What a great fun way to see round Gozo and then relax in the beautiful Crystal Bay and Blue Lagoon. What a onus to have also seen dolphins swim alongside the boat.

The jeep safari is a fun experience to see round the island but don’t expect to get time to explore in your own time. There’s a lot to see in the time so stops are quite limited - for us this was okay as let us see a lot with the tour guide.

Lunch was included for us and was very nice, was served to table and wine and water was included too.

Then to the boat trip in the afternoon where we stopped in Crystal Bay for the option of swimming, then onto Blue Lagoon. While on the boat in the afternoon wine and water were provided throughout for anyone who wanted it.

There were about 50 people on our trip and we still felt there was plenty of room to be moving about and sit and relax without feeling packed in.

There was an option in the afternoon to take a small boat into the caves, this was an extra cost for those who wanted to go.

All in all, my husband and I loved it, thank you to all who delivered such a great day out!

A trip to Malta is not complete without visiting the island of Gozo. We were immediately attracted to the Combi Tour offered by Barbarossa Excursions, which included a trip to Gozo and Comino.

We were picked up at around 8.40am from our hotel and driven to the port, around 30 minutes away. After climbing on board the boat for our tour around Comino there was plenty of space at the front and back for sun worshippers and a little space inside for shade. The captain and his cadet (his grandson) spoke to us about the history of Comino. Our cadet spoke brilliant English and helped us on and off the boat providing entertainment throughout the journey. No doubt he will do very well in the company when he is older!!

Whilst we were travelling we were shown some amazing caves – sadly we could not actually go in or through them but they were pretty awesome to look at. Ideally, it would be nice if the boat stayed here a little longer so people are less rushed with taking photos.

The Blue Lagoon was pretty stunning as long as you are on the quieter side (which we were) otherwise it can seem a little touristy. I did not know that lagoon means deep and blue is from the legend that says if you drink water you turn blue! You could jump off the boat at the sides (our cadet certainly did!). I was given a ring to float around in as I am not a strong swimmer. Lastly, we headed to Santa Marina Bay for more swimming before heading to Gozo.

Gozo is a small fishing village, only 9 miles by 3 miles, with a population of around 32,000 people. We stopped off for lunch immediately at around 12.15 at Maribu. We were pleasantly surprised when we realised there were tables and sun umbrellas to eat outside, as well as a pool if you fancied a quick dip before heading off on the jeep safari around Gozo!

There was a cold buffet lunch available with unlimited water, white wine or red wine. Any other drinks were extra but I paid a reasonable €1.50 for a diet coke. The lunch included fresh bread, cuts of meat, pasta with olives, rice, tuna and salad. It was nice not to have anything too heavy in the heat!

After around an hour we departed for our trip around Gozo with our guide. Peter was informative and friendly giving us a good insight into the history of Gozo. There were a maximum of six people on the jeeps – five in the back and one in the front. Depending on the size of the tour, there can be 4 or 5 jeeps at one time travelling around the island.

We headed to the North West of the island via the capital Victoria and started exploring. We headed to the previous location of the Azure Window which was a 28 metre tall natural arch in Dwerja Bay. It was one of Gozo’s major tourist attractions but was destroyed by a storm in March 2017.

We also travelled to the new window that is forming where you can see Sicily on a clear day 60km away. Whilst not as impressive as the Azure Window (at least from the photos I have seen) it was still forming and is more hidden.

Peter also took us to the natural salt pans built by Romans, which were used to preserve food. The salt (or sala) was used to pay soldiers, which is where the word salary comes from! I found that rather fascinating!

Lastly we were taken to Ghajnsielem Church which was built in 1932 with over 1800 handcrafted designs. A really impressive structure with some gorgeous mosaics outside.

The trip was good value for €70 each given it included a full day tour, complimentary lunch and transfers to and from your hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and it was a fun-filled day. My only criticism is waiting over 30 minutes for our transfer back to our hotel to depart after we arrived back at the port.

The transfer was nice, but it was over an hour trip in busy traffic to and from the start point. It was an uncomfortable van ride over rough roads. The Jeep tour was 6 people in a very small Jeep over some of the worst road I’ve ever been on. I took 2 aspirin at this point with a very average lunch. The boat ride over was really tightly packed with appx 50 people. We meet some nice people being in such tight quarters. The boat ride to swim spots were packed with other boats and hundreds of other people on boats at each spot doing the same. Watch out for jellyfish if you get in the water. I had really bad headache after it was all over. I thought it was more unpleasant than pleasant. We got a discount of $59 from the $76. Cheap yes. Pleasant no. It will give you a good idea of what Gozo and Camino islands are like. But drink lots of their good wine from the water tank and take some aspirin for the very bumpy ride.

We were collected from our hotel in Gozo by Jeep, our driver Grace was lovely and friendly.

There’s a lot to see in the time so stops are quite limited and some stops were missed out due to road closures. It was rather hair raising at times with the bumpy roads and the general driving in Gozo. The Jeep tour was the best part of the day. No water is provided so make sure you take some with you (we were advised when we booked at the hotel that wine and water was available all day!)

Lunch was included for us and was very nice, it was a self service buffet, wine and tap water was included too.

Then to the boat trip in the afternoon where we stopped in Crystal Bay for the option of swimming for 1 hour, then onto Blue Lagoon for swimming again for 1 hour. These stops were quite frankly dangerous, we were anchored quite a way from the shore and the wake from other boats coming in and out make the sea quite choppy, there were also jelly fish. The stops were also too long and people were getting fed up. This was followed by a very quick sail round Comino before dropping the Malta passengers back to port in Malta and then we went back to Gozo. Whilst on the boat in the afternoon wine and tap water were provided throughout for anyone who wanted it. They also sold “mini boat tours” into the caves for 5 euros per person.

When we docked at Gozo we had to walk down a gangway at the back of the boat and there was a very large jump off at the bottom. Not suitable if you have mobility problems.

Our Jeep driver Grace met us after the boat trip and took us back to the hotel.

Grace and her Husband Martin were excellent and friendly.

To be honest this was very expensive at 80 Euros each and not good value. I would not recommend the boat tour element. Just do the Jeep Tour.

good afternoon, as for the jeep safari, when the roads are closed our drivers pass through other roads and you get to see all the places of interest . this effects all the tours in Gozo and not only ours. ( by jeeps, cars, buses or taxis) as for the boat trip , we give 1 hour each stop so everyone will have enough time for swimming and sunbathing .( most of the people enjoy swimming so much that wont want to leave) .we do not stop close to the shore as it is too dangerous to do so. when it come s nature. very important note is that we do not serve Tap water , we serve natural drinking water which we fill up from our reversois mosis machine. thanks and regards

Tour is advertised as a Jeep tour then a Boat tour. I selected this tour based on this information. Who in their right mind would want to drive around in a non air conditioned Jeep during the hottest part of the day? By switching the boat portion first it was an extremely uncomfortable rest of the day. I considered just taking a cab back after the boat portion as I had no desire to sightsee in the heat of the day. I want to swim during the heat of the day. It also states unlimited water but water was only provided at the end of the boat trip and at lunch. Not during the hot miserable Jeep ride. Seriously how hard is it to have a small cooler of waters in each Jeep. Instead we had to purchase water constantly throughout the Jeep ride at multiple stops. There was also a group on the tour that received special attention. If these guests were so special then why didn’t they charter their own tour? It was also chaotic and unorganized with no tour leader telling the guests where to go. I received a message to look for a green and white coach for pick up. A red and white coach showed up. I stood there looking at it for about 2 minutes before approaching it because it wasn’t green and white and I had no idea it was the pick up for me. After we got off of the coach no one told us to board a boat. So we were all standing around waiting for jeeps or instructions. Finally we just followed people onto a boat, assuming since the person on the boat had our names it must be where we were supposed to go. At the end of the day we were just dropped onto a pier. After the entire day being an absolute cluster “f”, I found the coach and led everyone there. The lunch was a buffet and not my thing but the woman serving the food were kind and efficient. They constantly refilled items never letting anything go empty. They should be running the entire tour!

A thoroughly unpleasant monotonous experience. We were driven around the back streets of Gozo in a small decrepit jeep with restricted views and no commentary or guide to explain where we were going or what there was to see. We stopped briefly only three times and again with no explanation of where we were.
Swimming in the Blue Lagoon and Crystal waters was limited to being next to the boat whilst being mindful of other passing craft.

We were picked up from St Paul’s bay on time.
First part was the trip to the blue lagoon and it was great. The scenery was amazing and swimming there was a lovely experience.
Once we reached Gozo we got in the 4x4 and then the misery started. Allegedly you can see the island this way...not really because the actual tent of the 4x4 is blocking your view and you’ll either have to bow down to see or see through the back opening the other cars. Also most part of the trip is on tracks not roads so you end up feeling sick. There were several stops for 10 minutes to quickly take a picture and we were rushed back into the 4c4s but that’s not sightseeing.
Lastly when we were back in Malta the driver of the mini bus decided to do a friendly race with the driver of the other mini bus. That dangerous idiot nearly killed us because he braked the last moment before a roundabout and most of us started shouting at him.
Avoid!

Dear Sir, I have just seen your review which is very surprising as you say that part of your trip was a visit to Comino. Kindly note that we have not started doing Comino yet and so if as you say you took a tour which included a visit to the island of Comino you must have done it with somebody else. Barbarossa Combi Tour which is half day Jeep and Half day boat trip round Comino does not start before April. So to be double sure, kindly give me your name and the date of your trip. Hope to hear from you soon. You can write me on info@barbarossa-excursions.com Best Regards, Frankie Magro

I took this combination tour to get a chance to swim in Comino and also see Gozo. The day started by waiting over 30 minutes outside waiting for the transport to arrive in St. Julian's. The van was ancient with no a/c and we were packed in like sardines. The van seems like it was at death's door, and lo and behold, it broke down on the road! We were picked up by alternate transport and made it onto the boat. The two stops at the Blue Lagoon and Crystal Lagoon were way too long. There is nothing to do but swim around aimlessly - it isn't really that beautiful and doesn't really have marine life to see and it is very crowded with boats. Once we reached Gozo, we were served lunch - which was an array of the cheapest carbs possible - plain pasta, plain rice, plain bread with a couple of cold cuts. I wasn't expecting a gourmet meal, but I didn't expect them to be so stingy, either. The only part of the tour I enjoyed was the jeep tour with our guide Charlie - he was pretty entertaining and the sites on Gozo were actually pretty cool. The transportation from the ferry dock was completely disorganized and chaotic. We boarded yet another non-air conditioned, ancient van, but this time with nice big windows to let in the sun and heat...the driver did oblige us and left the door of the bus open during the drive (how safe!). We were dripping sweat, and by the time we reached town, I was nowhere near my accommodation, but I made my first possible exit with a bunch of others just to get off that sauna.

I booked this trip from UK for 3 of us when i saw the trip details. Thought it was interesting but it was worst. First they take you to Blue Lagoon and you swim there for 1 hour (60 min), then the take to to Crystal lagoon just 5 min boat ride(the other side of Blue lagoon) and again make you swim for more than 1 hour...... in an gap of less than 10 min you swim , swim and again swim, I paid the entire cost but when were reached crystal lagoon I had to pay EXTRA € 5x3 =€15 for a small boat ride to see the caves. I told the boat driver / manager i had paid everything already but he said he has no idea and if I want to go I have to pay ... You don,t even go near Comino island it is a lie that this trip includes Comino island. After wasting more than 3 hours just swimming in the same water we were dumped in to 4x4 open jeeps and were taken around Gozo in a very very rushed manner .... no English commentary as they promise .. the jeeps take you around Gozo but don't show the important places but take you around some cliffs and caves and you have already seen some cliffs and caves as part of your boar ride. Total waste of time and money. I had booked this trip as a birthday gift to my wife but she did not like it as it was a waste. There is a food but on the boat nothing special but not value for money

I feel sorry for you when you say that you swim for 3 hours in the same water. Where did you want to swim in different water. You swam in Blue Lagoon on Comino and in Crystal Lagoon on Comino and you say that have not been to Comino? The cave trip on Comino island is optional and if you want to do it you have to pay, just 5 euro per person. Other companies charge 20 euro. So I do not know why you are the only one who did not like our trip and your review is the only one negative, unlike all the others who say that they had a great time with us. Wish you all the best.

Yesterday we did the "Combi Tour". We were 3 adults + 1 child (9 years old). To be honest we booked the "Full day 3 island sailing trip" but due to windy weather they changed it.
- They picked us in Sliema. The van was around 25 minutes late because of the traffic.

- We stopped 1 hour in Blue Lagoon, 1 hour in Crystal Lagoon. For 20€ deposit you can use their mask to see the fishes.

- The boat stopped far away for the shore, so if you can't swim I suggest you to get - a life vest.

- For 5€ you can visit the cave with a mini boat. I totally recommend doing it!!!

- After the boat trip to Comino, we went to Gozo where we ate at their restaurant. It was a light buffet (salad, cold pasta/rice, salame, prosciutto, watermelon...)

- The jeep tour was amazing. Our driver/guide was Grace, she was really kind and easy to get along with!!! We had an amazing tour thanks to her!

It suggest the BARBAROSSA COMBI TOUR to everyone!
