Fantastic Tour to Benagil

We booked the tour to go and visit Benagil Cave, and the tour far exceeded our expectations.

The boat ride there was so exhilarating - it was very fast and we had to hold on tight as the waves were quite choppy. It was fantastic! Our guide stopped the boat at various points to tell us interesting facts and stories about the different beaches and towns.

The cave itself was wonderful - we were the only people inside, which felt pretty special (it was late afternoon by this point).

We went further out to sea for the journey back, in the hope of spotting dolphins. Unfortunately we didn't see any, but we couldn't be too disappointed because the ride out so far from land was exciting in itself, and obviously they can't control wild animals!

We felt that the tour was excellent value for money, as we were at sea for 2hr 30minutes.

An expensive friendly boat ride.
Nothing special about this excursion. The guides and folks at check-in were all friendly and helpful. However the boat trip is a quick in an an out, not much said about the caves or the history, they spend a minute or so getting close enough to take photos, then they turn around a quickly return to the marina. No mention was made of the Dolphins nor did we look for any. Just over and back and thank you. It wasn't a terrible experience, it just wasn't special at all. In my opinion it was expensive for what it was and not a good value. If you decide to take this trip, do everything to sit in the front or all your photos will have everyone's hands with cameras/phones in your pictures.

Hello, Thank you for you review. During our tour we always stop by ALL of the main beaches, caves and rock formations to explain an history or interesting facts. About the dolphins, we have two different tours a Benagil cave tour, which is to visit the caves and coastline, then we have a dolphin safari which goes to search for the dolphins. Gets better every time !
And we’re back again!
We have done this tour about 4 times and it get better every time.
The company now has a larger speed boat which takes more people. We have done the tour on both rib boat and this new boat and the are both amazing !
Thanks again to Pedro and Henrique (didn’t catch the name of the other crew) for marking the trip special.

Very misleading

My partner and I booked our tickets the day before after talking to one of the staff for a while asking questions about which boat we were on, could we swim etc. We were specifically told that we would be on a 12 man boat (we told them explicitly that we did not want to be on a large boat with lots of people which is why we booked this tour) and that there would be time to go swimming.

On arrival, we were told there was an issue with fuel from the morning and there was a 2 hour delay. We came back after 2 hours and were met with a lot of people who seemed to be waiting just like us. Suddenly we all got called and before we knew it, we were being piled onto a 50 man boat.

The trip itself was ok however, due to the size of the boat we only stayed in the cave for about 1-2 minutes. On the way back they dropped anchor and shouted ‘if you want to swim, you have exactly 5 minutes to get in and out’. We were shouted at nonstop during that 5 minutes to hurry up.

When we got back, we went to speak to the manager to explain how we were completely mislead. At first she was adamant that they never used the small 12 man boat for this trip (I had to physically show her the photo they advertise which has the 12 man small boat). She told us that we were wrong to think we would spend longer in the caves and they absolutely do not swim on these trips - all of which we were told would happen the day before.

She agreed to send over an email to discuss further and offer some compensation - 3 weeks later and still nothing…

If you want to go and see the caves don’t go on this trip as this was more about the boat ride there and back rather than enjoying the caves.

False advertisement

Absolutely appalling! Do not book! They advertised the bengal cave tour. We paid 50 euros in a taxi to get there and back and after paying the taxi fare plus 80 euros to do the bengal cave tour all we ended up with was a speed boat ride. As the weather conditions were so bad we couldn't get in the caves, however I believe the company knew there was no chance of been able to get in the cave but advertised it anyway. False advertisement as its best. I then contacted them to ask for a refund as what we experienced was not what they said they was offering. They are refusing to refund me and have are even lying saying that we went in the cave. We certainly did not or we would not be complaining. It even states in their terms and conditions that if the tour is incomplete due to weather conditions an Alternative date will be provided or a full refund. Which they are now refusing to do and lying that we went into the cave despite proof of me showing how far away we was from the cave and never entered the cave. Leaving me to have to dispute payment with my bank under false advertisement. Avoid at all costs. Scam! False advertisement! Also a company that will lie to try get out of their own terms and conditions. Joke of a company. Avoid and go with someone trust worthy as these are clearly not!!!!!

Great experience - I would recommend it

We had a fantastic trip out with Millie (the guide) and the captain. They took us straight out to sea where the captain found a pod of dolphins. We spent about 20 minutes admiring the dolphins while they played in the waves and repeatedly swam underneath the boat. I was worried about taking my phone but it stayed dry and I managed not to lose it overboard. If I was to go again, I would take video rather than photos as the dolphins were very fast!
It was then back inland to the Benagil cave - although the next cave along was even better (just as impressive but fewer people). Then back along the shore, viewing caves, arches and other rock formations, while Millie explained their history + the history surrounding other cliff-top buildings (churches, memorials and hotels).
Despite going so fast in the boat, it felt very safe due to the shape of the seats and the ability to rest your feet on the seat in front. I was expecting to get soaking wet but the sea was calm and we came back dry!
This trip also accommodated a passenger who arrived in a wheelchair. They transferred onto the boat and the wheelchair was left safely on land until we returned.

Such fun and a great trip!
First, Sean, our guide for our trip was wonderful. He was an excellent guide and made the trip very interesting. He provided details of the beaches and towns we passed by and of special sights. The boat held 12 people and was surprisingly comfortable. We toured many caves, rock formations, and interesting sites. On our way back to Vilamoura the boat had a mechanical problem but Sean and the Captain took care of getting us all back quickly and safely. It was a great adventure. Highly suggest it.

BEWARE
BEWARE of this company. They will book you under the name Champagne Cruises and not explain that they are the same company. They told us to meet at the Champagne Cruises desk, no one was there. Long story short, we missed our trip (last one of the day and we were leaving the next day) because they never explained that we had to meet at Vilamoura Water Sports desk. The female manager working at Vilamoura Water Sports was SO RUDE and acted like it was my fault for their lack of detail and communication. On top of it, they refused us a refund so we had to block on our credit card. DO NOT book with this company!

Hello, We called the contact number given to us multiple times, messaged and email you as well about the change of time at nine in the morning, the trip was booked for 3pm and our system gave you the wrong time of 3:30pm. As described above we tried to contact you multiple times. Once you arrived the for the benagil caves had already departed but we did have our dolphin and cave tour which we offered for you or an alternative day .

A must do!
Great trip to the Benagil Cave along 50km of amazing coastline. Very stable speed boat, great skippers and hosts. They stopped several times along the way to point out highlights before arriving at Benagil Cave. Definitely a must do while in the area.
P.S. If you like bring a cushion for the seat. 😉
