- Katherine F0 contributionsGreat showFabulous magic performed by a charming and talented showman. Only giving 4 out of 5 as the show felt a little long. I still highly recommend the show, good fun for all and you’ll be stumped as to how he did it!Written February 27, 2024
- 634geoff0 contributionsElegant setting, spending a night heightening the imaginationFirst time ever at a magic/ illusion show. The story telling was well rehearsed. The tricks were amazing and a few very spectacular - especially the number in the box. The hostess Libby was engaging and friendly . I give the show a rating of 5 but the canapes only a rating of 3. For the price there should be more canapes, so I recommend an improvement there.Written February 5, 2024
- Jesus_Is_Lord-John310 contributionsMarvellous Magical MerrimentA fine evening of illusions, with a bit of history and yummy snacks. Mr. Glen well looks after his guests. One example is the 19:03 start time, whilst the actual performance begins a bit after that. This allows all to arrive and nor disturb the performance with late arrivals; bonus is yummy snacks and champagne. His hostess comes around and asks some questions. There is audience participation as well. A fun fine evening, frankly.Written January 15, 2024
- wendykain0 contributionsTwo magician followers from way back wholeheartedly recommend this show. Go quickly. My partner and I have seen many magicians and magic shows, nonetheless we were seriously impressed by this show. I kept turning to see my partner's mouth dropping open with amazement. It was completely professional from start to finish, and the following day we continued to be overwhelmed by the brilliance of it all. Very highly recommended. And it's in a gorgeous old hotel.Written November 3, 2023
- 872camilla0 contributionsFun and Unique EveningBought tickets for my mum for Mother’s Day gift. Really enjoyed the evening, full of good old fashioned storytelling, jokes and of course, magic tricks. The hotel setting was also beautiful but there definitely could have been more food. Fantastic evening overall and would do it again.Written May 14, 2023
- Passport363922905710 contributionsMy advice Skip itVery dissatisfying experience.Found the magic show amateurish, he actually made a mistake with one trick and spoke too long in between tricks .very small audience , didn't feel like a show or entertainment. very boring at times Way over priced as well My advice Skip itWritten April 30, 2023

- peterm05080 contributionsFun, Magic and Stories, a wonderful night! My wife and I had an absolutely great time being mesmerised and baffled by The Gentleman Magician (Bruce) and his stories and magic. This was our second time seeing the show and whilst I felt many of the illusions were similar or the same as the first time, there were enough new illusions for it to be worth the revisit. It had been about 5 years since we last saw the show so although I could remember some of what was happening I certainly had no idea how it was done or what was going to happen next. In fact most of the detail had “disappeared” from my memory (see what I did there?). The evening started with sparkling wine and 3 or 4 different canapes and then we were seated for the show. The show went for about 90 minutes but I think it depends on the crowd as to whether the show goes a bit longer or shorter. We found Bruce to be a wonderful teller of tales as he took us on a journey through early Sydney life and ‘magic’. I had a great time and even though I was determined to look closely and not get distracted I still was baffled and bamboozled by the magic that was before me. To be honest it took me back to my childhood where things were new and amazing and I had no idea how or why things worked the way they did. My wife enjoyed the show just as much if not more that I did and we both felt it was definitely worth the cost to be taken away into the realm of magic and fun for an all too short period of time. We may even see The Gentleman Magician again one day. With regards to the venue, The Sir Stamford at Circular Quay, well this is one of Sydneys hidden secrets as far as top hotels go. It has old world charm that takes you way back and the staff are fantastic. We especially love the Bar where we had pre and post show drinks.Written January 24, 2023
- MissRobbie0 contributionsGreat night outThe Soirée was thoroughly enjoyable held in a very atmospheric room. The magician kept his audience entertained with storytelling and very slick illusions. Highly recommendWritten January 15, 2023
- Maurie D0 contributionsNot the sophisticated affair we expectedA chance sighting of a sign in the street led us to book for this event. We were promised champagne and hors d'oeuvre prior to the show. What we got was commercial bought items and glass of sparking wine... not what I would have expected have expected from a top class hotel. The show itself was mundane and at times boring and frankly we were glad when it ended.Written November 28, 2022

'The Gentleman Magician', variously described in the advertising literature as a 'captivating, entrancing magical soiree' was a huge disappointment. Upon our arrival at the hotel my group of 20 retirement village residents were required to navigate the labyrinth of below stairs laundry/food preparation areas since the hotel lift was inoperative and the only alternative to the stairs was to walk around the side of the hotel in icy outdoor temperatures. We were then directed to a somewhat tired and gloomy room where the light fittings were barely attached to the walls-no evidence of the splendid chandeliers featured in the advertisements. We sat in rows to receive two savoury and one sweet canapes and a glass of 'champagne'. No atmosphere whatsoever. The show itself was as tired as the decor.
The gentleman magician was elegant and courteous but his magic fell well short of baffling wonderment indeed, some of his tricks went awry. As we retraced our way through the laundry labyrinth many of us questioned the $95 price tag for tickets for the show. Personally, I would have preferred to remain in the comfort of my own home enjoying a Netflix night!

The show we saw in May 2021 was presented in the Old Ritz Carleton, now named "The Sir Stamford" in a downstairs room. Some other guests had problems with the stairs. This was not the splendid room in the publicity photographs.
Somehow the whole thing was disappointing and didn't live up to its publicity. The promised canapes (3) and the glass of bubbly was served to us sitting in our seats before the show began.
Bruce has a good chatter and the magic, though dated, was almost OK, but for a member of of any Magic Circle to fluff two "forces" in a 2 hour performance is unforgivable. This happened during his presentation to us.
His involvement with two of the members of the audience was well handled.
It bore the hallmarks of a Show which has been going for a very long time and now needs a rethink and revival about what it is actually presenting.
It is poor value for the admission price in its present form.
It should stop advertising that it is number 2 on the Trip advisor "Shows and concerts" as it is actually 11 or 28 depending on where you look on the trip advisor website.
We were underwhelmed and disappointed by our evenings entertainment.

This show was enchanting and the magic was amazing! The Magician’s tales created a wonderful atmosphere for the magic tricks. The room at the Sir Stamford is lovely and feels like a salon. Bubbles and great canapés are part of the package. The whole experience was well worth the price of entry and there is an option of after show drinks in the Highlander Whiskey bar where the Magician offers table magic tricks! This is a must do if you love great magic!

A wonderful evening of magic delivered by this aptly self titled Gentleman Magician.
Bruce entertains with wit, story telling, and the wonders of magic. His show took us ‘away from the everyday’.
If you’re looking for a night out at a show that avoids the queues and the hustle and bustle of seating, with the entertainer on a stage in the distance, give this one a go.

We booked for the experience of a magic show with Bubbly and canapés beforehand. The event was held in a pokey room down a flight of stairs. Seating was in rows of chairs. Ambience was non existent. Canapés consisted of one prawn dumpling served on a spoon with soy sauce; one pizza , slightly larger than a 50 cent coin and one small tart. The Gentleman (which indeed he is) magician certainly had the patter but the show was underwhelming. The rope trick (using cords) is clever but dated. A couple of tricks were fairly obvious but another couple or so were indeed baffling. I have seen better magicians and tricks at a party for young children. Wish we had gone out for a meal instead. It would have been cheaper than this overpriced show.

Bruce was a definitely a gentleman and a very kind man. The magic however was extremely old and not at all outstanding or baffling. He talked far far too much and did too little. No trick left you amazed or bewildered. For $95, I would want to be far more entertained and gobsmacked. He started with the equal length rope trick which has been around since Botany Bay was discovered ...one trick didn't work and another was faulty though he was quick enough to glaze over the mistake. I really think your money would be spent far better on a boat cruise or some other activity. I do not say this unkindly, but as one who cannot afford to throw or spend $190 on a night that is so ordinary. I honestly believe $20 for this hour would have been a fair price.

This is the first time I have received such a negative review and I am so sorry you did not enjoy your experience. As with all performing arts reactions can vary considerably - after all, we are all different with different expectations. Though your review differs greatly from almost all the others I have received I absolutely respect your right to your opinion. I wish you well.

This evening was a wonderful gift to my husband. We decided not to read up about it prior to going so we could enjoy the evening without expectations.
We we had a wonderful evening full of ‘how?’ and ‘what just happened’ and more how, how and how.
We were greeted with a glass of ‘bubbles’ and lovely canapés while mingling with other guest.
Then we were entertained in an intimate setting. We could see and hear everything very well. It was a truely enjoyable and magically evening.

The whole family (In-laws, husband, teens) loved the show and were talking about it for days. Bruce’s magic, stories and jokes were engaging and Laura was a delight. The food was delicious and the venue was a beautiful bonus.

This was a wonderful surprise for me. I did not have high expectations but this show was really good!!
When you arive you are served champagne and hors d'oeuvres. Then you enter the room with approximately 40 others. So it is an intimate gathering. My 24 yr old neice was with me and she really loved it as well.
I highly recommend spending an evening with The Gentleman Magician!

Do we go directly to the Sir Stamford Hotel for this show? The information on Trip Advisor shows a starting point at the Royal Botanic Gardens, which has me confused.

Hi, Yes you do go directly to the Sir Stamford reception area.
