhilarated by the thrill of the rushing water. We were allowed to jump in at a couple of points and float down the river which was fabulous and so relaxing — but take note that it's very easy getting into the water while getting back into the raft is another story!! My husband and 16-year-old son and I all loved our rafting trip and would highly recommend.

We had the absolute best time. Our guide Joe was excellent and handled our crazy family (7 of us between 15 and 56) with ease, navigating us through the rapids safely while laughing the whole way. We even stopped several times to jump out of the raft and float down the river. This is such an amazing trip for the whole family and I would absolutely recommend to anyone who like a little adventure and a whole lot of fun.

Absolutely brilliant experience! Would highly recommend to anyone as long as you are prepared to get wet. I was not really sure what to wear so we did not wear swimming costumes but I would highly recommend that you do. There is a slow moving part of the gorge where everybody gets in and swims for a little bit (if you want), by this point we were so wet that it didn't matter so we just swam in our cloths.
The guides do also tell you not to bring anything with you as it will definitely get wet and quite possibly get lost! This is very true!!
I would also recommend you wear waterproof shoes if you have them and if not they have crocs that you can borrow, my partner wore vans and they were soaked within two minutes of being in the boat. They do not allow you to wear thongs
The ride from the top of the gorge down to lake placid at the bottom takes about 1.5 hours. Whilst you are rafting down there is a guide with you at all times to ensure you are travelling in the right direction and having fun. You will get absolutely soaked but have a brilliant time meandering through the rocks and fast water as you travel down the gorge.

Hi jakel9090,
Sorry that you were unsure of what to wear, this is definitely one activity where you will get wet! We usually recommend swimwear or activewear along with shoes with a backstrap as thongs too easy get lost.
Great to hear that you still had a great time, even if you did end the rode a little soggier than planned!

This is a good half day activity if enjoy rafting or would like to try it for the first time. You don't really need much skill to take part, but it helps if you do. If you are a hardcore rafter, then this is probably on the casual side. There were a number of young teens on the various rafts and they handled the tasks just fine. The best part are the guides who are really entertaining. They do a lot of the work on the rafts and heavy lifting. The group sells pictures at the end which are a bit on the expensive side, but depends what you want. This is a good activity to throw in if you've already done the reef and safari tours.

Was such a fun experience! The grade 2-3 rapids were both exciting and cruisy and there were quite a few of them which definitely makes it value for money. We even got to take a dip and let the currents carry us down the river. We were lucky to have Andy to keep us safe!

Picked up by bus from hotel by host Kristina - knew we were up for a great time, very humorous / icebreaker putting you at ease not to take things too seriously with fun & safety a priority. First time for my 14 yo son was priceless. Foaming Fury are an excellent crew gave me & my son an ultimate experience to remember. Jean our rafting guide knew his stuff, couldn’t recommend him and the other 14 guides on the Barron River.

Took the teenagers and they loved it better than their devices (which is saying something). We had guide Spencer who was very skilled and made us feel like we were doing a great job the whole time - there was no fear and he took us the 'hero path' on each white water. The whole process was easy, pic up near the Lake Placid caravan park (but don't use their amenities, pop to the end of the road to use the public bathrooms). Bus up the hill to the top of the river run, and straight back out to your cars again at the bottom. The tour itself is awesome fun, as expected, and good value for the adventure. Be careful if you're booking with an online agent like GetYourGuide - when it says 'River Levy not included' it means you have to pay an additional $30 per person when they pick you up. We didn't know this so it came as a bit of a surprise, but the deal didn't work out any dearer overall. We had originally booked for the afternoon but they called us the day before to offer a morning time. We took it and there were only 5 boats, which was great, but apparently it was very crowded in the afternoon (20 boats) which I can imagine would have been hectic! We wore springer wetsuits in case it was cold, but even in mid winter (July) it was very pleasant in the water and the boat.

What an amazing day it was! My family together with a friend and her 2 sons went to do half day white water rafting down the Barron River. Our guide, Joe, was AMAZING. He made us feel at ease with his friendly and confident nature. His skills in guiding us through the rapids was flawless and we were immediately reassured that we were safe with him as our guide. We highly recommend Foaming Fury Team and will definitely do this exhilarating activity again.

We did this rafting trip after some very heavy rain fall and the river was running 'hot'.
We were not able to do one of the rapids due to safety and had to walk up the side of the river, along the road and then down again which was a bit slippery.
Even though the river was pretty wild we felt safe and well looked after by our guide 'K'. He was great at steering us through the rapids and making sure we knew how to stay safe and what to do if anything went wrong.
It was a great time!!
Not 5 stars because the organisation at the beginning of the trip could be improved.
- arrange for the waivers to be able to be filled out on-line before the trip
- better systems for controlling who had/had not paid the levee fee
Also the shoes provided were horrible and need to be replaced ( I recommend you purchase some cheap ones at Big W instead), some of the helmets need to be replaced too.

Hi toniap2 thanks for taking the time to tell us about your experience. It's wonderful to hear you enjoyed rafting and had a great time!
Thanks for your feedback regarding waiver and levy fees. We do send out text messages and emails to everyone prior to travel which provides a link to complete the waivers online. Sometimes people don't complete the waiver online as requested so we apologise if this interfered with the beginning of your trip.
Regarding the shoes, we are in the process of ordering replacements. As a standard safety protocol all our helmets and other safety equipment is check daily to ensure they are not damaged and in a condition that could compromise the protection and safety of our guests and crew. Safety is our number one priority!
Thank you for traveling with us and we hope you enjoy the rest of your time beautiful FNQ.

Hi There, I don't know how to swim, Still can I do rafting or only someone can swim can do this rafting
Written September 16, 2021
Definitely, as long as you don’t mind getting wet and won’t panic if you fall into the water. You will be wearing a life vest and a helmet and will float once you fall in. They give you opportunities to float down the river on your back. It’s so much fun.

Hi Tan
It’s a half day trip approx 4 hours. We just did it in October last year on our Honeymoon and it was epic. Great vibe, professional, beautiful scenery and heaps of fun. Definitely do it :)

Hi,
The meeting point is at the Lake Placid car park just outside the caravan park. The van will meet you there and take you down to the start of the rafting. It ends just near where you park you car.
Enjoy, it was so much fun. PS the shoes they hire out are just crocs (for $5) but you can wear your own or wear runners.

Hi,
I would like to know what time does the half day tour starts?
Thanks
Written August 22, 2019
If you bring your own, they must have a cover over the heel. No thongs or open toe/heel shoes. If the ones you bring aren't suitable, the guides will let you know on the bus and you can hire crocs for $5
Written August 5, 2019
