This seems to be a must to in Sydney and I must say it was a nice aquarium however I have seen other better Aquariums which were far less expesnive. Combined the tickets were $65 for an adult to see both the sea life and the Wild life. That's a lot. The wildlife was much much better and offered a lot more than this did. I think the finding Nemo movie is what got me interested in coming here but to be honest I thought it was average, over-crowded and expensive. The queues to get inside at around 10am were ridiculous and there was so many people inside you could barely get time to look at any of the tanks/displays. All that said i suppose if you have small children it probably is worthwhile going if you are happy to pay the price and deal with the crowds.

Hi KelmKzn
Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you found us expensive. As we are home to thousands of animals, we have a very high running cost and try our best to limit how much of this we pass onto our guests.
As a family attraction, our numbers increase over the weekends meaning it can get a little busy inside. We recommend visiting in the afternoon around 3 or 4 pm. This will make it easier to see the exhibits with less crowding.

I have always loved a trip to the SeaLife Aquarium and was excited to show my son around on our trip to Sydney this month.
I have always found Sealife Aquarium to be an experience of enlightment and appreciation of marine life. Sealife promote that they want to 'inspire our guests to support the work that we do to benefit the marine environment. They also spread the message about conservation and welfare work, including world-firsts like the SEA LIFE TRUST Beluga Whale Sanctuary in Iceland.'
They have lost sight of this!
We queued to get in and remained queued for the entire experience.
The shark experience was extremely tight and people managed different sides of the tunnel to ensure some movement. We could not see the enclosures for the crowds. The only reprieve was at the dugong on the top floor where the crowd seemed to spread out but as soon as we moved below it was bumped to bumper again. Needless to say it seemed more about getting their entrance fees and people through the gates than the sea life experience. We were extremely disappointed and certainly not worth the $50 to get in.

We visited as they had offers on midweek. Initially the experience was disappointing. Extremely unclear where you queued for tickets versus us who already prebooked. Indeed it was opposite of the signage so we queued a long time in the wrong place for the line assistant to basically tell us that of course it was the opposite of the signage as they are remodeling. Check-in evidently we had the wrong QR code or not enough codes as we had booked an extra add-on, again totally not clear from the email they sent us on booking.
Then we needed to walk considerably into the aquarium tour to get to the behind the scenes meeting point. No map. No guidance from staff. No indication it would take you a good twenty from the entrance. The penguin ride was equally very poor signage. You needed to be fit and agile to get into the ride so a person behind us couldn't manage at all. Indeed the sign said it was closed. The behind scenes staff were great. The seahorse breeding program is laudable. The reef exhibits are great, same for jellies. So if they just improved their logistics, their explanations, it would be so much better.

one of the better aquariums I’ve been too. Wanted to do the shark five but my son didn’t want to. Considering it’s at the darling harbour, I recommend checking it out along with wildlife zoo and madam toussauds. There’s a special on all three of you buy the ticket on the hop on hop off bus so it was worth the cost for all three and the 24 hour bus ride. Oh and the teenager likes the penguin ride.

Overcrowded, overpriced, no crowd control, hot and stuffy. But customer service aside, it just feels so outdated! If you want to inspire your children about the natural world, get them out on a boat, and then get on youtube to see what life is really like under the water. Dont take them to some dhingy underground warren with tiny fish tanks or huge crowds of people all gawping and teasing the poor things that have been stuck in those horrendous cramped fish tanks for who knows how many years. I have never read any literature on aquarium welfare, but this felt so wrong on so many levels....Just the worst type of zoo that was all about making money with a bit of side spin about conservation. They clearly do some good work but there are so many ways that this can be communicated. After this, I will never support another sealife aquarium. We left feeling sad and compelled to write this review so perhaps some others will think twice about the ethics of such a place and whether they want to support it.

Hello Morag156,
It is really disappointing to see that you did not enjoy your experience with us here at SEA LIFE Sydney and we sincerely apologise.
We take all enquiries regarding the health and safety of our animals very seriously. Animal welfare is paramount across all our exhibits at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, and we pride ourselves on providing our aquatic animals with the highest possible standard of care. nSEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium is a ZAA-accredited aquarium. The Zoo and Aquarium Association (ZAA) represents the collective voice of the zoos, aquariums, sanctuaries and wildlife parks across Australasia that operate to the highest standards. ZAA have a progressive, science-based approach to animal welfare. By law, the government requires zoos and aquariums to meet minimum standards to protect animals from bad welfare. The ZAA Accreditation Program goes further, using the Five Domains (nutrition, environment, health, behavior and mental) to focus on good welfare. It asks the question, is the animal having a fulfilling life of positive experiences?
We would really like to discuss further what went wrong during your visit and how we could improve.
Please email us your feedback at slsa.dm@merlinentertainments.com.au
Thank you for your review and we hope to hear from you soon.

A great experience for all age groups with plenty to see and do. I went with my 3 yr old daughter and in our eyes, the highlights were:-
* 3 underwater tunnels, one for the Dugongs, one for the Stingrays and one for the sharks (who knew there were so many types of sharks!)
* Watching the feeding of the eagle rays which came with a talk as the presenter introduced us to Naboo, Annie, Luca and Leia.
* The rockpool section where you can touch and feel starfish and other small sea creatures. We even got to hold a 'bamboo shark's egg' in our hand (not to worry, the shark had already hatched)!
* The jellyfish area
* The penguins (though the Penguin Boat Ride was closed due to hygiene reasons at the time of our visit).
We spent 2 hours there but you can easily spend longer if you participate in the interactive activities/talks throughout the aquarium.
The staff also come across as passionate and knowledgeable as they answered all my questions and more.
Tip: As it's easy to spend at least 2 hours there, take a bottle of water and snacks (especially with young kids) as there is no food till the exit (though there are water refill stations inside). I also went on a weekday where it was nice and quiet so a good way to avoid the crowds!

Poor booking management, over crowded to a point that you are unable to see anything. We booked a time slot and the number of people allowed in every 15 minutes was ridiculous. We were all crammed in like sardines. Not what I expect for the price. We looked for the nearest exit. The volume of people, with no airflow, waiting for each section was a safety hazard. This is my first review and we logged on just to leave this review.

Hi There!
Firstly, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. As a family attraction, our numbers increase during the weekends and it can often get a little busy inside. We encourage guests to visit us during the week and/or before 11 am or after 2 pm for a quieter and more relaxing visit to the
aquarium.
Best Wishes!

Buying tickets online still involved a huge queue and all caused by a silly photographer taking photos of every visitor, before you got into the aquarium! Utterly ridiculous and poor people management. The time slots given when you buy online are meaningless, it’s just a bun fight. Inside there were very few exhibits for anyone older than 10 years old. Lots of dark tanks, many hard to read or missing descriptions of what was in the tiny tank. Very little emphasis on conservation etc for adults. You go through the whole aquarium in a one way queue, so when it is busy it is awful. The large glass tubes you walk through with fish in tanks overhead were good but heaving with people, surely there has to be a better and more pleasant system? Definitely not worth the money or time. Much better aquariums elsewhere in the world, for the fish and visitors!

Penguin encounter at sea life darling harbour
$200 per person for what?? It's a highway robbery. They dress you up take you to the kitchen, explain to you what they feed them (they just defrost fish). Then you go sit on some stools for 10mins with the penguins. Some guy there tells you some stories about them. The end. That's it! You can't touch them or feed them. Plus if you want to take photos, you have to hire a special pouch for your phone, extra $20. Shame on them. Just a cash grab for tourists.
I Recommend, just pay normal entry fee under $50 and see everything behind the glass.

Purchased tickets for a 10:15 entry. Got told to join the back of the queue, which is fine. At 10:25 we're still in the queue, so I went up to the front and got told that we could enter only to be hurried along two minutes later.
Entry control is dismal and inadequately staffed. Wouldn't waste $200.
That said, my youngest child enjoyed seeing the fish, so it wasn't all bad, but not worth the money to get stuck in the crowds.
