Your tour begins with an early-morning pickup from your Darwin hotel and an around 2-hour drive to Kakadu aboard an air-conditioned bus. During the journey, listen as your guide tells you about Kakadu National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site spanning an incredible 20,000 square miles (32,180 square kilometers). Hear how the park is famous for both its natural wonders—including its large population of crocodiles and other wildlife—and its cultural heritage, with a long history of occupation by Aboriginal communities. On arrival, the first stop of the day is Nourlangie Rock, a dramatic sandstone monolith nicknamed the “desert museum” for its remarkably preserved examples of ancient Aboriginal rock art. Take a guided scenic walk around the rock, stopping to peek into ancient cave settlements, admire the artworks etched into the cliffside, and learn more about the park’s earliest inhabitants. After a break for a picnic lunch (included), hop aboard a boat for a cruise along the Yellow Water billabong. Take in the unique landscapes of Kakadu as you glide through its wetlands and mangrove swamps. Along the way, look out for native wildlife, most notably the saltwater crocodiles that can often be seen lazing along the banks. The final stop of the day is at the Warradjan Cultural Centre, where you’ll gain an even deeper understanding of Kakadu’s indigenous heritage and the importance of the native lands to the Aboriginal community. Return to the bus for the return journey to Darwin, where your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.

My Mum,brother and I this trip with AAT Kings as an overnight as part of our 6 day NT now tour.So glad we did it this way as a day trip would have been exhausting. So much to see,Kakadu is huge.Loved the yellow waters tour and climbing Nourlangie, stunning views and some very interesting aboriginal rock art.We did another boat cruise called the Guluyambi Cuteral cruise which was run by young aboriginal man and was so educational. We stopped off briefly at Ahnern land and he even demonstrated some spear throwing for us.Highlight for me was probably the lookout from Ubirr. The wide open landscape that seemed to go on forever was just breathtaking.Everywhere was lush and green which just added to the beauty. We were pleasantly surprized by our overnight accomadation at the Mercure Crocodile Hotel. Our rooms were very comfortable and had lovely big swimming pool just outside our door which we made good use of.The resturant had very nice meals. The bus was very comfortable and we really appreciated being able to top up our water bottles with lovely cold water from the eskys on the bus.Anthony, our guide and driver was very kind and patient as well as knowing some many interesting facts about this stunning part of Oz.Thank you very much AAT kings for a jam packed, but wonderful 2 day tour of Kakadu. We loved it.

This seems like a good way to see a lot, however, you spend 6 hours in the coach (3 hours each direction). The aboriginal paintings are interesting, but after riding for 3 hours and spending $230 US, it would have been nice to have an interpretor or someone who would go through the area to explain things from the Aboriginal perspective. We did stop at a cultural center for an hour later, but again, there was nobody to explain things. There were pictures and printed explanations, but it was very impersonal.

Gary was fabulous, he dropped off our water bottle after a 14 hr day! We really appreciated that! Thanks Garry, you had kind friendly personality hard keeping 30+people on time!

The tour itself for us as a young family probably wasn’t the best choice. We spent majority time on the bus. We should have chosen a more interactive tour, maybe meeting with elders, Community and real life experiences. For sightseeing in the comforts of a bus it checks all the box’s.

The river boat add on, was great our tour guide on the boat was very knowledgeable and a great personality. I wish caught his name! Next time we will try the flight tour. I wish I knew about that before, looked fabulous!

Well organised, great tour. We did the 4 day Kakadu and Arnhem Land. Amazing- a must do. We saw so much and learned a lot. Beautiful scenery, comfortable transport and accommodation and the local indigenous tour companies offered really good quality tours on the country.

First off -it’s a long day! 14 hours from pick up to drop off. Rock art, river cruise, and cultural centre all expertly managed by Warwick. We had an “incident” with someone wandering off at the rock art site, his efforts and concerns were first rate. The day was well managed thereafter around the lost time to get everything in and it never felt rushed.

Comfortable coach and First class lunch too! It’s a stretch to scratch the surface of this vast area but if you only have a day then this is definitely worth doing

This is definitely a great one day trip for anyone visiting Darwin and wanting to see as much as possible in say a week. The coach has several pick-up points very early in the morning before hitting the highway. We saw an amazing sunrise on our travels.
We passed through Humpty Doo which is home to the boxing crocodile 😁 before stopping for coffee at Corroboree Park Tavern and it was really good coffee.
Drove for a couple hours to arrive at the Gunwarrdehwarrde Lookout. This is a 1km loop to the top of the lookout and there are indigenous cave paintings on the rocks plus some of the areas reminded me of Picnic at Hanging Rock.
From here we drove to Cooinda and had lunch at Mimis Restaurant- awesome feed and very fresh salads. Our final activity was the Yellow Water Billabong Cruise (check out my separate review on that).
There's also an opportunity for anyone interested in doing a 50 min scenic flight if there are any spaces available - the friends we travelled with thoroughly recommended it.
Drive home is about 2 to 2.5 hours and most people would be back at their hotels by 8pm

This tour has been the absolute highlight of our time in Kimberley and Darwin. Kakadu is breathtaking: a truly spiritual place. Mel was a great tour leader- knowledgeable, articulate and efficient in ensuring everything ran smoothly. The Yellow Waters Tour was fabulous and Matt was not only highly entertaining but clearly so passionate about Kakadu. If you get the opportunity for the optional extra of the flight over Kakadu- do it; it is brilliant.
