Your tour begins with an early-morning pickup from your Darwin hotel and an around 2-hour drive to Kakadu aboard an air-conditioned bus. During the journey, listen as your guide tells you about Kakadu National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site spanning an incredible 20,000 square miles (32,180 square kilometers). Hear how the park is famous for both its natural wonders—including its large population of crocodiles and other wildlife—and its cultural heritage, with a long history of occupation by Aboriginal communities. On arrival, the first stop of the day is Nourlangie Rock, a dramatic sandstone monolith nicknamed the “desert museum” for its remarkably preserved examples of ancient Aboriginal rock art. Take a guided scenic walk around the rock, stopping to peek into ancient cave settlements, admire the artworks etched into the cliffside, and learn more about the park’s earliest inhabitants. After a break for a picnic lunch (included), hop aboard a boat for a cruise along the Yellow Water billabong. Take in the unique landscapes of Kakadu as you glide through its wetlands and mangrove swamps. Along the way, look out for native wildlife, most notably the saltwater crocodiles that can often be seen lazing along the banks. The final stop of the day is at the Warradjan Cultural Centre, where you’ll gain an even deeper understanding of Kakadu’s indigenous heritage and the importance of the native lands to the Aboriginal community. Return to the bus for the return journey to Darwin, where your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.

Worst experience ever. Do not use
This was the worst experience. Nothing but cattle herding. When we had a person from our group sick they didn’t care. Would not let us on the bus without all persons from the group. It did not matter to them. They only care about getting as many people through as possible. No concern for comfort or experience as long as they get paid. Seriously do not use this operator.

We also did the Jumping crocodiles & Kakadu tours. I would heartily recommend them to anyone looking for knowledge, informative & fun guides and a memorable experience. We enjoyed all 3 tours we did enormously.

Kakadau,Katherine and Litchfield great (But read the review )
we did Kadua. , Litchfield Katerine gorge all brilliant , but as other people have mentioned they are very long tours , we did one per day ( BIG MISTAKE ) 6AM start at hotel 8/9 PM return , to early for hotel breakfast , couple of pee breaks on the trip up , maybe a muffin not long enough for 20/30 people to order a coffee, these locations are nowhere near Darwin and you will spend 70/80 % of that time on the coach , with a couple of swimming holes ( they were beautiful ) but by the time you walked down the track , got your swimmers on , one place had no facilities so we got changed out in the open on a rock , then get through the crowd jump in , its time to go , so be prepared with swimmers on already , the commentary along the way was informative , but a tad boring , as there is literally nothing to see along the way ,( flat burnt out vegetation , a few birds and the odd wallaby ( not roos ) so the driver does a good job of commentary about almost nothing , until you arrive at the highlights that are worth the long drive , Now here the kicker people if you do the three locations ,DONT do them separately (14 hour tours each trip) because there is only one highway up there , we saw the same stuff, same commentary, different drivers same blurb , we met a few that took all three but stayed in hotels up there (as they are all in the same region) cost is much the same but you actually can spend more time at the venues without rushing and no coach time , coming back into Darwin at 9 PM is pretty dodgy and nowhere to eat other than a dodgy Maccas. You will thank me if you take the advice they are great locations , long tedious drives

Overpriced tour for what you get and not really worth it.
Long ferry trip - 2.5 hrs each way. Island not well kept and not inviting on arrival. Tour was guided by local Tiwi who showed us what was described on the tour. Lunch was sandwiches and salads all fresh. My Partner who came with me on this tour for a second time, took this tour 25 years ago and observed minimal significant improvements. Disappointed as I wonder where the funds go to what appears to be an overpriced tour. I do hope some funds do go to the communities.

Fantastic guide for Kakadu and Katherine.
Fabulous 3 day tour of Kakadu and Katherine, including jumping crocs cruise, wetland cruise and Katherine Gorge cruise. I can't speak highly enough of our guide Libby. Her depth and breadth of knowledge were brilliant! A great sense of humour too. She also showed her first aid skills when one of our party cut his scalp on a rock overhand on one of the walks. Absolute legend

          Nice day trip
Good timings - pick up 7.30. Drop off at 5pm. Not huge amounts of commentary but a nice helpful driver. Main focus is Litchfield Park waterfalls. Florence Falls pretty rushed in the time allowed - down the steps 5-10 min in the water and walk back via Shadey Creek. Nice though. Tolmer Falls ok and Wangi Falls was great! Enough time and great swimming. Could let go of stopping at airstrip on Stuart highway with cardboard plane cutouts and just focus on the park.

          Crocs Great. Driver Not
Crocodiles were huge. We saw about 4 hungry crocs in their natural habitat. Super cool. Our drive/guide Warren was not good. Unhelpful, very vanilla in his commentary and driving not great. Company should hire passionate safe driver guides, very dissapointing. Enjoyed the bus plus fellow traveller's who were all excited for what is so symbolic to the nt.

Katherine Gorge and oh so much more - Adelaide River, Edith Falls, good food and crocodile spotting.
Bus Driver Libby provided wonderful local insights throughout the journey, making our tour memorable and enjoyable with her off-the-cuff humour adding to the fun, not to mention her skillful driving.

An absolutely fantastic Top End experience!
We had a wonderful day with Darren who was really informative about the Park's history and aboriginal culture. The swimming holes were spectacular and the termite mound site mind-boggling, especially with regard to the life cycle of the termites themselves. I would absolutely recommend this day tour to anyone visiting the Top End!

          Alternative Adult Trips
Some tours on large group buses appeal to many but this trip was not worth the cost nor the time Katherine and the gorge is a long drive from Darwin leaving at 6.15 am and returning at 9 pm. For such a drive the tour needed music or animated commentary. We got neither While our guide Warren was pleasant he was beige. The driver Roman was excellent. However a large bus half full with different nationalities deserved more details than pre written summaries Without being too critical it was as if the guide had a job to do and it would get done. No animation in describing the road in and missing detail on a number of interesting sights along the journey Only one swimming stop and a gorge cruise cut short when 2 hours was promised. Casey the boat guide was fine , a local but the only one we heard from I would strongly suggest taking a small group tour as most on the large bus slept on the journey , which anyone can do in their hotel AAT Kings needs to revamp its itinerary , hand out history of Darwin sheets , play some music to keep us awake and chose stopping spots better than twice at Adelaide river there and back.

A Sound trip to the Tiwi with Authentic Aboriginal Guides
I enjoyed this pricy but very interesting tour. The Tiwi Aboriginal guides made it and were interesting funny great sensor of humour and caring. The trip started off chaotically with the ticketing process which took too long. The boat trip was 3 hours and it was choppy. And likewise on the return. The crew were helpful in handing out bags to those feeling ill. The ferry was fully loaded. On arrival the darlings customers were split into 2 equal groups and we proceeded with the tour. We wandered around visiting a good museum and old Catholic Church. The guide gave us some stories of founding of Christianity on the Tiwis and the relationship with the first priest and the islanders. We then visited an art museum which you could purchase locally made items. Lunch was a standard buffet salad and was very tasty. Tea coffee and water were supplied. Then we had the guides paint themselves up and did some cultural dances. These were good and interactive. Finally a bus tour around the town and before we knew it, it was time to farewell our guides. It was a great experience and I felt enriched with knowledge about our First Nation People from the Guides. The ferry trip was very quite choppy and there was some illness on board but sealink staff handed out sick bags it took 3hours. Overall a great tie-me made special by the guides.

If you like seeing Highways and short stops then this tour is for you. I left feeling like I never saw Kakadu. The yellow waters cruise was wonderful and seeing the Aboriginal rock art but basicly thats all you get to do ! Lunch was below standard buffet covered in flys . The tour also never included all stops advertised like the Warradjan Cultural Centre which is cloesed down. Big waste of money tours to Lichifeld National Park are much better value and in my oppinion a mch better use of time, If going to Kakadu I would recomend doing a 2 day tour instead as a day tour will leave you disapointed

Hi Christophor J, Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. It is unfortunate to hear that you had a disappointing time on or Kakadu National Park tour. We understand that travelling to Kakadu is a big day and we try to create the itinerary so you can still view the amazing aspects of Kakadu within a reasonable timeframe. - unfortunately during your visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre was closed for refurbishment which resulted in more time at the Mercure Crocodile Hotel. We appreciate your feedback and will look at what we can do for future touring to make the most out of our Kakadu National Park Day Tour. Many thanks, The team at AAT Kings.

Late pick up, it took over an hour after pickup before we left Darwin. They picked up people for 2 different tours, then took us all to the Mantra on the Esplanade, unloaded us, did another COVID check in, piled us back into our buses, did another head count, people on the wrong bus had to get off and change buses, another head count, finally away he rushed us at every destination reminding us that we're 20 mins late here, 20 mins late there. Driver was distracted. Get organised people. We missed attractions. When we finally were on time, he held us up another 20 minutes because he couldn't remember how many pax went on an additional activity and thought we were waiting for someone else to get on the bus. Did a roll call to finally remember. Had to change buses at Jabiru to come home, that bus driver yelled at one of the passengers from our original tour as he and his elderly parents were late getting onto his bus. When I tried to help, he yelled at me, no apology. He got better after that though. Will never book AATKings again. Had a nice experience with another tour company though on a different trip

This is definitely a great one day trip for anyone visiting Darwin and wanting to see as much as possible in say a week. The coach has several pick-up points very early in the morning before hitting the highway. We saw an amazing sunrise on our travels.
We passed through Humpty Doo which is home to the boxing crocodile 😁 before stopping for coffee at Corroboree Park Tavern and it was really good coffee.
Drove for a couple hours to arrive at the Gunwarrdehwarrde Lookout. This is a 1km loop to the top of the lookout and there are indigenous cave paintings on the rocks plus some of the areas reminded me of Picnic at Hanging Rock.
From here we drove to Cooinda and had lunch at Mimis Restaurant- awesome feed and very fresh salads. Our final activity was the Yellow Water Billabong Cruise (check out my separate review on that).
There's also an opportunity for anyone interested in doing a 50 min scenic flight if there are any spaces available - the friends we travelled with thoroughly recommended it.
Drive home is about 2 to 2.5 hours and most people would be back at their hotels by 8pm

The tour itinerary was totally different from the one that was sent via email.

The tour guide repeated herself multiple times throughout the day about the process. But did not mention once how it was different from the one sent via email.

1 bus picked us up from our hotel and dropped us at another hotel. Then we had to get on another bus. This wasn’t mentioned and added 30 minutes into the trip.

Instead of heading home after all the things were finished on the itinerary the bus driver went out to Jimbaru to pick up staff to bring them back and then pick up people from a plane ride. This wasn’t in the emailed itinerary and added an hour to the trip.

I raised this with the bus driver in the afternoon and she was incredibly rude. She said I’m just a bus driver raise it with AAT kings. I said I will thanks for letting me know. Then she kept talking for 5 minutes trying to justify us being home 1.5 hours late.

I ordered a bus tour, not a public bus that picks up everyone at AAT Kings choosing.

We left at 6am and did not get back to 8pm. So I was stuck in the bus for an extra 1.5 hours.

Please don’t waste peoples time. Who wants to get back at 8:30pm when in the email it said 7pm.

I did 3 different tours with AAT kings. I used them in Uluru and had a great experience. Not great in Darwin though. They are very very long days and the itinerary is strict, a bit boring and you end up spending most of the time in the bus. I’ll give them kudos for the lovely cold water though. One driver guide I had for Katherine Phil I found to be very rude and didn’t seem to want to be there. Garry I had for Litchfield. He was a good guide but very softly spoken and difficult to hear. Rebecca a newer guide for Kakadu was lovely but still has a lot to learn. We had a few issues that day and some customers were really awful to her but she was nothing but polite. I found the Kakadu day trip a waste of time and money except for when I did the fly over. It was glorious. So glad I did that. Very very long days and most of it is sitting in the bus. Just not very good itineraries and better hiring a car and doing yourself.

Excellent full day tour that I took from Darwin. I stayed at the Hilton and they had hotel pick up (early start. 6.20am in the morning). WE had a large tour group this day and there was plenty of comfort stops on the way. Excellent driver/tour guide (1 person) who managed everything on the day. I did the optional flight over Kakadu (about 8 of us paid for this extra) and the rest of the tour bus went onto the Cultural centre (if you do the flight, you will miss out on the Culture centre). The flight was excellent, small plane with about 8 passengers and if you are tall, just a warning not alot of leg room. Great experience flying over and the waterfalls. The yellow waters and looking for crocs on the water was great, there was a great guide on the boat who was very knowledgeable and shared alot of First Nation knowledge/history. We did see a few crocodiles. There was a buffet lunch on offer that is included on the tour price. Well round tour. Ensure to take a bottle of water of you on the bus, they also have cold water stored under the bus so you can refill it during the day. It was a long day but a very enjoyable day. We also saw some rock art during the tour. It can get hot in the day, so ensure to have your sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat I recommend.

Sad to say the worst tour we have done.Tour guide gave confusing instructions, so over 50 people got off the bus at places not sure what to do. And then we were made to sit on the bus for 50 minutes waiting for people that took the scenic flight

AAT Kings organised a 3 day tour from Darwin but staying at Jabiru and Katherine overnight and including 3 different river excursions. The jumping crocs, a wetland cruise and Katherine Gorge. All very different but equally spectacular.
Cam(eron) our tour guide and driver was superb both in commentary and information but also keeping us moving on a tight schedule over long days. There is a lot packed in and a reasonable level of fitness is required.
Where we were a small group (17) and the fitness levels not too dissimilar this worked well, but even with one or two that were less able, some of the timing at locations was compromised. I feel this could be more of an issue in a larger group. The small group also helped with bonding where you are in close proximity for 3 days.
The cave/wall art is special and very much the better for having a knowledgeable guide to both locate and explain it. Many of the places would be hard to find and plan other than with a professional tour company.
The views both over the wetlands and in the gorges were extremely varied and all spectacular. The variety of flora and fauna was just amazing and again so helpful to have a guide to both spot it and explain it.

We used AAT Kings both here and at Uluru and would highly recommend them

Joined the tour with AAT Kings and was the first pick up at 6am. Michael the driver / tour guide was great. There was only 11 of us in a big new coach. Along the way we saw Wallabies, wild horses, cattle. First stop was the Corraboree Park and Tavern where there 2 buffalos and a big pig, fresh water croc and a salty croc that greeted us for a quick pick me up for breakkie, stretch or toilet break. Next was a photo opportunity at the Welcome to Kakadu sign and the main stop was at the Nourlangie art site walk which was amazing. The Yellow water boat cruise by our guide Allie was interesting and spotted a number of crocs, native birds, water lilies and beautiful wetlands. Enjoyed the Warradjan cultural centre as very informative. Lunch was at the Cooinda lodge and the cold buffet was tasty! Kakadu is huge and a long drive/day but well worth the visit.

This was a great day trip with AAT King visiting the Kakadu National Park, The Aboriginal rock art paintings and the Yellow River. A very educational tour and beautiful sights and surroundings to take in. We also did the scenic flight over the park taking in the two waterfalls that can only be seen by air.
Deb was our tour guide and she looked after us all extremely well during the day. Lots of fun had by all. Don’t be put off by the travel times, there are plenty of stretch leg times and bathroom breaks.
Thank you for driving safely and a fantastic day.
