- curly02580 contributionsGood views, poor guideThe experience of seeing the magnificent rick was excellent, slightly dampened by a cloudy morning, but still very worthwhile. When we got to Kata Tjuṯa, the sun showed up for a while and this was impressive. So why 3 stars you may ask ? The tour guide I think her name was Nerja or similar?? (She was about 60 with blond hair ) was very rude, sarcastic and little interest in her guests, she was regularly throwing her eyes up to heaven, but managed to be civil when using the coach PA system. Whilst at Kata Tjuṯa , she gave a worthwhile safety briefing . Then proceeded to march off at a fast pace leaving all her guests behind , we kept up with her as were keen walkers, but others where 200-300 metres behind her on rough terrain; not once did she look back to check on their welfare . When at the viewing platform, she stared into space with her back to all her guests . Maybe having a bad day, but it wasn’t a good representative for the company. On the other hand the driver Riley was very amicable, taking time to talk to guests and answer questionsWritten November 17, 2024
- Mai L0 contributionsWorth doing. The sun did not set over the Kata Tjuta outcrop as shown in the booking photo. Access to the actual rock faces was not possible because there was a fenced in area. It was still a pleasant trip with decent hors d’oeuvres and wine. The site is used by several tour groups.Written November 12, 2024
- 848kimg0 contributionsLong Day if You Don’t Do the Long WalkThis tour was well organized and the logistics were handled well. Our guides were Lincoln and Chloe and they were wonderful. Very knowledgeable and engaging. It was a super long day with a pick up for us at 4:15am and a return back around 5:00pm. In our opinion this trip would only be worth it if you are capable of doing the 3 hour rim walk. We were warned that the walk starts with a very steep climb of more than 500 steps and then continues with a lot of up and down. The heat is intense in the high 30’s. While the surrounding area is beautiful, we are not sure it warrants six hours of driving if you don’t see the upper canyon area. We started on the rim walk but after doing the first 200 steps felt it would be too challenging to continue. Chloe was very understanding as we went back down to join the creek walk. Lincoln provided a very informative walk on the ground of the canyon but it was obviously not as exciting. The tour advertised the opportunity to enjoy the amenities of a resort but the property was more like a lodge and there were some obnoxious students in the pool. We swam for a bit anyway and then had a nice lunch while waiting for the return back. We didn’t find the stops on the return to be very interesting and felt they were unnecessary at that point. Lincoln was an excellent driver and made us feel safe the entire time on a difficult and long journey. In our opinion if you don’t have the ability to do an extremely difficult hike (graded as a 5) and the definite highlight, then perhaps give it a pass.Written November 11, 2024
- travelingammonite0 contributionsAbsolute nonsense tourI didn't understand the organization of this itinerary at all. I travel for work and have been on hundreds of tours, and this is in my bottom three. HOW IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE: Pick up guests. Drive to an Uluru viewing platform. Provide hot drink. Guests walk to viewing platform to see Uluru at sunrise. HOW IT WAS: Guests were picked up. We drove to an Uluru viewing platform, where a station for hot drinks (in satchel form) was set up. There was no line, it was an absolute free for all with lots of shoving. Time was wasted just getting the three things you needed: cup, powder/teabag, hot water, none of which had lines. After wasting a bunch of time playing an impromptu round of the Hunger Games, you then walked to the viewing platform, cup in hand, because there were no trash cans. You're also joining 5 other buses full of people, mind you, so the viewing platform is another free for all as you're wrestling for the best spot (with one hand, because remember you're still holding on to your cup). Taking photos was a nightmare. They told us to be back at the bus at 6:05, which is baffling! Sunrise was at 5:54, but the walk back takes 10-15 minutes. Essentially, we were told to be at the bus as the sun was rising, which defeats the purpose of watching the sun rise over Uluru. Even more baffling because we spent 15 minutes sitting in the bus afterwards? Doing nothing?? Like we could have spent more time at the viewing platform? Absolute nonsense. I suspect the tour guide has dealt with late guests before so she told everyone to be back 15 minutes early. Too bad it meant missing the actual sunrise, but she simply didn't care, lol. She just wanted to go home. There was no info provided about Uluru at all. When we pulled up to the viewing platform, all we got was "oh look, there are desert trees..." which yeah, we're in a desert. Tell us more about Uluru! The drive to Kata Tjutu was full of tree facts lol, she just pointed out different kinds of trees and read from a script. I couldn't tell if it was the tour guide's first day or 20th year in the business. Either she didn't know what she was doing or she has simply done it so often, she didn't care anymore. Kata Tjutu itself was nice, we went up and down and that was it, lol. If you're decently fit - like if you could get through a gym class in high school - you'll be fine. There's a bit of an incline but the challenge is the uneven ground caused by a conglomerate of rocks. It's a 20-minute walk up, so very doable. Even this part of the tour you could just see on your own if you rent a car. This tour felt like spending money on things I could do on my own, but like... paying to make it unenjoyable. Skip it if you can.Written November 6, 2024
- T1366YCcathya0 contributionsNot to be missed!Watching the sun rise over Uluru is a very special & magical experience enhanced by the extraordinary Field of Light installation by British creator Bruce Munro. Excellent guide (Chloe?) and a smaller group. Preferable experience to the Sunset tour - if you only do one then this is it.Written November 2, 2024
- T1366YCcathya0 contributionsSunrise experience was betterIconic view of Uluru at sunset - however, too many people, an irritating driver/tour guide (limited knowledge, thought he was a comedy act). Fizz & nibbles were OK, BBQ cancelled. Better option is the Sunrise & Field of Light.Written November 2, 2024
- FarAway308750061510 contributionsLoved it.What an amazing experience this was. We were driven to an area plied with drinks and snacks to watch the breathtaking sunset from a great viewpoint. It was not overly crowded so you could get decent uninterrupted views and take some great photos. We were then driven to an area so close to the rock for a bbq cooked to your liking with plenty of choice after which we were treated to a star gazing talk. Absolutely worth every penny. The staff were so amazing and made sure you had everything you needed. One of the highlights of our Australian trip.Written October 31, 2024
- hiking_reads0 contributionsMUST DOMUST DO! Very early morning (pick up at about 5am, dependent on time of year). Back to the resort before suppertime. Great hike, Starts with a 520 step climb tp get to the rim...that's the hardest part. Easier after that, but still many more ups and downs, just shorter ones. Good exercise. Bring LOTS of water, particularly in the hot months. Park regulations stipulate 3L per person. On the resort, buy bottled water at the Shell gas station....much cheaper that at the hotels. Or at the IGA grocery store, but not sure about their prices.Written October 27, 2024
- JohnMcB17170 contributionsMorning MagnificenceThe views were amazing and we took lots of photos. Michelle and Riley (guide and driver) were excellent hosts and really informative. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Uluru.Written October 24, 2024
- waynewZ1315JG0 contributionsDo yourself a favour, take the challenge of KC walk with supportive informative staff!Being not a great morning person the 4.15am start didn’t really appeal, however do yourself a favour, make the effort!!! On arrival our tour crew, Chloe, Haley and Jess were outstanding, they catered to all of us, easily placing overseas tourists, locals, us older people and the younger people at ease. They were engaging and provided interesting commentary and facts all day. Breakfast at Kings Creek Station was a bacon and eggs affair for me but there were also healthier options. Then it was on to the Rim Walk at King Canyon. The first 200 steps had people struggling, but being allowed to ascend at a leisurely pace and being encouraged by the guides ensured we all made it to the top and the start of the walk around the rim. The staff were awesome pointing out areas of interest and providing informative commentary. The views and photo opportunities were outstanding. Though I am not an ‘influencer’ I could picture influencers creating outstanding content all around this walk! The spectacular views and scenery cannot be captured via camera….you really just need to do this walk! Although only 6.65km (via the gps watch) it is quite difficult for those that may have limited fitness. The mid morning/midday sun also takes a toll on the south side of the walk, make sure you suck down the water. The walk down is also quite challenging, but the reward of completing this walk is well worth it. Lunch at the Kings Canyon resort was welcomed and the journey back to Yulara was relaxing. A stop at Atila for photos and also at Curtain Springs roadhouse were also a step back in time. We loved this tour, and the staff running it were outstanding!Written October 19, 2024
- thomasfP6446IE0 contributionsMesmerising sight. We arrived after a short, comfortable ride. Michael, the driver, supplied a detailed narration on the way to Kata Tjuta. Unfortunately, there was music being played at the same time, making it difficult to listen to his commentary. We arrived well before sunset and were served snacks and refreshments, including sparkling and red wine, beer, and soft drinks. On our visit to Uluru the previous day, we were not inconvinced by the flies. However, at Kata Tjuta, it was a different senerio. I would definitely recommend using a flynet. The timing of our visit coincided with a full moon rising on our return to Uluru.Written October 18, 2024
- eyebeetrippin0 contributionsPerfect day trip - worth every minute and every dollarWhat a way to fill a day! I joined Glen and Cole for a tour of Kings Canyon. I did the creek walk after trying the steps for the 6km walk and finding my body was not up to the task. Glen dealt with that decision with compassion and competence. I enjoyed the walk along the creek bed with Cole learning much about the flora, fauna and geology. It was a 38degree day and it was not for the faint hearted. You can not carry too much water on these days. You need it all. The bus carried fill ups which was much appreciated. We stopped for a great cooked breakfast prior. Seeing camels and meeting Bruce the donkey. We learned of the value of the area and its resources via Glens commentary on the drive. Afterwards we had lunch at Kings Canyon Resort. Some people swam. Some took the helicopter over the canyon. It was a full day but with naps on the drive and a pit stop at Mt Conners cattle station for ice cream on the way home, it was a comfortable 13hrs. Highly recommend.Written October 16, 2024
- charliet2000 contributionsField of Lights with Dinner: Average tour, but VERY expensiveWhile the Field of Light installation is worth a visit combining it with dinner was not worth the experience. Generous with drinks when we arrived at the Uluru vantage point to watch the sunset was nice. Very expensive tour ($600 for 2 people) and the food was the worst we had in the entire trip- a very average buffet. We almost missed getting the description of the stars as the person giving the talk had already been to several other tours that night- we had been instructed to leave the venue to walk through the field of lights when he arrived and he rushed quickly through the presentation. Would not recommend. Much cheaper and more enjoyable would have been to walk through the installation on our own and then go for a dinner somewhere.Written October 16, 2024

This is a long drive. The scenery is great, but after hours of similar geography, even that was getting a little boring.
We made a couple of short stops which allowed us to stretch our legs, buy food and beverages, so that helped a lot.

I must admit when we booked the coach trip from Alice Springs to Uluru it was a means to an end. In fact sitting on a coach for a few hours was certainly not high on my bucket list.
However I was more than pleasantly surprised about how enjoyable it was. This was almost entirely down to our driver / guide Pete. His commentary from Alice Springs through pretty much the whole journey was fascinating. A mix of geography, geology, history, legends, myths, social history, modern history and a few other little gems kept the journey flying by.
We had three stops. Two truck stops (let’s call them ‘authentic’ for us UK visitors more used to a Costa or Starbucks) and a scenic stop broke up the journey perfectly.
The coach is comfortable enough both seating and environmental. The views are endless and give you an idea how vast and baron this area of Australia is.

Dreadfully long & monotonous journey…..in addition to normal suspension up and down movement, bus seemed to tilt/swing side to side which was disconcerting ! Not sure if this was an issue on this particular bus but made for an uncomfortable 6 hours.

All we wanted was a shuttle from Yulara to our accommodation in Alice Springs. We were put on a bus which ended up going to Kings Canyon so everyone else was pumped for a multi-day trip with accompanying commentary. We then had to change buses in the middle of nowhere onto a bus coming from Kings Canyon with accompanying commentary. On both buses we felt a bit like our inclusion was a bit of an inconvenience to the other tours. When we got to Alice Springs the driver didn't know where our accommodation was and we had to direct him to it.

AAT Kings are extremely pride of our friendly & knowledgeable driver guides, so even though you did not enjoy this part of your experience this is something that we offer during this transfer. I am sorry that this was not explained to you at time of booking. I will follow up on your hotel, & the driver being unaware of where this is for our future guests.
