Technology has taken a major step forward to present 2 iconic displays - Royal Flying Doctors and Bombing of Darwin in WWII. Bombing of Darwin - hologram short story, 360 deg goggles to immerse yourself in the bombing of Darwin, air raid signals and video recreation of the bombing where you can feel like you are part of it. Royal Flying Doctors - hologram short story, walk through an actual aircraft that was used by the service, 360deg views from the nurse and the pilot.
The gift shop is fully equipped with souvenirs and all staff are friendly and helpful.
3hr Parking is available on the wharf out the front of the building.
The aircon is pretty good too when you come inside from the heat :)

this is Situated at the end of the dock , right where WWII started

The VR show was brilliant. I am not a real WWII buff so this was right up my alley. Just really paints the scene of what went down on that day in 1942

There is also a theatre room which shows an information session about the Royal Flying Doctor service and WWII

Down the back is one of the planes you can climb in and read and listen to some some stories

The ladies in there are super helpful

An engaging, well-considered and stimulating exhibit that presents two iconic chapters of Darwin, and Australia’s history. An excellent balance of written, visual and immersive content. 3hrs free parking on the wharf is a bonus, and staff are great. Take the time and your good will to invest 1-2hrs in this valuable asset in understanding another fine example of Australian resilience and innovation.

We nearly didn't go as we had already been to RFDS in Broken Hill but we were advised to go to see the WWII exhibits. Sooo glad we did! The VR immersive bombing of Darwin experience is so emotional. Don't worry the lovely lady was right there with the tissue box. Also east to get to as we caught the free HOHO bus there and back.

This facility has something for everyone. From the holographic exhibits, the informative documentary movies to the virtual reality headsets that make you feel like you are part of history. The scenes were very realistic and confronting. Learning about the history of the RFDS was amazing and as a nurse I felt very proud of how advanced the flying medical services have developed over the years. The plane on display gives an insight into the conditions staff were working in. This was one of the best museums I have visited and highly recommend it to everyone.
