About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- P3442TOjenniferr0 contributionsTop end experience without the worry of driving yourself. A trip of a lifetime. My sister in law, husband and myself have just had the most sensational trip of a lifetime. Everyday was so different but extremely interesting with beautiful scenery and great 4wd tracks. Our accommodation along the way certainly wasn’t 5 star, ( understandable being outback Australia) but it was always clean, comfortable and safe. Laurence our guide was extremely knowledgeable and went above and beyond to make sure (when he could) to show us anything extra along the journey. Often going off the beaten track to find amazing little creeks, waterfalls, wild brumbys, flowers or anything a bit different. The food was outstanding and most of the time you got to choose what you wanted to eat and how much. Everything was so fresh and you certainly never went hungry. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone wanting to travel to the top of Australia. Amazing, well worth the money and an experience we certainly will never forget. Thankyou Discovery Tours and Laurence.Written September 20, 2024
- frankc100 contributionsInformative and Fun Tour for FamilyWe are very happy to join this tour. The tour has quite a bit of driving but at the same time never feels boring. Our driver, Mario, had taken good care of everyone along the way. He provided lots of insight and information about various part of the rainforest. The lunch was nice too. The Mossman Gorge was stunning. Would highly recommend this tour, and once again, thank you Mario!Written August 24, 2024
- marianhG4874MT0 contributionsBest outback experience to enjoy Cape York PeninsularAbsolutely fabulous tour . Flew up and drove down the Cape. Laurence our driver and guide was awesome. 3 couples , newly acquainted traveling in a Toyota 7 seater Land Cruiser loved every place and experience. Food fabulous and very plentiful, accommodation varied from basic to luxury but all clean and comfortable. I can thoroughly recommend this tour as a unique way to visit “the Tip” for anyone who wants a genuine outback experience. Thanks for a most memorable 9 days .Written August 15, 2024

- X4446LDsteveb0 contributionsWonderful memories 4 to 12 July 24The hole experience was fabulous. Darryl our tour guide was exceptional. His knowledge and personality elevated the experience. Accommodation whilst basic at times. But was always clean and air-conditioned. The meal proportion were extravagant. Never finished a meal. Prawns ,oysters, mains, and deserts were delightful. Thanks again big fella.Written July 21, 2024
- Roberta Z0 contributionsExcellent TourSteve was excellent guide continuous commentary and great knowledge and history of all the areas we visited and went out of his way to show the group anything they were interested in , 100% recommend this tour and Steve as a truly nice friendly professional person and guide.Written April 23, 2024
- jeremypugh20160 contributionsA lot of time in a bus.Today we did the Daintree Rainforest tour. The highlight was our driver/guide called Mario who was charming and knowledgeable. The downside was that it felt like we spent most of the day in the bus. We probably went an hour out of our way for 15 minutes on Cow Bay beach and a stop for the worst ice cream in Queensland. It would have been so much better to spend more time at Mossman Gorge. Wouldn't do it again or recommend it.Written April 5, 2024
- Fan Z0 contributionsGood and recommend. The trip is well organized and the driver(tour guild) is very experienced and explain the details of every sceneries. Very good trip!Written October 2, 2023
- 552jakobh0 contributionsGood but way too expensiveVery little information beforehand. We expected more than 2 day trips and just 3 nights when it was proclaimed to be 4 say trip. Not that much rainforest walking included. River cruise was nice and the guides were cool. But 900 dollar per person is very expensive for 3 nights at a 3-star hotel and 2 one-day tours. Would not recommend unless you have the money for it.Written September 12, 2023
- suekT9213VD0 contributionsParonella parkJust brilliant. Just would’ve liked more time at the park. It is so interesting the history but the gardens are just amazing.Written September 4, 2023
- Tracy K0 contributionsWell organized day to see sights south of CairnsWe did this tour with small kids and although it seemed geared more towards older adults, it worked out nicely as a more relaxed tour day fof us. The waterfalls and short walks are beautiful and enjoyable. A lot of driving is involved (some windy roads) but the sights are worth it and the path was mostly a large loop so much to see and appreciate. Great way to see a lot in one day, well managed and coordinated. The waterfalls, curtain fig tree, and rainforest walks were all excellent. The lake stop was misty and rainy so the views weren't there for us but we will greatly enjoyed the scones and coffee and other things to see. However the highlight for us was the stop James made to see a wild platypus viewing area - we saw one swimming around and it was amazing! 🤩Written August 17, 2023
- Q7743NTkimc0 contributionsUnique and incredible tour and guide<3Michelle gave us an amazing tour with my family! She was incredibly accommodating and knowledgeable! She helped when I started to feel sick, was flexible with our touring itinerary, and overall shared a ton of information about Australia/Cairns. It was such a unique experience and so much fun.Written August 11, 2023

- travelerMelbourne0 contributionsA must-do Daintree day tourThis whole day (11 hour or so) small group tour packs in essential highlights of Daintree region including pick up/return from accommodation from Cairns/ Palm Cove, Port Douglas (including loo stop), Mossman Gorge (damper for morning tea plus elevated boardwalk through lower rainforest canopy to Rex Creek Suspension bridge and lookout), Daintree river cruise for croc and other wildlife spotting (1 hour), lunch at Daintree Tea House (including a tropical fruit talk by Richard), Daintree ferry crossing, Cape Tribulation (Kulki lookout and Cape T beach), fan palms at Madja boardwalk, and Floravilla ice cream plus audience participation with sing-along on the way home. Michelle was simply amazing with her infectious enthusiasm and knowledge. Thank you for a wonderful day despite the afternoon rain!Written August 5, 2023
- CydnHank0 contributionsEasy way to book 3 days of activityBooked this 3 Day package because it seemed easier than doing 3 separate bookings. The GBR experience was wonderful. Even with the rough weather, we enjoyed our time out there. While we saw some beautiful sights and had an excellent lunch on the Daintree Tour, our small group tour exceeded the stated 14 people and the extra pick up and drop offs (as well as time needed to herd 21 people about) made for a less than perfect experience. The train/sky rail to and from Kuranda are breathtaking. However, many of the food purveyors and shops were closed because it was a Monday (?) not sure if this is normal for that time of year or a post-covid fall out.Written August 2, 2023

I was in Cairns for work and had a weekend to do something so after much searching found Discovery Tours Australia Premium Daintree One Day Tour. What appealed most was the fact the tour had a maximum of 14 people because as a 50 year old male I wasn keen sharing a big bus with a group of backpackers. Yes the price was a little more expensive but when that Mercedes bus pulls up you know you made the right decision.
Steve was our tour guide and you could not ask for a better guide. He was very knowledgeable and the whole day he amazed us with all the facts and figures of the Daintree and surrounding areas. I will say his dad jokes need a bit of work but he literally made this tour what it was and if this is the standard then he has set the bar very high.
It was a 12 hour day from start to finish and it ran like clock work. It was a little rushed at times but with so much to see and do it was very good. For me Mossman Gorge was the pick of the day with Cape Tribulation a close second but the ice cream at the end of the day was the icing on the cake. I highly recommend the Australian Honey which is made with raw honey from the Daintree.

An absolutely perfect day in Daintree with Steve. He was so knowledgeable and passionate about Daintree and the surrounding areas, and the ecosystem of the rainforest. Full of interesting facts and stories providing an almost constant commentary throughout the day. He made the trip so enjoyable and even added a couple of extra bonus sights for us along the way.
Mossman gorge was beautiful and very refreshing for a cool down dip, lunch stop was beautiful food in the heart of the rainforest and cape tribulation was well worth the visit.
Yes it’s a long day, but with limited time in Cairns it was absolutely worth it and the day passed quickly. Would not change the trip at all and would highly recommend this trip to anyone looking to explore Cairns and the fabulous surrounding areas.
Thank you Steve for such a great day

I had a fabulous time on this trip. I appreciated having a smaller group size, as it was easier to wrangle everyone on/off the bus and spend more time sightseeing. The bus was also quite comfortable.
What really made the day though, was our guide, Michelle. Her energy and enthusiasm were infectious and she made everything so much fun. From announcing the Big Barra to making us take Instagram-worthy photos to her "rivalry" with a fellow tour guide, there was never a dull moment. I typically doze off on long car rides, but I somehow stayed awake the entire time because she was always telling a story or providing interesting commentary.

Thank you very much for your kind words and we are thrilled that you enjoyed your day . I'm glad that Michelle was able to help you to experience this area with plenty of time at each of our attractions. Being a small group tour, we do try to take the time to allow flexibility in your day. Our day is as much about the people as it about the area we visit and our guides do go above and beyond because they love it as much as you. I will pass on your fabulous feedback to Michelle. Thank you for traveling with us.

We would say the overall experience was so so with some highs and lows. The challenge of this tour is that many spots are packed together and thus, you will feel rushed. The roadwork ( owing to the recent cyclone) will slow you down.
However. The drive along the cook highway by the sea is truly amazing. A short stop at the port douglas. Then off to the Mossman village for a tea break. Then was the race against time to get the ferry across the river that carries the vehicles over. We felt the experience was more enjoyable post lunch where we took the boat ride on the daintree river for crocodile viewing and then headed to Mossman gorge for a great walk. The drive back to Cairns was even more beautiful as the sun was setting and the rays of the setting sun just had turned the sea to gold. We were lucky to have a good weather. Also note the van size is quite small so some may find the seating a little cramped.

We booked this as part of a package. We saw some beautiful sights and had a wonderful lunch. However our day was marred by the fact that the "small group" tour ended up being over 20 people. The bus driver, Mario, did a great job (as it was not his fault) but the larger group meant that more time was spent on pick/up and drop off. I felt we had less time in Mossman Gorge than needed and the day extended to over 12 hours for us.

What an excellent trip! It’s a busy day but you get a taste of the many sights and activities in the area. It was nice to be traveling in a smaller group.
Our guide Steve was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and kept us upbeat in somewhat inclement weather. He went above and beyond to take us to an extra stop or two. We appreciated his stories about each destination and throughout the trip!
Highlights for us were the Mossman Gorge, Cape Tribulation, river cruise with crocodile sightings, and restaurant visit with subsequent fruit lesson!

This tour started early since we had to collect people from both Cairns and Port Douglas before heading into the Daintree. Steve, our guide picked us up at 7am and by 9am, we had the van of 16 people and headed to Mossman Gorge. We then went onto the Daintree, Cape Tribulation, finishing at a great little ice cream shop.
Steve was excellent, both with his knowledge, experience of the land, and sarcasm which helped on a long day's trip.
Honestly, you cover a lot of ground on this tour and it can seem a bit rushed, but it's a very good rate for what you experience. Drinking water is not easily accessible so be sure to bring a large water bottle. This tour should provide more sights to refill, not purchase plastic along the way. Overall, well worth it.

AVOID!!!!
Jumping onto the tour bus with full excitement & reasonable expectations, I returned back to my hotel with exhaustion and disappointment.
Here are some of the few things I was dissatisfied with:
1. The rude tour guide who always wanted to rush: After breakfast, not being advised of the departure time, I went to the loo and came back "late" to the van, the tour guide greeted me with an unnecessary side-eye.
After spending $5 on one of the worst ice creams I've ever had in my life, (with an unreasonable $0.5 surcharge if you are an unlucky guy like me who never carries cash with him living in the 21st century), the tour guide drove us to a "viewpoint" where half of the view was blocked by trees. We were told to "chill" with the ice cream and enjoy the "view" for a while, however not even after 2 mins at the location, the exhausted tour guide started rushing everyone back to the van.
At that time, most of the people haven't even finished a quater of their overpriced ice cream. He agreed to stay for 5 more minutes with the detests from most of the people. Most of us ended up returning to the van with their ice cream unfinished.
2. Lunch was disgusting. Chips were unsalted, unflavoured, and cold in very small portions. The menu says there will be a glass of wine served with all choice of meal, guess what, it never happened.
Seriously tho Nobody gave a flying **** about the history or stories about fruit, we are here to see the scenery and learn knowledge about the tropical rainforest, cut it off.
3. One of the ladies felt ill and the tour guide doesn't even have Panado or a first aid kit in his van, she had to ask around for something so basic.
There are lots more.....
I have spoken to a few other people from the same group and everyone experiences the same.
One star is a total fair rating for this tour.

Our guide James (Jim) was amazing! He is an absolute wealth of knowledge of not only the area but of the plants and critters who live in it. He was able to point out a lot of things for us to see that we would never have noticed on our own. It is evident that he loves his home and what he does! The tour was really good. The natural beauty of the area is wonderful and it was amazing to see such old/thought to be extinct plants and trees. The ride on the Daintree river was very nice (though we did not see much in terms of wildlife - can't expect it everytime so no big deal). The tea break and lunch were very good. The owner of the restaurant that we stopped at for lunch was incredibly knowledgeable about all of the tropical fruit that grow in Australia. The ice cream stop was also very good. It is definitely a long day as you travel from place to place but a very nice day to get out to see the rainforest and nature this area has to offer.

Highly recommend this all-day tour. We are a couple in our late 30s/early 40s and wanted to see the area without having to rent a car ourselves. This was a great solution. Pick-up and drop off at the hotel in Cairns was super easy. Steve was a fantastic guide. He was very knowledgeable and kept the group's spirits high throughout the day, despite the rainy weather. The morning stop for breakfast was delicious, and lunch was fantastic as well. Overall, the day was paced perfectly with the right amount of breaks and timed allocated at each location.

Thank you very much for your kind words and we are thrilled that you enjoyed your day and your lunch at the Daintree Tea House. I'm glad that Steve was able to help you to experience this area with plenty of time at each of our attractions. Being a small group tour, we do try to take the time to allow flexibility in your day. Our day is as much about the people as it about the area we visit and our guides do go above and beyond because they love it as much as you. I will pass on your fabulous feedback to Steve. Thank you for traveling with us.

Do you pickup from sea temple palm cove

Not sure. However they came from Cairns with passengers to pick us up at Port Douglas so it makes sense they could pick up at Palm Cove on the way.
Hope this helps

Hi. I booked last week for a trip on Wed 28 April requesting a pickup at the Doubletree Hilton. Can you please confirm if this will be all right and what the pickup time will be?
Thanks very much.

We are staying in an airbnb in Smithfield. Where will the pickup be?

Since you have the premium tour I would think they will pick you up at your door. Best to contact the tour company and ask.

I cannot remember exactly. We travelled in a small minibus with 8-10 people. It was a great day out with a knowledgeable guide. We had an excellent lunch provided too.
